Chat Threads

Dear all,

It has come to our attention that the forum is suffering from an overload of chat threads. As you may have noticed, we have made an attempt to deal with this previously and there was some confusion. In an effort to clarify the confusion, and make the changes to the forum that we feel are needed, please find below the new policy regarding chat threads.

1) The following chat threads will be closed. They will be locked at 3pm on Saturday 20th September.

In the Bill section

Billa Crew
Billology III
The Graveyard
14th Mental Hospital
Brother Bill Kindergarden
PAPAJ

In the Tom section

Mental Hospital
PAPATSS!
The Graveyard
TOM kindergarden
Pants Off For Vanity

In the Georg section

Georgville!!

In the Gustav section

GUSTAVISTS!
Gusti kindergarden...

In General Chat

Our Overwhelming Organization of Optimism
PAPAPATH
Smiley Thread
TH Mafia
(Return of) The Cutlery Club!!!!!
The Rainbow Thread!

For the General Chat area, the following threads will remain open:

Blabbermouths
THE KINKY MINXY GIDDY TOKIO GRANNIES CLUB
What's on your mind

These threads will remain open as they are the most active of the chat threads.

2) The three above chat threads will be clearly labelled in the subject line as 'CHAT THREAD' from now on.

3) No one is permitted to make chat threads without a specific topic unless agreed by a moderator. Other threads for discussion will remain open and are encouraged, as long as they stay on topic! (You know, stuff like "Do you have siblings?", "What are your favourite movies?", "Embarrassing things that have happened to you")

4) If you would like to talk one-to-one with someone, please take it to PM, email or instant messaging. The forum is not here to provide for your personal conversations.

5) If any threads not labelled 'chat thread' begin to get off-topic, the moderators will put a stop to it and warnings will be issued. Just don't do it.

6) The webteam are currently working to remove the forum issue of a warning message when a new post has been made in a thread you are replying to. We understand the frustration that can cause at busy times and we are making an effort to remove it.

I think the chat threads are very much a part of what makes the forum the place it is.

And also: some of those threads have been on this forum since Yabbie.

EDIT: Exactly why is this? Is it too hard for the mods to keep up or something? Why is this?

I can understand most of the chat threads in sections for the band members, but the General Chats are kind of where I don't feel very supportive of losing...

The General chat is for offtopicness, and I know we talk alo there. But to be honest all we need to do is say 'Omg he looks good' in the other guys sections. We can't be glued there all the time. So I think thats why we go to different topics where we belong to talk.

The decision made is not up for debate. We will answer questions, but the decision is final. Given the fact that this is the second time this has come up, be assured that it has been discussed fully and decisions were not taken lightly.

There is absolutely no reason to have over 20 threads on this forum that have no real topic and are, essentially, threads for chit chat between members. They clutter up the forum and many are just without any kind of focus. Those kinds of discussions can be done by PM or email.

Furthermore, they are not the kinds of threads that inclusive of new members and they create a cliquey type atmosphere, which is not something that is desirable.

Yes, it is. Off topic from Tokio Hotel. It doesn't mean all the threads in general chat are without a topic and therefore anything goes. It does not. All threads should have a topic so people know what they're getting into, particularly new people who look at subject lines as guidance for what they can post where.

I can get why people will miss their threads, but at the same time I understand the problem. It's so many, and it must be very confusing for new members to go here, since everything is so random.

But like I said, I get what the others mean as well. Maybe there's certain people you really like, that comes to a certain thread. And when that thread closes - what happens then? Which thread will they go to? Will they have anything in common with the people there? Will the same things be discussed the same way? ...
