View Full Version : OVERVIEW OF THE VENUES *Updated for new tourdates*

I know last time people were asking a lot of questions about what the set up was like and whatnot. I've been to a few of the venues the guys are playing out so I decided to do a breif overview of what I know. (FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS AS WELL) (Gosh, I only know 2 venues on this new tour... I'm so shocked at myself! Gah. I need to do this whole tour and brush up on my venues... ;) hahaha.)
*** FOR ALL VENUES THAT HAVE A 'NO CAMERA POLICY' HERE IS AN IDEA: STICK IT IN YOUR BRA IF YOU HAVE A VOLUPTUOUS BOSOM AND/OR AN EXTREMELY PADDED BRA. IF THE SECURITY CAN'T SEE IT, THEY WON'T FEEL YOUR BOOBS. IF THEY USE A WAND IT WOULD GO OFF ANYWAY BECAUSE OF YOUR UNDERWIRE.If you try this and get caught you'll most likely have to go back to your car and put the camera away. If that happens don't hate me, but I can say that I have successfully done this at least 40+ times. I can also say that I successfully wear a size D sooo... people don't question it. ALSO: MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CAMERA SMARTLY THROUGHOUT THE CONCERT. DON'T USE IT AS A WEAPON IN FRONT OF SECURITY OR TAKE PICTURES OF DAVID JOST WHILE SECURITY IS STANDING NEXT TO YOU. (Although, let's face it, why else would we bring a camera? Mmm, Josty.)
HOUSE OF BLUES: I have never been to the Chi HOB butttt, I enjoy the Cleveland one. It's laid out a little strangely with a downstairs 'pit' and then about 3 steps up to a bar and a raised area and then (I'm pretty sure it was open to public) an upstairs balacony that's fairly small. You can see from pretty much anywhere, my best friend was at the bar and I was in 'pit' area and we both had a great time. The will call is in the doors and immediately to your right. At the concert I was at they allowed us into the waiting area where there was seating and whatnot. I don't know if they will keep you outside or let you in, but usually if they let you in you can hear soundcheck.
*AN IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE HOUSE OF BLUES SHOWS THAT MIGHT BE OF USE TO YOU. Every show I have been to at a House Of Blues venue (whether it be Vegas, Cleveland, Chicago, etc.) has had this so you should give it a shot. IF YOU GO INTO THE HOUSE OF BLUES RESTURANT IF YOU HAVE A SIT DOWN ENTREE MEAL (I think it has to be a certain price) YOU WILL GET LET INTO THE VENUE 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE LINE. (REGARDLESS OF WHEN YOU HAVE THE MEAL YOU WILL GET FRONT ROW.) DOUBLE CHECK ON THIS BEFORE EATING YOUR MEAL. But it can save you a LOT of waiting time. Of course, now that everyone knows this, there will be a mad flee. But, I have a feeling not everyone will read this section and therefore not everyone will know. :)
STARLAND BALLROOM: Starland Ballroom is probably one of my faaavorite venues. It's less than 30 minutes from my house and just a great venue in general! Plus, the bathrooms are SUPER BALLER. I like them. A lot. Anyway! According to the Starland Ballroom site... loitering on their premises is ILLEGAL. Therefore, lining up for this event will not be allowed until 10AM on the DAY OF the show. Anyone arriving before will be penalized. So, for all of you that were planning on sleeping over - think again. You can't line up until 10am on the 7th. It's a little bit hard to find. It's on Journey Mill Road (I believe it's that. Or maybe off of that. It that's wrong I'll correct myself later...) Anyway, I once got lost for 45 minutes trying to find it the first time I drove there. I'm pretty horrible with directions but I'm just warning you... if you're even remotely terrible at directions (like me) it can be a little hard to find. The parking is KOOKY. It's basically a big gravel "parking lot" in front of the venue. There's people usher you in and it's like 3$ for parking. You'll get a few love taps, but nothing that will scrape your car or anything. Just make sure you don't hit a parking attendant. The only bad thing about the lack of parking spots/extreme craziness off the parking is that getting out is a little bit hellish. People just rip roar out there. That's my only issue with Starland Ballroom. Everything else is the bomb.com. There's usually 2 lines - the left for Will Call and the right for people that already have their tickets. You walk in and usually right on your left is the merch table. It's like built in, so it's cute. There's a larrrgeee bar area as soon as you walk in to the left. Usually it's 21+ but, I doubt they'd do that for a Tokio Hotel concert? So they might just leave that area open. Not sure. But yeah, it's up about 3 steps so if it IS open it's a good place for shorter people to go and depending on security you can sometimes manage to sit on the railings. Then there's the floor which holds probably 50% of the venue... but the soundstage is in a pretty tricky location on the floor. THEN on both the left and right sides there's about 5 stairs up to an area where you can eat and sit and stuff. Most likely the show will be sold out and this will be bombarded. A lot of girls like to go up on the left side and make their way to the side-stage-ish area. That's usually where the bands come out from. (Left side of the stage when you're FACING the stage) and usually girls get pretty good pictures/a few hand shakes. Not always the case, but just stating. (But you will be watching the show from like... the side) You're really not supposed to stand on the stairs leading up to that area and if security has to ask you more than once... well, it can get bad. I've seen a few girls get kicked out before. So make sure you listen to what security says. Hm. I just realized how boring this venue is. But yeah, that's about it...

9:30 CLUB: THE FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING I WILL SAY ABOUT THIS VENUE IS FOR THOSE PLANNING TO SLEEP OUTSIDE. THIS VENUE IS NOT IN A GOOD AREA. I REPEAT, IT IS IN A SCARY AREA OF WASHINGTON, DC. And this is coming from a New York City girl. IT IS SCARY. If you're planning on sleeping outside bring sleeping bags, tents, and guns. (Just kidding. But seriously, maybe a small pocket knife... no... actually, just don't sleep outside at all.) DC is hard to navigate through and I hate driving there so I will be the person that drives up on the curb in a fit of rage. The venue is fairly small with, once again a really strange balacony. I met Jesse McCartney on this balacony and no one told me there was a set of stairs that lines the entire top bit, so I fell... horribly... on top of him. But yeah. You can also successfully scale the balacony if you have crazy upper arm strength (I did not do this... I am not that inasne... but I watched it happen and laughed.) Hm, that's all I can remember about the 9:30 CLUB. OH. AND it's an "early show" which is what Jesse's was too. THEY WILL KICK YOU OUT AND THEY WILL KICK YOU OUT FAST. Don't lazy around because with two shows in 1 venue in 1 day, security gets pissy. Fast.
Yeaahh I saw the double-show thing and I got kinda disappointed. I wanted to hang around.
So I guess it would be a good idea for everyone to get their merchandise prior to the show so they don't get kiicked out without the opportunity to get any.

Hm, I don't even remember where the merch was @ the last show I went to there.
I guess it might be better. It will mean not 2+ hours of waiting around outside the doors in the back cos TH will get kicked out fast, lmfao.

I love peeing my pants.
I figure it's better than pooping them.
No, but srsly. It's just a way of showing my excitement.
I don't rly do it. I sort of wish I did and it was appropriate though, just because it'd be awesome if I was talking to Tokio Hotel and just ****** myself and continued talking... I think it'd get the point across well.

That would be hilarious if pants wetting were socially acceptable. Thank goodness it isn't though. haha Fine me at the show and we'll definitely wait by the back door together.

I won't be intoxicated this time because I want Tom to think I'm a sane non-nymphomaniac and I need to drive 3 people back that night anyway. Boo, I hate having to look out for other peoples lives.

Because it's an 'early show' they will be out the doors by 10PM. I actually don't know where the 9:30 club back doors are, but I imagine that they won't be hard to find. Altho, I'm pretty shocked that so many fans found the back doors @ NYC. Fillmore has the most hidden back doors that I know of.
Um, I don't remember 9:30 CLUB having a no camera policy. But someone said the HOB's do, which is why I included that. It should say it on your ticket/the website. Um, I've slept outside the venue before. It was December '02. If you really want to you can, but if you're nervous... I would recommend maybe 8AM somewhere around then. 'Cos doors are early @ 6:00PM.

Yeah, in and out. I'm looking for the 9:30 Club ones now. If I'm correct there's only 2 doors that face the streets so they've gotta come out of a pretty obvious area.
in NYC they were dumb cos security was already standing outside the backdoors. Hopefully they're stupid and do that again. Except, it was annoying cos I knew where the doors were and wasnt going to bring attention to it (cos they're pretty well hidden) but when security did that themselves I was like crap, crap on you. I could've easily been one of 5 standing outside if security hadn't had done that.

BAMBOOZLE:Chances are there will be roughly 30 people at the Tokio Hotel stage and it will be one of the side stages towards the back of the parking lot. Chances are these 30 people will be 25 girls and 5 mothers.
LMFAO ^^ = previous j.bros performances @ bamboozle
&
irving plaza is not big. It's like a
suffocation death trap usually.
but it doesn't really matter since
they don't have any scheduled shows
there. "/ @ least not that I know of.
LMFAO were you @ the JoBro Bamboozle show? Totally was 30 girls and their mothers. + A signing. I hope there's a signing for TH, except, like I said: Saki can't get his rifle on the plane so it's probably not plausible.
I worked @ the JoBro signing and it was the biggest joke of my life. I laughed the whole time. & Then I got my one and only full group picture w/ them... in front of the portapotties. That pictures goes down in history. Of the 205920354 times we'd hung out/I'd worked w/ them we took 1 group picture in front of a portapotty.
Yeah, Irving was awesome to see TH in. It took me 5 minutes to get from the WAY back/bar area to front row on Tom's stage. (Except now it's THE FILLMORE. Blow me. That name sucks. I still call it Irving.)

The Fillmore is also a venue in Philadelphia and New York City. New York City was called Irving Plaza but is now called The Fillmore @ Irving Plaza, I'm not quite sure why... I'm pretty positive there's a Fillmore in Cali too.
Um, I dunno what to tell you about the back doors cos I've never been to that venue. But if it's a stand alone building it'll usually be in the back. If it's like attached to something else, check the side that's exposed to the street. It usually has direct enterance to a street or a parking lot. There might be security there/an Escalade.
Last time they were on stage for about an hour/an hour and fifteen. BUT. That's just how LONG they were on. You can usually estimate the concert to end about 2 to 3 hours after doors are scheduled, because it usually takes about an hour for them to get on stage after doors. That was without an opening act. It seems like they don't do opening acts, so I'd say about an hour. It usually takes about 2 hours for them to come out. They won't always sign, it's not a garuntee, but I'd say it's worth the wait - especially with the show being out around the time of CD release, they don't want to **** any fans off.
I don't really know their travelling arrangements yet. If they have a prevost they will drive from Detriot to IL. If they only have an escalade they will most likely stay in Detriot. I'm not particularly sure - we're going to have to wait for the first show to hear if they have a prevost. I can't imagine that they would, but that'd be pretty legit if they did ;)

The Fillmore in Detroit changed its name a little over a year ago also, from the State Theater to the Fillmore. I have no idea why either.
It would be AMAZING to meet them personally, but unfortunately I'm being accompanied to this concert by my father, {who was AMAZING enough to let me go, thank God, but I'm sure you understand what I'm saying...} and I can't see him be willing to wait a few hours to meet the band for a minute, get a signiture, and possibly a picture. That wouldn't be a very effective management of time. So thanks for the info, but I don't think I'll be able to use it. =[
And personally, although I'd love to hang around a hotel waiting for TH to show up, I can't drive myself, and will probably have to go straight home after the concert because of the aforementioned. And personally, I hope the guys go straight to the {sucky} airport, because Detroit is a pretty scary place. Actually, try terrifying.
Anyway, thanks for replying so quickly! <3

Ugggh, I WISH I could go. Sadly, it's the day of the May SATs. I bet a lot of people won't be able to go cuz of them...just another example of their uselessness and the need to punch their creators in every punch-able area on the human body.

LMAO. OMGGG 2 years ago Bamboozle fell on my SATs too. (Sorry, that made me laugh so hard thinking about how much I hated my life that day.) I totally bounced IMMEDIATELY after SATs and made it. I came to the show in like sweat pants and looking like death. Ohhh, May 5th & SATs... how I hated you both that year.

Yeah, Irving back doors are simple to find. I've met the majority of the bands I've met there, lol. (Did that make sense?) Too bad they're not playing Irving again, cos doors there are easiest.

Yeah, just go in and ask if they uphold the get a meal & get in 10 minutes before the crowd. I'm pretty positive all of them do and that TH's management wouldn't change it. You're spending like an extra 20$ but you're garunteed front row AND you can get there much later than 6am, lol.
Hmm.. well good luck with the camera thing! Mine is pretty slim, so... lol.

Yeah, plus it's cool cos you eat and then they're like, 'come back in 2 hours @ doors' so you can just walk around and do whatever & come back at doors.
But make sure you get back a little early because if a lot of people read this thread they're going to all do it, so you want to be the first of the crowd let in.

Nope, no reservations. It's like a Hard Rock Cafe type of resturant. You just go in and eat your meal and then they'll say, 'Ok we're letting you guys in in 2 hours' and then you can just leave the restaurant and walk around the city or whatever and then you come back in 2 hours and there's a door from the resturant into the venue and you go in the side door and bada bing, you're front row.

I just read your update about the Virgin Megastore...I have to take a train into the city from a suburb so I probably wouldn't get there until the doors open (if it is at 7 like you said) or after unless I convince my parents to let me go in alone even earlier. Do you think this would be a problem?

So far it seems like it wouldn't be a problem because the signing is on a school day (which is quite stupid) I would say you'd AT LEAST be garunteed the 2nd colored wristbands which just ensure the signing, not the performance. I mean, it all depends on how many girls show up.

I know last time for the Fillmore people were asking a lot of questions about what the set up was like and whatnot. I've been to a few of the venues the guys are playing out so I decided to do a breif overview of what I know. (FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS AS WELL)
*** FOR ALL VENUES THAT HAVE A 'NO CAMERA POLICY' HERE IS AN IDEA: STICK IT IN YOUR BRA IF YOU HAVE A VOLUPTUOUS BOSOM AND/OR AN EXTREMELY PADDED BRA.
CONAN O'BRIEN: Tickets for Conan O'Brien tend to be on back order for up to 2 months. Meaning, as of right now it is probably impossible to get tickets for the 9th BUT if you'd like to give it a shot call this number: (212) 664-3056/3057 Monday-Friday from 10 - 5pm. There is also something called Stand-By. BEAR IN MIND YOU MUST BE 16 YEARS OR OLDER WITH AN ID TO ENTER THE STUDIO. If you want to try for tickets I recommend getting to the studio at about 6AM and waiting in line for something called stand-by. About 20 to 25 people are basically given enterance from the street. So, yeah, waiting on stand-by if you're one of the first 20 - 25 is usually a good idea. If you've decided not to try for tickets I recommend waiting outside. I doubt that the band will be garaged (a term for when they are literally taken through the garage so as not to be bombarded) especially with it being so soon after the release of the album, they want all the fan love/publicity they can go. So for that go to 30 Rockfeller Plaza. It will be fairly easy to meet them afterwards, I imagine. It usually is if management isn't being tough. :)
VIRGIN MEGASTORE SIGNING: 1540 Broadway
Level 2
New York, NY 10036
(212) 921-1020
After a number of Megastore signings I can faithfully say that I am most likely the master of Virgin signings. First of all, Virgin is located in Times Sq. From Port Authority you just walk up an ave, make a right and head down until you see Times Sq. Walk a bit further and it'll be right there on your right. *FOR EVERY VIRGIN SIGNING I HAVE BEEN TO I HAVE GOTTEN THERE NO LATER THAN 3AM. The doors to the store open at 7. You walk in, purchase your CDs and recieve wristbands. There are usually TWO colored bands. One to ensure you make it to the performance AND the signing. And the other to ensure that you get into the store and might make it to the signing, depending on when they decide to cut it off. Usually, either which way, they do the entire signing. But, once again, I don't know what management is thinking so I suggest you get there early and get the first wristbands. After getting the wristband you will be escorted BACK outside and get into line AGAIN. You will wait another 10 hours until about 5pm and then you will be let in IN LINE and taken down the 2 escalators to the bottom floor where IN LINE you will watch the performance. You will then make your way down the line to the left and meet the boys who will be sitting down at a table. NO PICTURES WITH THEM. AND USUALLY NO GETTING ANYTHING OTHER THAN YOUR CD SIGNING. *USUALLY* Any questions about the signing feel free to ask me.
But seriously, maybe a small pocket knife... no... actually, just don't sleep outside at all. Also, ignore the man who lives across the street and regularly invites people inside. Not sure if he's still there, but I'll have you know I turned down that enticing offer 3 times in December '02.) DC is hard to navigate through and I hate driving there so I will be the person that drives up on the curb in a fit of rage. Fast. Powerpopp makes a point: BUY YOUR MERCH PRIOR TO THE SHOW BECAUSE IF YOU GET KICKED OUT AND DON'T HAVE MERCH AND CRY ABOUT IT, I WILL SHANK YOU.
BAMBOOZLE: This is probably the event people will have the most questions about. Doors open at 11:30AM (I believe, I could be wrong, once again this is off of the top of my head... so double check that.) There is NO NEED to sleep out for this. Bamboozle is in the parking lot of Continental Arena (Or the Izod if you're one of those new kids...) and it is MASSIVE. There are approx 10 stages with something like 65,000 acts. (That's a joke. Laugh.) TOKIO HOTEL'S STAGE HAS NOT YET BEEN ANNOUNCED. Do not die. There will be a sheet that you can print off with times and stages when the date gets nearer. THIS SHEET ALSO TENDS TO LIE VICIOUSLY ABOUT TIMES. Make sure you continue to check back at their stage to see if they're a few acts behind or running a couple thousand hours ahead. (Which has happened to me and I've missed complete acts of favorite bands. Not fun.) YOU WILL NOT DIE IN THE BAMBOOZLE CROWD. Chances are there will be roughly 30 people at the Tokio Hotel stage and it will be one of the side stages towards the back of the parking lot. Chances are these 30 people will be 25 girls and 5 mothers. I could be exageratting but for 60$ I don't think too many people are going to show up JUST for TH. You also don't need to wait at the stage all day if you don't want to. But, be weary of the fact that most times security gets snippy and makes you get into lines and then you have about 5 minutes passing time between acts. IF THIS IS HAPPENING I SUGGEST YOU STAY IN THE AREA OF THE PARKING LOT WITH TOKIO HOTELS STAGE. Also, sometimes acts are walking around/at other venues watching other acts. I doubt this will happen since Saki can't bring his sniper rifle on the airplane, but still... if it does... I don't know what to tell you other than enjoy.

I've never given anything at a Virgin signing, but I work @ FYE/Jonas signings and they usually accept things. I will give you a warning though: about 75% of the things they recieve are given away. I have tons of jewelry/clothing/candy from Jonas fans that the guys gave to me. If you make it pretty they will usually keep it - most of the time they do go through the stuff depending on how much stuff it is.
So, give it a shot, it's worth it. I'm not sure about Virgin but all the other signings I've been to have been ok with it.

Haha, thank yooou. I'm pretty disappointed that I only know 2 of the venues on this tour. I knew all of them last time. I've gotta keep up. Just means I'll have to go see them at the venues I haven't been to yet, haha ;)
LOL that's such a common question and my answer is: I really don't know. I haven't camped out for any TH shows so I don't know how nuts the fans are. No matter what time you get there chances are there will be at least 10 girls that are there earlier than you. Haha. Try buying the entree. Hopefully a lot of people won't do it/know about it.

Seeing as HOB is a chain I believe they do it at all the HOBs. Call your HoB in Anaheim and ask. If you feel uncomfortable doing it I can for you.
I believe it doesn't matter when that day you buy it... but once again, I've never actually done that. I've been forunate enough to be on line for HOB (the normal line) and have gotten 3rd row anyway.
EVERYONE you're with has to get an entree. (That I know, haha.)

STARLAND BALLROOM: Starland Ballroom is probably one of my faaavorite venues. It's less than 30 minutes from my house and just a great venue in general! Plus, the bathrooms are SUPER BALLER. I like them. A lot. Anyway!
Ok so I got a question usually when you go to concerts at starland at what time do you go? Cause I live about and hour or more from there and want to get a nice view!!!
Do they sell t-shirst or stuff like that?
Could you give some money to the guards so they can put you in first row?
haha well I want to be in first row
Hope you can answer me!!

I'm not a big fan of being frontrow so I usually only get there about an hour before doors. Plus, most of the times I've been to Starland I've been working with the bands there - so I usually just had passes and could go whenever. But, I guess if you really wanted front row I'd say noon would be a good time to get there. Although I've heard that people are planning to do over night. If you decide to overnight it's a good venue to do it because the first hundred or so people (probably more than that, actually) have a massive overhang, a sidewalk AND the line is heated (if it gets cold...) it's pretty awesome.
Uh, you can try paying the security? But I highly doubt that they will put you in front row. That's their perogative though. And the t-shirt thing isn't up to the venue it's up to TH's management... if they're planning on having merch this tour then yes, as soon as you walk in on the left is the merch booth. If you want front row you might have to for-go the merch at first and just hope they still have the shirt you want when the show is over.

Never been to HOB Dallas, but all the HOBs I've been to are general admission standing. Check the ticket - does it say GEN AD STAND ROOM ONLY or something like that? I don't think there's seats.

Hey do you know about the Gothic Theatre in Colorado?
It's ok if you don't.
I have never been to a concert before so I need some info on what to do.

No, I totally don't :( I'm so disappointed @ myself on this tour. I only know 2 of the venues and last time I knew them all. Hahaha. It just means I have to go to ALL this shows on this tour and see ALL the venues I haven't been to.
I can look for info/ask around to see if anyone I know has ever been there though.
