Kk here's a little story for my buddy spammi. I promised her I'd write one of these. =] But this is a different kind of story. For one thing, it's not about Tokio Hotel. BUT, before you click out of this, I would like to say Please give it a try. You just might like it. I hope... Ok here it goes!

Prologue
Ashlyn's POV

Every choice you make will bear a consequence...
My mother's words bore deep into my mind as I lay motionless on my boyfriend's bedroom floor. If only I had made the correct choice, then maybe I wouldn't be in the predicament that I'm in now. I know Cody didn't mean to do what he did. But it happened anyway. I could hear him mumbling something incoherent, something about me being a filthy *****. He was sitting on his bed massaging his temples with his forefingers. I loved Cody and I knew he loved me. But I couldn't understand why he felt the need to pound me til I'm black and blue to get his point across. The squeaking from his bed signifies me that he's getting up and walking over to me. He flips my limp figure over and looks me in the eyes.
"Ashlyn, please understand that I didn't want to do this. It hurts me when you go behind my back. Don't you love me?"
The shearing pain in my ears becomes sharper. I couldn't utter a single word.
"Answer me ******! Do you love me?," he demanded, giving me a quick shake.
"Y..y..yes," I finally utter.
"Good," he says. He holds me upright and cradles me in his arms. He pulls a napkin out of his pocket and begins to gently wipe the blood off of my mouth. "I love you too..forever."

Sorry it's so short you guys but I promise to post more in the morning. Hope you like it spammi.

Ashlyn's POV

I jolted upright in bed at the sound of the "bbrriiinngg" sound of my alarm clock. I slapped the off button and rubbed sleepily at my eyelids. After becoming fully awake, I trudged to the bathroom where I washed my face and brushed my teeth. Goodness, I looked like the ghost of Christmas past. But a little make up could fix that. I went back to my room and searched my closet for the new outfit that I bought over the weekend. I couldn't wait to flaunt my navy blue Ipex halter top and my brand new Tilt Jeans at school. My junior year had started off right. I had finally made the gymnastics team, became part of the "in crowd", and was getting notice by boys who wouldn't have looked twice at me. And I was loving it. I got dressed, went back into my bathroom and began to apply a light coat of mascara to my already thick eyelashes. I was starting on my second eye when I heard my mother call for me from downstairs.
"Ashlyn, you up?"
"Yeah. I'm getting ready," I replied.
My mom was always up in the morning to greet me before I went to school. My dad was usually at work by this time.
After slipping on my light brown Sperry's [sp?], I thundered down the staris into the kitchen.
"Goodmorning honey," came my mother's cheeful voice.
"Morning mom," I said kissing her cheek and grabbing a bagel. I started for the front door out of the house, when my mother called me back.
"Do you want me to drive you to school today, hun?"
"No mom," I said rolling my eyes. "I can drive you know. That's why I got my liscence." I hated it when she went into mom-mode on me.
"Alright, be careful sweety."
Before my mom came up with another way to delay me from driving, I was out of the house and on the road. When I got to school I was greeted by my bff Karina. She came up to me squealing with glee.
"Omgosh. You will never guess what happened this weekend," she squeaked, her red curls bouncing when she did. I rolled my eyes a little thinking that she was gonna tell me about the newest boy she had hooked up with.
"What?", I said
"Well I've heard through the grapevine that Cody, from the soccer team has had his eye on you forever and he wants to ask you out!"
My mouth dropped in complete awe. Cody was one of the most popular guys in school. Never would I have guessed that he would want to talk to me, let alone ask me out.
"No way," I said, pretending not to care. "Cody never said two words to me last year."
"Well this is a new year," Karina declared excitedly, "Whatever you're doing to get his attention, keep doing it."
I laughed at my friends words. It was only the third week of school and I had already landed an almost boyfriend. Karina was also on the gymnastics team with me and I was her co-captain. Gymnastics was what made me more popular this year. I liked being popular and I was determined to hold on to it at all costs.
The sound of the first bell rang and the hallways flooded with kids scrambling to their classrooms.
"I'll talk you later at practice," Karina said to me before sauntering down the hall.
After closing my locker I made it to my first class of the day, English. I sat down in my seat and began the assignment from the textbook. After a couple minutes of busy work, there was a knock at the door. Mr. Duncan, got up from his desk and answered it.
"Well hello there," Mr Duncan said politely.
"Hey," came the uninterested, despondent reply. It sounded like a guys voice that I was familiar with.
"Aha, so your the pupil transferring out of Mrs. Holtz class eh?" Mr Duncan asked the boy at the door.
"Yeah, she couldn't stand that I knew more about subject-verb agreement than she did," the boy said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. It was then that he stepped into the room and I could see his face. It was Devin.
Devin was my best guyfriend in middle school and all the way up to tenth grade. I couldn't really remember why we had stopped being friends. All I remember that it had something to do with me wanting to do gymnastics more than skating at the skate park with him. So after a heated fight, we just stopped talking to one another. Devin came and took the seat next to mine. His curly black hair was covering his eyes, so I couldn't tell if he saw me or not. He was wearing a black Element hoodie and I could see his skateboard in his backpack. So I guess that was still his favorite pastime. He dressed exactly the way anybody would guess a skater would dress, black hoodie, tight straight legged pants, and Emerica skater shoes.
He began the worksheets that Mr. Duncan assigned us. I watched him for a little bit to see if he would look up at me. I really missed being his friend and he was looking cuter than ever with his long hair over his eyes. When he didn't look at me, I opened my mouth to say something, anything to him. But suddenly, he whipped out his earphones and began listening to his Mp3 player.

Kk I have to stop here, but there will be more.

Devin's POV

I could feel Ashlyn's eyes tracing over me. Didn't anyone teach her that it's rude to stare? I couldn't take the pressureof her gaze, so I quickly put my headphones on to distract me. She was "little miss popular" now. She didn't need me any longer. Seemed like she had enough "fake" friends to fill that void. It had really hurt me when she declared us not friends. How could she do that to me? We were friends since the sixth grade. Nothing could have torn us apart. But apparently something did. Oh well, at least one of us was happy.

Ashlyn's POV

The remainder of the day went by rather quickly and before I knew it, gymnastics practice was taking place in the school gym. Karina, Molly, Jojo, Serena, Alice and the rest of the team showed up right on time. Even Molly's bf, Jack had come to watch us practice, and with him was his soccer buddy Cody.
"Look who's here," Karina said, reminding me that Cody was most likely gonna ask me out today. Cody was an average looking guy. Not bad looking, but still just a face in the crowd. He had cleanly cut brown hair, grayish brown eyes, and a semi-muscular physique. He smiled sweetly at me as he walked in, taking a seat on the bleachers with Jack. I smiled back, pushing a lock of my wavy brown hair behind my ear. Without a moments delay, Karina and I began running drills. I was happy because this would be my chance to show off in front of Cody. I began with some simple moves, then I moved onto tumbling. I stepped lightly on the mat, worked up a slow run, becoming faster with every step. Just as I was beginning a somersault, my hand bent itself forward and I ended up falling flat on my back. Some of my team mates gasped while others snickered. Cody was the only one who came to my rescue.
"Are you okay?," he asked, a wide grin across his face.
"Yeah. The floor broke my fall," I laughed humorlessly.
Karina took this moment as her 'cue'. "Mkay everyone. Let's take five," she bellowed, winking at me.
Perfect timing I thought to myself. My pride was hurt and I felt like hiding under a rock. But instead of that, Cody helped me to my feet, while I brushed myself off.
"Do you need some ice for that wrist?"
"Nah. I think I'll survive."
"I thought you might say that. You seem to be pretty.....durable," he finished lamely.
I laughed but only because the expression he made after he spoke. He looked a bit humiliated and confused.
"Cody it's okay," I said smiling warmly. "I may look soft on the outside, but I'm tough as nails inside."
We continued talking like this for the remainder of practice. Cody turned out to be such a sweet guy. He told me that he was an only child, his parents were really wealthy, but they were never there for him. I kind of felt sorry for him. He didn't have a relationship with his own parents. All they did was buy him things to keep him out of their hair. Poor kid.
Karina blew her whistle. "Kay guys that concludes today's practice. See you guys on Wednesday."
I looked at Cody.
"Do you need me to give you a ride home?," he asked
"Nah. I'm good. I have a car."
"Oh," he frowned a bit.
"But maybe I could have your number instead."
Cody's face lit up. "Oh absolutely."
I put Cody's number in my cell and he put mine in his. Everyone filed out of the gym except Karina and me. We both had to put mats away.
"So spill the beans already," she squealed.
"Nothing really great happened. I just got his number."
"OMG, you're so lucky. So many girls would kill to be in your position."
"Lucky me," I said with my palms up, giving Karina a 'whooppee' kind of look.
Karina giggled.

A lil more. It'll get interesting soon.

Ashlyn's POV

I got home at around 5 o'clock that evening. As soon as I walked through the front door, I could smell dinner cooking. The delicious aroma filled my nostrils, making my tummy rumble. I walked past the dining room and into the kitchen where I found my parents in an akward position. My father was kissing my mother's neck while his right hand rested way south of her waist. I loudly cleared my throat. They instantly broke apart from each other and began concentrating on whatever was cooking in the large pot.
"Ashlyn, honey, didn't hear you come in," my mom said, her face flushed.
"Well here I am," I murmured with an eyebrow raised. "What's cooking?"
"Beef stew," my father announced, unbuttoning a couple buttons of his shirt and loosening his tie. He was a lawyer. People said I looked a lot like him. I had his eye shape, his eyelashes, forehead, and ears. My parents were an inter-racial couple, my dad black and my mother white. The traits I inherited from her was her dark brown hair, except hers was straight and mine wavy, her eye color which was honey brown, and her petite body shape. My skin was a coffee and cream color, which was darker than my mother's ivory skin, but lighter than my father's velvety chocolate complexion.
"Dinner will be ready soon, honey," my mother said, smiling as my dad came up behind her and snaked his arms around her waist. I took that as my cue to go to my room. I definitely didn't want to stick around while my parents were getting...intimate.
I climbed the stairs to my room, flinging my backpack and gym bag to the floor when I arrived. My 7-year-old sister, Lynda, was there to greet me. She had been looking through my telescope when I walked in.
"Ashlyn!!," she yelled merrily once she spotted me. She ran to me, curly pig-tails bouncing, and leaped right onto me. We both crashed to the floor in a heap.
"Gawd Lynda. Spaz much?," I said rubbing my injured head.
"I'm not a spaz," Lynda cried, hitting me on the arm. Lynda's two front teeth were just starting to come in, (she had lost the baby one's when she was six) so when she said 'spaz', she said it with a thick lisp.
"Are too."
"Am not."
"Are too."
"AM NOT."
"What are you doing in my room anyway?," I asked not wanting to shout back and forth with Lynda, clearly she'd win.
"I was looking through your telescope to spy on the neighbors," she sang.
"Oh wow Lynda, not only are you a spaz, but you're a lil pervert too."
"Am not."
"Uh yeah."
"Am not," she said wrinkling her brow angrily.
"Hey I think I hear mom and dad calling you," I said, annoyed by now.
Lynda got up to leave my room, but not before slapping me on the head and high-tailing it out of there before I could lay hands on her. I picked myself up off the floor and went to my telescope to see what Lynda had been looking at. (For observational reasons of course)=D.
Apparently she had been really interested in watching our lawn grow, cause that's where the lens was focused.
"Lynda you really are a spaz," I laughed to myself.
I continued looking through my telescope, out of boredom, until something caught my eye. It was Devin. He lived across the street and three houses to the left. I watched intently as he walked down his walkway and over to his family's mailbox. He clutched all of the contents inside the mailbox, looking slowly through the small stack. Devin wasn't wearing his black hoodie anymore, but he had on a white Zoo York shirt with a drawing of the Statue of Liberty on it. As he was looking through the mail, he paused a moment, as if listening for something. Slowly he turned to his right and glanced directly up at me. I jumped a little, not sure if he had caught a glimpse of me. My blinds were down, but cracked slightly so that I could see out but no one should see in.
He can't see me, I thought to myself, not tearing my gaze away from the lens. Devin was still staring, his cyrstal blue eyes focused entirely on the opposite end of my telescope. There was just no possible way he could see me. He was at least 150 ft. away.
The intensity of our stare lasted for another few seconds, neither of us blinking, until it was broken by the sound of my dad's booming voice.
"Ashlyn, dinner's ready!"
His call had startled me. "Okay," I yelled towards my bedroom door. When I lowered my eyes back down to my telescope, Devin was gone.
****, I thought.

Kk so I took a nice break from this story but I finally have an update for those of you care.

Ashlyn's POV

Cody and I kept hanging out at school for the rest of the week. He would eat lunch with me and my friends, walk me to my classroom, and walk me to my car. he would also call me every night just to see how I was and what I was doing. I was really enjoying his company despite all the evil glares I got from the cheerleaders whenever they saw me with Cody.
"What's up with these cheerleader?," I asked Karina on Friday when I was talking to her by my locker. "It's like they're trying to stab me with their eyes."
"They can't stand the fact that you're with Cody and they aren't," Karina replied, applying some lipgloss to her lips. She ran her hands through her red curls and put her compact mirror away.
"Well, I'm not exactly with him," I admitted.
Karina glanced at me. "You mean he hasn't asked you out yet?"
"Nope. So the cheerleaders need to step off. Anyway, isn't it like a rite of passage for the cheerleaders to date the football players?"
"That's what I thought. But you know how greedy the cheerleaders can get. When it's not enough to sleep with football jocks, they'll go after the soccer team."
I giggled at Karina. Since I was relatively new to this "popular" thing, I was glad that Karina was giving me some pointers. She was used to being popular. She had been since freshmen year. I had recently became her bff when we went to gymnastics camp together over the summer. It was before school let out last year that she caught me and Devin doing cartwheels in the gym. We were only messing around but Karina seemed pretty impressed, with me in particular. She had told me that I had potential and that going to a gymnastics camp could really freshen me up. So of course I wanted to go. And I got really good. So when school started back in, she welcomed me to the squad with open arms. She appointed me co-captain which infuriated some of the girls who had bee on the team longer than I had.
But despite all that, I was happy to be somebody that people envied instead of being an outcast loner like I used to be when I was best friends with Devin.
A brief pang of unhappiness filled me when I though about Devin. I know I had crushed him when I destroyed our friendship. I chose the gymnastics camp that summer instead of spending it at the skate park doing ollies with him. I reflect:
The Flashback
"So you're gonna spend your entire summer at some stupid gymnastics camp?" Devin had asked me the day before I left.
"Yeah and it's not stupid," I huffed as I lifted one of my suitcases into my mom's minivan.
Devin eyed me suspiciously. "You haven't done gymnastics since I met you in the sixth grade."
"Yeah, so? I thinks it's time I take it back up again."
"Well what am I s'posed to do for the whole summer? None of the guys at the skate park can skate half as good as you. It's gonna be a bummer skating with a bunch of ametuers."
"I'm sure you'll think of something," I smiled at him, patting his shoulder. "You're a bright kid."
"Oh please," he said, rolling his eyes. "We both know the real reason you're going to this camp."
"Oh yeah and what's that?," I asked, slamming the rear hatch of the minivan.
"Well, I saw the way you reacted when that redhead approached you in gym that day we were doing cartwheels. You were totally bugging out that someone popular complimented you on something."
"Shutup," I scoffed.
"It's true," he continued. "I bet when you come back from this camp, you're gonna be all changed. You'll be walking in that girls shadow."
"Will not," I said getting annoyed.
"Will too," Devin shot back at me. "You get all prissy and stuck up."
"How could you think that? You know me better than that."
"Yeah I know you. It's those preps that i don't trust. But why do want to leave anyway Ashlyn?"
"Why are you pushing this," I asked, feeling both annoyed and offended that Devin was questioning my motives. "You aren't being a supportive friend right now."
"What?" Devin said, looking as if he hadn't done anything wrong.
"You're just getting on my nerves right now," I snapped.
"Well you're making me wanna vomit with all this talk of ditching me for these so-called cool kids."
Within seconds, Devin and I got into it. We were shouting back and forth at each other, slinging insults and telling one another that they were a terrible friend.
The argument ended when I said, "Fine Devin. If that's the way you're gonna be then don't talk to me anymore."
Devin had a hurt look on his face then he just turned and walked away. We had had many arguments like this before, in which we wouldn't speak to each other, but only for a couple hours. Devin had always been the one to break the silence first by calling me or coming over to my house. But as the weeks at camp passed, it was much to my dismay that Devin never called me. I was too scared to call him out of fear that he would hang up in my face. So neither of us called a truce. We had ended our friendship for the stupidest of reasons. Reasons that I wished had never occurred. End Flashback
As I descended back down to reality, I realized that Karina was talking to me, but I was hardly listening to what she was saying. All I could hear was blahblahblah It was then that I saw Devin walking down the hallway. Everything seemed to move in slow motion. It became as if we were the only two in the hallway. He was wearing a t-shirt and jeans, his hands stuffed in his pockets. Just as he was walking past me, he flipped his curly hairout of his eyes. He stole a quick glance at me and our eyes fastened together. I kept watching him even after he had long stopped looking at me.
Then I heard Karina's voice. "Why are you looking at that emo kid like that?"
"He's not emo," I said as I slowly turned from a walking Devin and focusing on Karina again. "He's a skater."
"Like it matters," Karina scoffed. "They all dress alike anyway."
I was about to have some choice words with Karina, when suddenly Cody appeared in front of us.
"Goodmorning ladies," he said happily.
"You're in a good mood," I pointed out.
Cody laughed. "That's cause there's an awesome party at Cameron's house tonight and everybody who's anybody is gonna be there."
Karina and I looked at each other and smiled.
Cody smiled also. "So what do you say ladies? You in?"
"Of course."
"Great," Cody exclaimed. We all heard the first bell ring.
Cody held out his arm to me. "May I escort you to class madam?" he asked in a British accent.
I giggled. "Yes you may my good man."

Enjoy. :D

XD MArianna.
Ok. This will be in Ashlyn's Pov form now on unless I post otherwise. Enjoy.

When lunchtime rolled around, I went through the cafeteria line and ordered a large slice of pepperoni pizza. After finding the table with the jocks, cheerleaders, and gymnastics team, I finallty sat down and took a huge bite of pizza. A lot of the girls stared at me. They were all either eating a salad or having water for lunch.
A dark blonde cheerleader named Becca spoke up. "Hey Ashyln, don't you think you have enough lumps in your ***? That pizza will add at least ten more!"
Some of her cheer friends snickered.
"Oh I'm sorry," I said sarcastically, "but purging to stay thin isn't exactly my style."
I hated Becca. She was so freakin mean and she always tried to rule over all th popular girl. And now she wa getting on my case because of the whole Cody thing.
Becca's eyes widened. "What did you say to me you wannabe fat ***?"
"Oh **** no," I said, rising to my feet. I was ready to jump across the table at her. But lucky for her Cody showed up.
"What's going on here?," Cody asked.
"Uhm, nothing," I began. "I was just telling Becca here that the clinic is just around the corner if she want to get treated for crabs."
A lot of the jock guys laughed loudly while going "Oooh" and "slay mode".
Becca, feeling embarrassed in front of Cody, stormed off, taking her cheerleading posse with her.
"Don't you think that was a but harsh?," Cody asked me.
"Well she started it. She was askng for it."
Cody smiled warmly at me. "I like a girl that can handle herself."
He sat down beside me while I began chatting with Karina.
"So is it okay if I go to your house after school to get ready for tonight?," I asked Karina.
"Sure," she replied excitedly. "Cameron's parties are always hot, so come over and I'll pick you out an outfit that is just as hot."
I laughed at her. Soon the bell rang and we all scurried out of the cafe.
"I'll drive to your house after school," I called to Karina.
"Okay," she answered.
As I was leaving the luchroom, I walked by Devin. Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like he smiled at me.
Was that a smile?, I thought.

Later that day, around 7 pm, while I was at Karina's getting ready, I got a call from my mom.
"Honey be careful, but ahve fun," my mom said.
"Okay mom."
"And if you have any problems, call me and i come right away."
"Okay mom," I said annoyed this time. "I'll be fine."
"Love you honey."
"Love you more," I muttered then hung up.
"So is Cody coming to pick you up?," I heard Karina's muffled voice from her closet.
"No I told him that I'd meet him there."
"Maybe tonight he'll finally ask you out."
"Maybe," I said, while pulling up a pair of pants.
"Oh no you can't wear that," declared Karina. "You have to wear something that wil catch Cody's attention." She rummaged through her closet and pulled out a tiny white skirt.
I gulped. "I can't wear that. It's way too short. I'll look skanky."
"Oh yes you are wearing this," Karina claimed. "You have the perfect legs for it."
Eventually, Karina talked me into wearing the skirt. She wore a skirt too, hers just as short. We spent about 2 hours doing our hair and makeup. Soon we were ready.
"Your car or mine?," Karina asked once we were outside in her driveway.
"Let's take yours," I replied. Karina's Nissan was much more stytlish than my Honda.
Cameron's house wasn't far from my neighborhood. When Karina and I pulled up, we could hear the music blasting. Once we got out, we were greeted by Cameron, our host.
"Ladies, welcome to paradise," Cameron said, faking a Jamaican accent. Cameron was a good looking guy with dark brown hair and grayis brown eyes. he was on the football team.
"Hey Cam. Sup?," Karina called.
We all walked in the house together. A crowd of dancing people was one of the first things I saw. I couldn't see Cody anywhere amongst the dancing students.
"Do you see Cody?," I shouted to Karina.
"No," she yelled back.
"Cody's here," Cameron barked out. "He's over there." Cameron pointed across the room to a Cody that was against the wall while Becca was grinding on him.
"Eww, he's with that sleaze ball," Karina exclaimed.
"Ugh, is he drunk or something?", I grumbled.
"Actually," Cameron began, "They guy is pretty wasted. He and a few of his buddies got their hands on some alcohol befor the party. Want me to go get him for you?"
"Sure," I said, upset that Cody decided to get drunk on the night that I wanted to get asked out.
Cameron interrupted Cody and Becca's grind session. Cody waved at me and walked over to us, while Becca rolled her eyes and sauntered off.
"Hey!," Cody shouted, with a brigth smile on his face.
I could smell the alcohol on his breath but I overlooked that. I was just happy that he was here.
"Hey," I said back.
"Wanna go upstairs and talk?," Cody asked. "I kinda wanna talk to you in private."
"Okay," I agreed, smiling back at Karina.
Cody took my hand and led me upstairs to a vacant bedroom. I sat down beside him on the bed.
"Wow Ashlyn, yuo look amazing."
"Thanks," I said. "It only took me all of 2 hours to get ready for you."
Cody chuckled. "That's what I like about you Ashlyn. You're funny, smart, beautiful...," his voice trailed off. He was looking me deep in the eyes. Before I knew it, we had begun kissing. Cody's lips were soft, but cold. I shivered when he started to slide his hand up my skirt.
"Uhm, Cody wait," I said pulling away from his kiss.
"What? C'mon," he pleaded, rubbing my bare thigh and covering my lips with his icy cold ones.
"No," I said firmly while pushing his hand away and standing to my feet. "Cody you haven't even asked me out. You're moving way too fast for me."
Cody stared blankly at me, not responding.
That made my face heat up in frustration. "Are you even gonna say something?," I asserted.
Cody just looked down.
"Oh gosh," I mumbled, putting a thumb and forefinger on the bridge of my nose. "Cody I bet you don't even like me. You just want to sleep with me right? Wow, you are such a dirtbag!"
I turned on my high heels to leave, but Cody caught my wrist, squeezing it painfully. He swung me around, never releasing my arm, and our eyes clashed together. Cody's eyes didn't look the same. They weren't kind or soft, but menacing and dark.
I whimpered in pain. "Ow. Cody lemme go. You're hurting me."
Cody's eyes burned into mine. "I do like you Ashlyn," he growled, "but I think it is you who dislikes me."
He released me then and I stumbled to the floor. Almost at once, tears began to flow over my face. When I looked up at Cody, he was walking towards me. I scrambled to my feet and ran as fast as those high heels could take me. Tears blinded my sight as I desecended the staris, bumping into people the whole way down.
"Karina," I screamed. Nobody scarecly looked up. I was so ready to leave but I couldn't fin my ride anywhere. I wandered through the party, crying hysterically. No one heard me because of the deafening music. I was tired of searching and I was beginning to panic, so I left the party, high heels in hand and ran home barefoot. I would just have to pick up my car at Karina's place tomorrow.
Thank goodness Cameron's house wasn't far from my neighborhood. It only took me 15 minutes to get home. I didn't go inside right away. I didn't want to worry my parents once they see that tears on my cheeks. Instead, I sat down on the curb, cradling my injured wrist in my hand. Cody's hand print was imprinted on me.
"Jerk," I said aloud.
"Now there's no need for name calling," a voice said.
I whipped my head around to see Devin standing beside me. He had his skateboard in hand.
"Devin...," I whispered stupidly. He came and plopped down next to me.
"Nice night huh?," he asaked.
I just stared at him, dumbfounded that he was now speaking to me. I sniffled a bit.
"Ashlyn, are you crying?," he asked studying my face closely.
Oh great, I thought. I really didn't want to explain what happened between me and Cody, especially to Devin of all people.

Well whadaya know I found the time to do this thing. ^_^

“What’s wrong?” asked a concerned Devin.
“It’s just complicated”, I answered as I wiped the remaining tears from my eyes.
“Fair enough, but is there anything I can do to make you smile at least?”
“You’re already doing it”, I offered, standing to my feet.
Devin furrowed his brow. “What am I doing?”
“Talking to me”, I smiled brightly at him.
Devin chuckled. I turned and headed for my front door.
“Ashlyn?” Devin called.
“Yeah?”
“Are we cool now?”
“Sure, of course”
“Cool”, he said, the “l” of the word hanging on his tongue longer than necessary.
I smiled. “Goodnight skater boy.” And I turned and went inside.

“Cody did what?” Karina yelled into her cell phone. It was Saturday morning and I was telling her about Cody’s incident with me at the party.
“Yes. It’s true and I have the bruises to prove it”, I uttered, trying to hold back tears.
“No way! Cody would never do that to anyone. Period!”
“Are you saying you don’t believe me?”
“Nah. I’m just saying that Cody is one of the nicest, most perfect jocks around. He wouldn’t intentionally put his hands on a girl.”
I sighed. Maybe Karina was right. Maybe it was the booze that made Cody hurt my wrist. Maybe I was over reacting. Cody wouldn’t have hurt me on purpose. Would he?
“So when do you want me to bring you your car?” Karina asked, breaking my train of thought.
“Just stop by today so we can hang out and maybe run through a new routine I came up with. Then I’ll take you back to your house later.”
“Ok Sweet.” Click.
I spent the weekend with Karina. I showed her the bruise. At the same time she was flabbergasted and skeptical. I really didn’t care if she believed me or not anymore. I was just happy that Devin and I were once again on good term with one another. Yay.

When Monday came, I wore a long sleeve shirt to school to cover up the green colored bruise.
“Kinda hot today, ain’t it?” Devin joked in English class.
“Shut up”, I smiled at him.
“Okay class”, rumbled Mr. Duncan’s voice. “I am going to pair you up for your report on The Great Gatsby.”
The entire class moaned. We hated doing group projects.
“Now, now, now”, Mr. Duncan scolded. “You knew this day was coming. So just suck it up and bear it.”
As Mr. Duncan was calling out the pairs of students that would be working together, I glanced over at Devin. He smiled back at me, both of us thinking the same thing. We had a feeling that Mr. Duncan would put us together.
“Amanda and Pete…”, came our teacher’s voice.
Oh gosh, I thought. What if we are paired together?
“Sam and Jane…”
I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“Jerry and Lacey…”
Oh God just kill me now.
“Ashlyn and Devin…”
I sighed the most loudest and exasperated sigh I’ve ever sighed. Great now we really were partners.
“Are you okay?” Devin asked, a chuckle escaping his lips.
“Yeah. Fine.”, I answered quickly, my eyes darting from Devin to Mr. Duncan then to my desk and finally back to Devin.
“Cool”, came Devin’s smooth voice. “Now I’ll actually have a good reason to be back at your house again.”
I laughed. “What makes you think that we’ll be doing the report at my house?”
“It was just a suggestion”
“Okay fine. We’ll meet at my house tonight to discuss what we talk about form The Great Gatsby. Then after that we’ll do our own separate thing. Once that’s done we’ll put our reports together as one.”
“Wait, I have other plans”, Devin said scooting his desk closer to mine. “We need to work together everyday on this. This is why it’s called a partner project.”
I rolled my eyes playfully. “We’ll see.”
The bell rang. I gather my books to leave.
“So we’ll meet everyday?” Devin asked.
“I said we’ll see about that.”
“Is that a yes?”
“It’s a definite maybe. Later Devin.”

At lunch, as I was eating yet another slice of pizza, I heard Cameron talking to me.
“So Ashlyn, I heard you got paired up with that Denver kid for The Great Gatsby project.”
“His name is Devin”, I corrected him.
“Well whatever his name is, he’s a stoner and lowlife, one of those kids that expect you to do all the work. If you want I could get Mr. Duncan to switch so that you’ll be working with me.”
“You aren’t even in my class Cameron. And plus I think I can handle Devin.”
I smiled happily when I said Devin’s name and the whole table looked at me as if I had sprouted horns out of my head. Isn’t high school and its cliques just great?
Suddenly Cody appeared beside me with a huge bouquet of flowers in his hands. His expression said it all. The word “sorry” was practically written all over his face.
“Ashlyn”, he began. Everyone was looking at us by now.
Cody continued, “I just want to tell you how sorry I am for the other night at the party. There’s no excuse for the way I behaved. And I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
The table was silent for a few seconds, Cody and I searching each others faces for either forgiveness or honesty, until Cameron spoke out.
“Oh yeah. That reminds me”, Cameron mentioned. “Why did you leave the party so early Ash?”
I thought a minute about how Karina was the only one I had told about Cody’s clash of arms with me. I didn’t want to go spreading Cody’s, well MY business with everyone.
“Um”, I stammered, trying to think of a cool lie.
“Don’t worry about it Cameron”, Cody cut in, failing to hide the acid in his tone.
When Cody turned back to me, he had the same sincere look in his eyes as he did when he first came up to me.
“So whadaya say Ash? Do you forgive me or do I need to beg some more?” Cody poked out his bottom lip and began to whimper like an injured puppy.
I giggled. “Okay okay. You’re forgiven”, I said as I took the beautiful flowers he bought me.
“Oh and one more thing”, Cody piped up, taking off his soccer jacket. “Will you be my girlfriend?”
The whole table began whistling and clapping, cheering me on to say yes. That is, everyone except the cheerleaders who daggers in their eyes. The moment was so perfect that I couldn’t say no.
“Yes”, I squealed.
Cody smiled, draping his soccer jacket over my shoulders. He sat down next to me and planted a soft kiss on my lips.
I beamed.
