Bill and Tom from Tokio Hotel: No time for a girlfriend
Hamburg (OTS) - "I will not lay down and want to have fun as much as possible," said Tom Kaulitz from the band Tokio Hotel in an exclusive interview in the new GALA (EVT): October 1. "There are just to many beautiful girls running around" Even his twin brother Bill is single, "I want to love. And that has simply not happened up to now." Very open the brothers talk to Gala about their past experiences with drugs: "There were even times that we have been drinking a lot and out of boredom smoked pot and smashed pills," says Tom.

The drug confession of Tokio Hotel twins Bill & Tom
"Drank a lot, smoked pot and smashed pills“
They shouldn't be taken as role models! The Tokio Hotel Twins confess: "There were times, where it happened, that we drank a lot, smoked pot and smashed some pills out of boredom" says guitarist Tom Kaulitz in an interview with his brother Bill.
The 20-year-ols revealed to the the magazine "Gala": "Even we experimented with that kind of stuff and we started relatively early." At the 13 the Magdeburger boys received drugs and alcohol from older friends.
Singer Bill Kaulitz accentuates that those nebulous experiences are in the past now: "It's all in the past now!" On the other hand brother Tom describes their life, as it is now, like this: "We party very rarely, but when we party then it gets pretty wild!“
That such statements cannot be taken as a mission statement for underaged fans doesn't impress the twins particularly. According to Bill and Tom the band doesn't have a target group: "15 year old can listen to Tokio Hotel as well as a 40 year old mom."
And according to Tom he doesn't even take love seriously: „ I don't want to settle down and I want to have as much fun as possible.“.

Yes I remember them saying in an interview that they've never done drugs and are completely against them :O
I don't even know why they tried with the smoking thing. It's like Paris Hilton denying that she has a sex tape out, there's evidence and EVERYONE knows about it.
There are reasons why they had to like mostly for their image I guess, and especially when they were younger. But it still sucks that you can't always trust everything that they say.

That's right, you can't believe everything you hear.
These boys are not angels; far from it. and it's not surprising to hear Tom and maybe the others, have tried drugs. When your environment consists of certain things. The temptation is always there to experiment.

haha yeah I know they aren't no angels but I was still hoping they weren't some stupid drug snorting rock band, and I really thought they didn't seem like they would do THAT especially since they have stated before that they wouldn't. like seriously this news is quite disappointing and unsettling. they better not drink a lot and "get bored" and try any other things that could potentially harm them. drugs are not a good thing and have caused lots of problems for many, many members in bands.

Hmm... This will be interesting. Disappointed? A bit, yes. Surprised? Not at all.
Only thing that I am surprised at is that they open their mouth suddenly about it? I can't see the point of it.
I think that TH is so much a prisoner of their own reputation and that reputation comes from Durch Den Monsun -times. I don't how it goes there in US, but here in Europe they are often seen as same band what they were 3-4 years ago. And they are stuck to the situation where they are growing up, but actually not allowed to grow up. I don't support any kind substance abuse, but they've in show business, have been on countless of celebrity parties etc. for so long and many times that their "purity" in a way many see them is not likely to exist anymore. But the image of their innocent nteenage years is so strong and (I'm sorry to say this) part of their public image that they need to stick to it. It is sad and I don't like to hear something like that, but I don't know, if I'm shocked about it either.

haha I'm not surprised at all! They're smokers and I'd say that most smokers have tried pot at least once. It's like one thing leads the other... pretty common.
However, I'm very dissapointed, especially at the pill thing. I really hope it's over. Also, they love to drink, it's obvious. (which is something very common in Germany & Europe).

For what I know smoking pot has a bit different culture in US and Europe. In Scandinavia t's not that common (last researches says that app. 13% of people between 15-69 have tried/used pot at some point of their life in Finland) and I've understood that in US the rate is higher than that? Also I've understood that people use stronger weed in Europe (higher THC-dose) , but not so often. Middle-Europe is something between Scandinavia and US, I think. Of course there are places like Amsterdam or Spain with their own drug cultures what comes to pot, but in general I've understood that in Europe it's not that common than in US (although people here use it as well, of cource). I wouldn't say that most of the smokers have tried, because statistics says otherwise.
And it's true that alcohol is more common here. In Germany they drink quite a lot and they can do it in relative young age ( was it at the age of 16?), so drinking at the age of 13 is actually pretty common here. Not all of course, but many people do their first alcohol experimentations on age 13-15.
I don't know if I want to know too much about their drug using or other kind of abuse, I'm happier when I'm not aware of the details even if it does exist. As long as they can keep their head straight!

Well, I respect their honesty. You know alot of musicians would do whatever they could to cover up drug use and things. I think that was very wise for them to admit to such things, and also clear up the fact they no longer do such things. Hearing this could help some other teenagers who are addressing these issues.
We all make mistakes, but we move on from them. So I guess that's all that matters at the end of the day.

I want to put some useless two cents in. Useless cause everyone has pretty much said everything. :p
I just hope they don't think it's a fun pasttime and end up in some rehab, with their reputation and career in smokes. I may sound like I'm eggaterating (**** sp) but we all know how easy it is in showbiz to amuse yourself that way and get into deep **** with drugs.
We all make mistakes. I do get that. It's done now. I just hope they don't continue this. It's all I have to be concerned about.

I'm not surprised or dissapointed by this at all. To each their own! If they wanna drink, smoke pot and snort pills, thats their personal decision to make and who am I to judge what kind of people they are from that? They are smart guys and they have alot of people around them looking out for them, so if any of that ever became a problem I'm sure it would attended to for the sake of their careers and personal health. For now, its just for fun.

Judging as people and being concerned of them are different things...
That's true.
Also they are human, NOT ALL, but a lot of people have tried drugs, drinking, or smoking at some point in their life... It is to be expected. In the kind of life they have the chances of them having experimented is higher...which is normal. No one said they were saints....I think that they may be done with the drugs phase because if they weren't they'd would not have admitted to having done them. Most stars won't admit to having tried them because they still do them.
I even tried and experimented with stuff when I was younger, and a few things much stronger than pot and pills. But I stopped at age 21....I hadn't touched them since..and don't want to....so, it is possible the boys have decided it isn't for them as well.
I am glad they admitted to it, makes them more humanized to me. but things they have done in their past or have tried does not make me love them any less.

I've noticed that many people consider their experimentation or use to be "mistakes." Maybe the guys don't consider that period in their life to be a mistake but rather an experience.
Not everyone who engages in illicit activity views it as being a negative mark in their life
.... I am neither disappointed nor upset that they have "used"
It would be a completely different story if they ended up in rehab because their drug use was cutting into other facets of their life causing them to shut down...or they were stealing from family&friends to support their habit....clearly they have a good head on their shoulders

It's not like this is all coming from left field here. I'm sure we all expected something like this (I certainly did) and it's pretty normal that they'd lie about it too. The smashing pills thing was weird and kinda stupid but...if they wanna do it, let 'em. It's not like they still do it (so they say) but it's stupid to trust a band completely anyway.
Take everything with a grain of salt, otherwise you'll be disappointed and shocked/outraged at some of the things you'll learn later on.
Every teenager wants to try that stuff, and a lot of them do. I respect the fact that they can admit it now, but I do want to know why now? Maybe it's cuz they're revealing their true selves with this album; they're doing the music they wanna in the style they wanna, so they're gonna show us more of who they are, or at least who they were.

Why is it that the word "girlfriend" is always deemed most impirtant
http://tokiohotelnetwork.com/full-interview-about-tom-bills-drug-use/
link to the whole interview
Is there still no time for a girlfriend in your life?
Bill: No, because I want to love. But it just didn’t happen yet.
Tom: And I don’t want to settle down, I want to have as much fun as possible. There are too many beautiful girls out there. But maybe it’s also because I’ve never been in love before.
The question was "Is there still NO time"
Bill said "No"
That means "Yes, there is time now"
The statement after the 'no' helps to clarify that too.

1. Such a convtroversial topic creates media hype. Gets people talking. the band is about to release their most anticipated album to date. the more attention on the twins the better.
2. Tokio Hotel has been called a teenie band for too long. It's time that image dies. A drug scandal is the perfect tool to use in order to get rid of that image. Now, i'm waiting for a sex scandal! Lol!!!!
3. Many people assume TH is a band that reaches to an audience consisting mainly of females from 12-18. yes, that was the truth in the past and towards 2008. But, that has all changed. and just as Tom said in the new article, "we aren't targeting our music to a special audience. A 15 year old can listen to "Tokio Hotel" as well as a 40 year old mother, as long as they have a good taste in music!"
Tokoi Hotel has no age-barrier. Young and old can relate to drug experimentation.
So, those the are the reasons why i think this confession came out.

I'm not gonna lie, I felt my heart shrink a little when I first read this, but as I kept reading you guys' comments it started loosening up again.
To me it's a little sad to find out about this, not because I thought they'd never do it, but because drugs can be so terrible and you just don't want to think about someone you appreciate doing something that could harm them, especially when they're so young.
However, whether it was to get the teenie band label off or not, I'm glad they confessed to this, one because them talking about it kind of shows they're over it, besides that they stated they don't do it anymore, since most people who are in drugs won't admit to having a problem. and two, because it humanizes them and shows their strength of character. It takes real men (or women, whichever the case) to talk about something like this.
Like everyone else I just hope they make smarter decisions in the future, but even if they didn't, I think it's stupid to hold anything against them for their own actions.

Like everyone else I just hope they make smarter decisions in the future, but even if they didn't, I think it's stupid to hold anything against them for their own actions.
i agree 100%

3. "we aren't targeting our music to a special audience. A 15 year old can listen to "Tokio Hotel" as well as a 40 year old mother, as long as they have a good taste in music!"
[/I] Tokoi Hotel has no age-barrier. Young and old can relate to drug experimentation.
I wonder if he is referring to that 40 something year old mother that was in the Habbo US chat with us??? If so, that is sweet...I dunno when this interview took place, so it may not have been done after the Habbo US chat..if it was before the chat, then I apologize

I agree with you pretty much. It's not the end of the world of anything and truth is that smoking pot (now or in a past) doesn't kill them. I think it's more like the way they decided to announce it and the fact that all of this is always gnawing a little about their reliability. Of course it's show business and of course their job is not to babble about everything of their personal life, but I still (in a naiive way) want to trust people and when it's shook by all these little things it feels a little bad for a while.
edit. AND my opinion is that in any case it is professional to use substancies only on their FREE TIME and not when working. Just opinion in general, not saying they are doing it or have done it.

yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not a fan of contradictions, and I'm one to trust what people say, (but of course I can tell when they're being funny or using sarcasm lol) but obviously when it comes to show business one's gotta take everything with a grain of salt, because you never know what they say for themselves, and what they're being told to say.
I give them props for honesty, though, and for not claiming to be anything they're not. If they were going around preaching what they don't practice, then we'd be in trouble lol.
love, alex.

okay, just the fact that it's drugs is not ****ing cool to me. I've had a friend die of drug abuse, cuz she "experimented" once and she got addicted (don't know how lmfao, she already was when I met her I just didn't know.) so I want absoloutly ****ing nothing to do with drugs or people that do them.
but, I was expecting at least something like this. alcohol addiction, drugs, whatever, I had a feeling one of these days it would come up. so I'm not as shocked. course it was once apparantly and they stopped... but one, they said they lie. who knows Bill probably gets stoned like the China wall every weekend lmfao.
I just hope they're smart enough not to do it again....

uuuuh... what? not very cool... haha I'm sorry. sexy points went down. haha
yeah, I'm shocked...seeing footage of when they were younger, like 12, I wouldn't think they would've done drugs or whatever. I mean I didn't think they'd have time since they were a struggling band then.
Their perspective on narcotics is waaay different then mine, I'm afraid of drugs and pot, it gets me depressed just thinking about it. I'm fine with alcohol (more than fine :D) but drugs can really mess you up in ways alcohol couldn't
I don't like that they used to do (or still do...) drugs, but it's their decision and they're fine today...They're still the same TH we love :geek:

Trying stuff growing up is normal. I don´t think they´re gonna sell less albums because they tried drugs at 13. Since they were 15 they have said several times they are against drugs and only use alcohol. Considering all the hoopla when Tom was drunk at a aftershowparty at 16, legal age to drink beer which can make you drunk, and all the parents were upset and he had to go on TV and appologize which was ridiculous, of course they´re not gonna say they tested it. This just shows that they are normal and were normal kids before all the fame came.

"As much fun as possible"
Even if they don't take drugs anymore: Bill and Tom Kaulitz from "Tokio Hotel" still love to party
A target group? "We don't have one! A 15 year old can listen to Tokio Hotel as well like a 40 year old mother", Bill and Tom Kaulitz, Singer and guitarist of the, at the moment, worldwide most successful german Teenie-Band, Tokio Hotel, accentuate. The best conditions to sell their new album. With Gala the twins spoke about colorful pills, the dark side of fame - and hair...
How much do you feel the pressure of success?
Bill: It's there. But we're successful since almost 5 years. The fate, to end as an one-hit-wonder doesn't threaten us anymore. It's relaxing.
But your fanbase consists of Teenagers. And they're turning their back on something very quickly...
Tom: Our aim is to keep the Fans that we have. And we succeeced in doing so. Furthermore we aren't targeting our music to a special audience. A 15 year old can listen to "Tokio Hotel" as well as a 40 year old mother, as long as they have a good taste in music!
Bill, after a few weeks you changed your hairstyle...
Bill: ...and it's annoying that everytime I do something, people are making a big fuss about it. I like to experiment and I didn't like the dreadlocks anmyore. It took them almost a day to dry, after washing them. Super annoying!
Tom: Hair is a quirk of Bill. If I would not interfere, he would have dyed his hair platinum blonde and cut it army-style...
Are you scared that someday you won't be able to whithstand the pressure of the Showbiz anymore?
Bill: The danger is present and I can comprehend those wicked "falls" of other Stars. But Tom and I have a decisive advantage: We have us and the band. When I imagine, that I would have to stand all of this alone, then I wouldn't know if I could come out of this without some permanent damage to myself and where I would be today...
What experiences do you have with drugs?
Tom: Even we experimented and started with it at a very young age. Already at age 13 we had older friends with whom we hung out. There were some times where we drank a lot, smoked pot and smashed some pills out of boredom.
Bill: But it's in the past now! You need a lot of self-discipline to put 100% in your performance on stage and to not collapse under all this stress.
Tom: We party very rarely, but when we do then it get's pretty wild!
You're twins. Are you really that close to each other?
Bill: I would never get the idea to plan something without Tom. We're never seperated longer than two days. And even this is **** for me. We're like one person, we don't even need to talk to each other to know what the other is thinking right now. Tom and I will live together our whole life.
Tell us the truth: Sometimes even you get on your nerves, not?
Bill: Sure, it happens - but very rarely. When we fight, then we do it right: We swear and scream at each other. Then they all run for cover and leave the room. We know exactly which buttons we have to push, so that the situation escalates.
Tom: That's right, we irritate each other so much, until we want to punch the other in the face. And also do it.
"Tokio Hotel" is loved and hated: How do you handle hostility?
Tom: When somebody insults me, I insult him too. I get provoked easily. It was always like this, we never fit in - that's why a lot of people didn't like us. Already at school Bill and I had girlfriends which were older than us. I had a new one every day and Bill tried monogamy. It provokes other guys and makes them jealous. And I love it!
Bill, everybody always claims that you're gay...
Bill: I had to deal with this topic already permanently at school. Make-Up and a complex hairstyle on a boy - sure that a lot of people jump to conclusions. But hey, I'm not gay and if I were then I wouldn't have a problem to admit it...
Is there still no time for a girlfriend in your life?
Bill: No, because I want to love. But it just didn't happen yet.
Tom: And I don't want to settle down, I want to have as much fun as possible. There are too many beautiful girls out there. But maybe it's also because I've never been in love before.
What's the most annoying thing that comes with your celebrity status?
Bill: I'm missing spontaneity. I can't just simply go out to the cinema or to eat some ice-cream. Everything has to be planned for weeks. A life according to script. Sure, you get used to it after some time. But there are still some moments where I miss my former, completely normal, life.
Tom: There are few times, where we can just hang out a whole week. The business is constantly on the run. That's why, even when we're on vacation, we never let our thoughts drift away. Bill and I spent 2 weeks on the maledives and it was cool to laze on the beach. But in my head I was still thinking permanently about work. There isn't a day where we don't deal with "Tokio Hotel".
Bill: All in all, it's still completely ok like this. "Tokio Hotel" isn't a job, it's our life. And indeed a **** wicked life.

I remember hearing about that. I thought it was pretty lame that he had to apologize for legally enjoying a party.
I don't get the big flail over this whole thing at all. They were young. They did stuff. Now they say they don't. So...maybe they got it out of their systems? There's an idea.
Yeah, I'm not saying 'woo, drugs are the bestest thing ever and EVERYONE should take as many as they can get their hands on AND make sure to do it as young as possible!' because, no, that's dumb. But I'm not going to clutch my pearls and faint in horror that a pair of bored teenagers tried something, something that their 'older friends' had. Have none of us heard of peer pressure? Considering that the twins have said many many MANY times that they didn't fit in in their hometown at all, I can see them EASILY caving to something that might make them fit in a little better, even if it isn't the brightest thing in the world to do.
Everyone has done stupid shiz when they were younger, so what's the big?

Loitsche=Boredom
Once you are no longer a little kid a town like that (and I grew up in a town almost exactly like Loitsche) there is not a f*cking thing to do and you know there never will be. Drug use is rampant in small little towns like that. I'd have been shocked if they hadn't tried anything.
I worry that they may get into trouble with drugs because it is an occupational hazard for Rock Stars. Someone is always offering them something in order to get to be friends with them. This is nothing to worry about to me, however. It was years ago and they've been over-achievers+++ since then. That doesn't point to heavy drug abuse!

Yeah, but you also have to take into consideration that they had an image to hold up. They were teenagers when they said those things and had a large following of teenagers who can be easily influenced. They most likely said that because they 1. didn't want to be a bad influence on their fans and 2. they didn't need flack from the tabloids about their drug use.
Put yourself in their shoes, if you had done drugs as a young teenager and then became famous, would you admit to it if you were asked? I would have done exactly what they had, I wouldn't have said anything about my drug use.

i sort of had a feeling they already did drugs... ah well... kids do stupid things... they make mistakes... we all make mistakes... just some of our mistakes are bigger than others. Just as long as they continue to not do it anymore...
Yeah I kind of suspected that they had done drugs in the past although I was a bit surprised they had said that they had done them. Now that I think about it, I don't really think ti's that big of a deal that they drank and smoked pot, but I think the pill snorting is pretty dangerous. I wonder if they did it more than once, I've tired it and it burns like ****.
I wonder what they do when they party.... they seem fun to party with :D

I'm sooo not a party person. If anyone told me to come up and party I'd give them my look, the look that can kill. I'm very good at it, years of practising it on dad.
I dunno I just don't enjoy so many crowds and I have this paranoia that everyone is staring at me or talking about me or something. I'm a tad of a sociophobe. Meh.
Anyway, carry on.

of course, he drinks. we all know that. but, on his part, he never said what he did in the past has stayed there. all he really said is that he doesn't go to parties very often nowadays.

But parties are so fun! Not like parties at people's houses, though those can be fun, I mean like going to clubs and stuff. That's fun :]

Woah, true... you mean like Tom never said that he hasn't stopped doing drugs or something? He has looked blazed sometimes, not saying that he's still smoking pot but still... and it's something some people do when they party hard, and he did say that he parties hard.
But I'm NOT saying that they still do drugs.

These boys are not angels; far from it. and it's not surprising to hear Tom and maybe the others, have tried drugs. When your environment consists of certain things. The temptation is always there to experiment.
yes exactly I sort of had an idea about the pot thing, lol Tom looked a little high in some old pics and some new ones too.

I know! Sometimes Tom's eyes look glazed over and like he's out of it. Bill probably isn't high because he talks so much that we'd notice, but then there's Tom... hahaha
I know! I know kids that come to school high, or smoke pot before exams so they'll be less stressed out and you can't be too sure that they're high or not, they just look tired.

I must have passed by your quote and didn't see it but I have to agree with you there. It is the individuals perception and experience that makes it a mistake or not. I hate drugs...but to be honest I the only years of my life I ever did anything like that I was 13 and 14. I don't look back on it and think of myself as bad or that I was horrible. I was a young kid and I screwed up. I was just LUCKY that it didn't turn into anything more. For some it does and they continue to have a problem for years. I have friends that have been to rehab when we were 17! I also know more then 1 person who never gave it up (but they weren't smoking pot) and they are dead now from overdosing,1 on alcohol! I also don't say,how cool was I. I just shake my had and say,**** you were dumb but I was 13-14 7th and 8th grade!
