Gustav: The little one with the big mouth!
Gustav have always enjoyed making noise. "In primary school I was the little guy with the big mouth!" The fact that he was so little (today he's 1,68 meters = 3.2808399 feet = 39.3700787 inches) made Gustav aggressive. He had to get rid of all that excessive energy. Maybe that's why Gustav took up the drums. Maybe it was also because his dad liked to fill the house with music - songs with rocklegends such as Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton and Peter Gabriel.
Little Gustav started early to drum under the table. And when he didn't stop his dad took him to the music-school nearby. That's now 12 years ago and Gustav have played since then. He's also tried playing the guitar, "but my hands are too robust for that".
Gustav almost always have a hat on, especially when his hair is a bit longer. He has pretty thick hair that gets really light in the summer. "And big locks if I let it grow". He prefers to dress in jeans and turtlenecks, preferably in white. The 17 year old drummer is very mature when he speaks about himself. He looks straight into the eyes of the one he speaks to, while his hands are busy with whatever is around or just moves across the table restlessly.
Gustav is the "beat" that always sounds, the rhythm-maker in the band - and not just on stage. Gustav drums on everything: the table, on a empty Rad Bull-can, but mostly on himself. He uses stomach, thighs and chest as instruments. A compact, unchangeable beat, always with a joke on the way and rarely in a bad mood. When the others feel down, Gustav cheers them up. Though he's not always as confident as he seems. He was actually supposed to gymnasium after 4th or 6th grade, "but I didn't dare", Gustav confesses. "I was nervous to meet new people, because everybody was looking at me. Because I was a stranger. I was always worried about that". Despite that Gustav isn't shy, on the contrary. He's a very open guy, walks up to people, talks to them and make jokes. Today he's in a economy gymnasium. To begin at the new school wasn't that hard: a friend of his, a girl, began at the same time as he did. In almost 2 years he graduates, despite his success with Tokio Hotel. And what does the people at his school think about his music career? "Most of them thinks it's cool", he says. Of course there are those who aren't that nice, "but I've learned to ignore it if someone yells at me in the schoolyard".
Gustav's life has changed since Tokio Hotel climbed the charts with their hit "Durch den Monsun". He thinks it's remarkable that many has started to get in touch again. "You have to know who your friends are", he says. Gustav's confidants are his best friend Alex and his sister Franziska. Both lives in Magdeburg not far from the house where Gustav lives with his parents. "Franziska is smaller then me, but older - she's 25 tears old", he says. Earlier him and his sister used to bicker. Today she makes potatogratin for him, and gives him advice in love. Unfortunately those hasn't worked. Twice Gustav have been in love, but one already had a boyfriend, and the other lived in another city - and it didn't work out. Right now he's single. He would like to have a girlfriend, but "she must live with that I'm gone all the time". He does share his time between the school and the band, between rehearsals and performances. And he knows what the goal is: "it would be so cool if I could be a studiomusician, even if my biggest dream of course is to forever be with Georg, Bill and Tom and our band...".
He hardly has time for his hobbies: playing soccer, ride his bike and cook. His best dishes are Lasagna and Salmongratin, "but without the Salmon". He's allergic to all fish. And pork. And strawberries. And dust mites. And against all different types of grass and pollen. If Gustav gets too much of those he gets a rash. "I put up with it. Lots of people have zits but look good anyway", he says laughing.
The singer Bill thinks Gustav definitely has the best looking upper body in the band. "There it's a advantage to play the drums". He moves his muscles, tells another joke and everybody laughs.
My movies: I prefer actionmovies like ”Armageddon” and ”Mr & Mrs Smith”. I hate romantic movies.
My rolemodel: Lars Ulrich, drummer of Metallica. I have always liked him and Phil Collins.
My CD:s: I like to listen to ”Saint Anger” by Metallica, Michael Bublé for the calm moments and on Slipknot.
My beverage: Apart from Red Bull I like cocoa. Either really hot or cold. I hate lukewarm milk.
My food: My lasagna tastes the best, or my sisters potatogratin.
