That's why I almost didn't post the answer.
In one of the Luxembourg interviews Tom mentioned how these days Gold Records don't mean as much as they used to. Still, probably not that many albums get certified, so it's still nice.

Vanessa, when you wrote 7,500 I thought you meant 750000 and missed off two zeros. So they've only sold seven and a half thousand copies?
What's platinum then, I thought platinum was 300,000 so how can gold be 7,500? Unless it's two different scales for different countries

In Malaysia, yes. But remember, Malaysia is a fairly small country, with a population of only 27 million.

Different scales for different countries.

27 millions 7500? Strange...
In Italy you need to sell 30000 to have gold and we are about 60 millions. :-?

Ditto in the UK. It's just that 7,500 is such a small number, even taking into account the small population. :-?

There must be a reason why it's such a low number.
My guesses:
1. As a majority Moslem country, rock music doesn't have much traction?
2. Wikipedia says that illegal downloading is a massive problem, so if an album manages to actually sell 7,500 legal copies, it's a huge achievement?

Not quite. A lot of our local rock bands are Muslim, many of which are much heavier than TH.
Anyway, the boys are still not big here. Their songs don't have lasting power on the radio. Sure, they get requested and played, but then they get taken off after two weeks of airplay.
They have a lot of fans and support here, but they don't translate into album sales, so gold is a fairly respectable achievement.
Congrats, boys! I contributed 4 of the 7,500. :)

Once again, congratulations to the TH guys and also to the Malaysian fans! Awesome job! Although I'm from the Philippines, I was able to contribute 1 sale out of the 7,500 during my short visit there in KL. Then I realized I had to make a purchase back in my home country too, so I bought another one to add to the sales here in the Philippines. We're hoping to bag a GOLD record for the guys here too, if not with the Humanoid album, we're hoping it'll be with the BEST OF album.

I wonder if they're going to go to Malaysia for some kind of ceremony to get their gold records? How does that work?
