Interview With Boogie in Denmark

Video (with danish subs): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfbmGyMlGK4

Bill: The most difficult is choosing the songs out. We’ve written a lot of songs and took us time. The most difficult thing is to pick out songs to the disc. Which 14, it is in the meantime 14 songs, should be on the disc? Which of them would deserved to be included on the disc? With the “automatic” we have a good feeling. We thought the song would be good as the first on the disc. It is a good entry to the music world our disc consists of.

Tom: A song is never enough to understand the entire disc. If we could we would send out ten songs as singles. so people who like … we have so many facets. You can hear all sorts of different influences in our songs. Our album may not sound too monotonous.

* automatic *

Bill: It was very exciting to make the video. We flew to South Africa and it took five days to record the video. I looked forward to hearing the song when I was driving. Most people also think the song fits well. It has at least something to do with cars. It was cold during the sessions. We had not expected. We had heard that there were tigers, giraffes, and very hot. But it was cold. We recorded in the desert …

Tom: the sun shining ..

Bill: It looks hot. There seemed to be good weather, but we had to have jackets on. But it was fun to record the video.

* automatic *

Bill: We did not try to get it to sound a certain way. It came along the way, while we recorded. There is something more electro in it. It sounds like Tokio Hotel. You can certainly hear that it is us. But we have also tested new things, because we finally had the time to write new songs. We have long been on tour with the old songs, because we later made the English disc. I recorded “monsoon” the first time when I was 14 years old. And we had the song on the tour last year. Therefore, it was weird to finally write new songs. To see in which direction we wanted to go with our music. On the new album, we’re playing not only on guitar, bass and drums, but we have tried to create a whole new sound universe. We have experimented with all the technical possibilities that we have.

Tom: I think it sounds a little ridiculous when bands release a new disc and says: “Now we have become more mature.” Bill’s voice has obviously been a bit deeper, therefore sounds “automatic” a little different, but basically we have made the music we want to create.

not that we kno of lol.
i say it because of the notes he can hit in the new songs they're really high and without proper trainin you can end up with a cyst on your throat so its good to have some coachin and its easier for the singer to hit the notes without straining your vocal cords :P

love, alex.

I believe so too. It would have been such a waste of time not getting lessons when he finally had some time. We all know Bill hasn't been the most technical and "voice-friendliest" singer and that might be one reason for his previous vocal cords problems. I couldn't understand if he hasn't taken some lessons. Eventually we will see it when they start touring, but I think he sounded better than before in Köln.

But those high notes.... I believe he'll never going to reach them live. His voice just can't do those anymore and in a future it'll be more and more difficult as his voice keeps changing and getting lower. I like them, but I wonder why they decided to use such a high notes on album when it's impossible for Bill to sing even close to them live?

i think its because Bill always wants to sound the best even if just in the album. but yes thats the first thing i noticed when i heard automatic, his voice is wayyyy better. hope that he takes them it will benefit him all the better and it only takes like 2 minutes to do a voice exercise *wink*

I've noticed that his voice sounds a lot better than it did which is pretty cool :] Yeah it would've been a waste if he hadn't gotten singing lessons. He should quit smoking though, that does horrible things to your voice.

I have heard that some musicians smoke in order to get a certain rasp in their singing voice

but yeah for professional & personal reasons..bill should stop smoking

yet he's a grown man and knows the risks

Yeah smoking isn't great for the voice at all. I'm in a musical in high school and since I have to sing, I stopped smoking cause it was too hard to sing.

I think it's stupid to smoke to get a raspy voice :/

And I think he's probably only a social smoker, but still smoking isn't good, it makes you wrinkly, right? Tell Bill that, I think he'd never touch a cigarette again :P

lol. we ALL kno Bill would never want wrinkles! i heard Tom stopped smoking so maybe Bill will quit too.

On another note: i did notice that Bill's voice was deeper in Automatic, but it was still good. I really liked their old style better than their current. I mean the new style is good but its just not what I had expected. i know they were going for a different sound and i think they got it now. Automatic sounds like techno/dance music but tokio-hotel-ified. I cant wait to hear the rest of the album!

Must've been this month then since I saw pics of him taken in August smoking.

he's had vocal training before?

Yes he has. I read it somewhere. But even ppl who's had extensive training all their lives have had that operation:

* Davey Havok, lead singer of AFI
* Luciano Pavarotti
* Natalie Imbruglia
* Whitney Houston
* Bette Midler
* Justin Timberlake
* Omarion, formerly of boy-band B2K
* Goo Goo Dolls' lead singer Johnny Rzeznik
* Everclear lead singer Art Alexakis,
* Bert McCracken, vocalist of The Used
* Joss Stone
* Roughton Reynolds from Enter Shikari
* Angela Gossow, the lead vocalist of Arch Enemy
* Billy Lunn (Morgan) lead singer of the subways
* Canadian rock artist Matthew Good
* Annette Strean of Venus Hum
* Lisa Origliasso from the Veronicas

OMG I KNEW IT!! For some reason, every time I think of that kind of surgery, she always pops into my head.
