Chapter 1 - Phones Can Do More Than Just Call People

“Well crap.” I whispered to myself. I received a poke in the rib.
“What’s up?” a voice whispered to me.
“My phone is gone!” I hissed back.
“I’ll call it.”
“It’s on silent. It must’ve slipped out of my pocket during the tour!”
“How could you let it out of your sight?”
“You know how I get. Besides, just because you’re addicted to your cell phone like nothing else doesn’t mean I’m the same way!” the voice snorted at me.
“That’s for sure. You’re so absent-minded, Amy.”
“What should I do? I don’t want to disturb everyone else…” I fiddled with a piece of my wheat-blonde hair, my sea-blue eyes glancing up at the tour guide nervously every now and then.
“Just sneak away. I’ll cover for you; and, if anyone asks, you’re looking for the bathroom.” I beamed at my sister.
“Maggie, you’re a doll!” I hugged her quickly. She rolled her dark brown eyes and smiled lightly.
“Yeah, yeah, I know. But you owe me big time for this one.”
As our group rounded a corner, I quickly dashed into an adjoining hallway and waited for the voices to fade before poking my head out and dashing back the way we had come.
--
I should probably explain to you who I am. My name is Amy Jadin, and I live in New York City, in the United States of America. I just turned 18 a month ago, and I have absolutely no idea what to do with my life. I’m pretty tall, and have some healthy weight on me.
I love to sing. It’s pretty much my life. And it was exactly how I wound up in this situation. You see, I’m on an around the world trip with my big sister, (Maggie dearest), as a high school graduation present, and due to my begging, she brought us to one of the largest and oldest concert halls in Germany.
--
So anyway, I sped down the hallway, trying to retrace my steps back to the main hall where we had started. But due to my horrible memory and lack of directional skills. I got myself lost.
‘I knew I should’ve taken a map!’ I mentally screamed at myself, as I turned yet another corner. Suddenly, I came upon a door marked ‘Main’.
“This must be it!” I whispered, internally patting myself on the back. I quietly opened the door and walked into the adjoining area. It was a gigantic hall with a rainbow of stained glass for a ceiling, polished hard wood balconies, and enormous stage, and thousands of red velvet seats.
‘I must be in the main concert hall.’ I thought, as my feet let me wander through the rows of seats that were once filled with people. My eye caught a glint of light and I looked over at the stage more closely. All this different band equipment was set up. Drums, racks of basses and guitars, a piano, and a microphone on a stand. The cogs of my mind started turning.
‘No one’s around… no, I can’t… but it’s been so long… he would want me to… would he? I just don’t know anymore…’ I mentally battled with my feelings. Finally, I gave in to desire and hurried up the steps onto the stage. I walked up to the mic and was momentarily wowed by the amount of seats in front of me. This had to be scary.
Making sure it was turned off, I leaned into the mic and pretended to be an announcer.
“And now performing, the award-winning Amy Jadin!” I bowed a few times and waved at the pretend audience. Then I walked over to the piano and hesitantly put my fingers down on the ivory keys. They were so smooth and cool, and I got that familiar itch. Just once wouldn’t hurt, right? I slid down onto the seat, rolled up the sleeves of my sweatshirt, took a deep breath and began to play carefully. After a moment, my voice accompanied it.

It’s so sad, what we have become
Beautiful days, we seem to leave so undone
And I don’t know, where we will go from here
All I know, is that I can’t see, see the sun
Through the sky from here
Oh, Oh
Everyone has a finger
But they can’t point me to the light
It can’t be that hard to find
After all, we’re so bright
I don’t’ know if tomorrow has a day
I don’t’ know if the rays will shine my way
All I know, is that I’m standing in a place where
My future, looks like the skies of L.A.
Skies of L.A.
mm-hm
Skies of L.A.
I took a deep breath and kept playing, a smile creeping onto my face as I started the second verse.
I don’t know, if my body can take much more
Hey, we’re in the line of richest riches
But my mind seems so poor
Yeah
Everyone has a finger
But they can’t point me to the light
It shouldn’t be that hard to find
After all, we’re so bright
I see so many visions
But everyone seems out of sight
This total neglection of life
Skies of L.A.
My future looks like the skies of L.A.
mm-hm
oh
oo
mm-mm
As I played the last note, I heard someone behind me, clapping. I whirled around, horrified for two reasons. One, he had heard me playing. Two, I would probably get in huge trouble for using this equipment without asking. The mysterious clapper was a boy, about my age, with long dark hair hidden underneath a hat, and a tall, lean build.

hey fellow fans, I've been thinking about doing this for a while, and voila! here it is. This will have a little bit of everything in it, but it's not gonna be one of those "they're dating by the second chapter" fics. It'll probably be more realistic than that, and you'll see that Amy is far from perfect. Thanks for reading!

Chapter 2 – Ready, Set, RUN!

That was all I bother to see before standing up and speeding away.
Or, at least attempting to. You see, I’m not the most graceful person in the world. So when I neared the edge of the stage, I turned around to see if the boy was following me. I think he was shouting at me, because he had his hand outstretched and his mouth was moving. But I’m not quite sure because at that moment, I miscalculated my steps and missed the stairs, successfully falling off the stage.
Luckily and unluckily for me, I landed in a strong pair of arms. Opening my eyes, I found that another boy had caught me. He had brown hair that reached his shoulders, but I was out of his arms and had hit the ground running before anything could be said.
Going back the way I came (my mind apparently works better when I’m nervous, as I magically knew the way) and traveling a bit further, I found Maggie and the group listening to the history of something which, yet again, no one cared about. She eyed me as I bent down, out of breath.
“Did you find it?” she whispered, and I blinked for a minute. Then I remembered what I had been after in the first place.
“****!” I cursed. “I forgot all about that.” Maggie just rolled her eyes.
“We’ll go to the lost and found after the tour. It’s probably there.”
“Yeah.” I said, standing up. “You’re probably right.”

-Meanwhile…-

“Hey Bill, Whatcha got there?” A tall male with dreadlocks walked up to his little brother.
“It’s someone’s phone. I found it in the front hall, and I wanted to ask that girl if it was hers, but she ran away when she saw me.” he replied, looking down at the red Razr in his hand. He flipped it open to find a picture of the blonde girl he had just seen, and another, older-looking girl with shoulder length, curly brown hair. They were both smiling, and Bill found that the blonde girl had intoxicating eyes that reminded him of the ocean.
“Yeah, that girl was weird. Most people run towards us when they see us. What was her problem anyway?” The dread-locked boy snorted. Bill rolled his eyes.
“She was probably just startled, Tom. She didn’t look like she had expected, or wanted, anyone to hear her.”
“Whatever. Come on, we better get going.” Tom began to walk away. Bill looked down at the phone one more time before stuffing it in the pocket of his jacket.
“Yeah.” he said, running to catch up with his brother. “You’re probably right.”
--
After the tour, Maggie and I headed back to the front hall to ask if anyone had brought my phone to the front desk. The answer was a very straightforward and blunt, no.
“What are we gonna do, Maggie? I didn’t lock my phone. Any creep could open it up and know all my friend’s numbers!” I sat down on the large stone steps outside the concert hall, distressed.
“Don’t worry, Amy. Everything will be alright.” She assured me and sat down next to me.
Suddenly, a loud scream pierced the air behind us. I could only understand some of it (with my not-exactly fluent German) but there were two distinct words that I could understand-
“TOKIO HOTEL!!!” several girls screamed, and rushed out of my line of sight. Maggie and I both turned around to see a group attempting to mob a few boys coming out of the concert hall, with a larger man standing in front of them, pushing the girls back. My mouth dropped open. The boy standing in the front was the Bill Kaulitz, lead singer of Tokio Hotel. Looking closer, I realized to my horror that he was also the boy who had heard me singing.
“Hey, don’t you like them?” Maggie asked me, unfazed by all the chaos. I rolled my eyes at her for once. She was such an older sister.
“Yeah, I have their CD back home. I never thought I’d actually see them.” I said, staring openly at them. Bill had sunglasses and a hat on, and was smiling at the group in front of him. Then his gaze wandered past the security guard and, coincidentally, landed on me.
Our eyes locked. His smile faded for a moment, then grew larger than before. I could feel the blood burning in my cheeks as I tried to glare at him, but it wasn’t working. Wow, his smile is even more gorgeous in person. If I wasn’t already sitting down, it would’ve made my knees weak.
After a moment, Bill broke our gaze to get into a limousine with the rest of the band. I sighed in relief as they drove away, and turned to Maggie. Luckily, she hadn’t seemed to notice what had happened between Bill and I, and seemed to be thinking. A smirk was slowly working it’s way onto her face.
“Uh oh.” I said. “I know that smirk. What have you got planned?”
“I’ve figure out how to get your phone back. It’s ridiculously simple; I’m surprised we didn’t think of it before.”
“What?”
“We’re going to call it and see who has it.”
--
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!! You totally MADE these last few days for me, so I'm updating sooner than I usually would. Yes, I know this is kind of a sucky cliffhanger, but it will make more sense in the next chapter. And yes, Amy is a retard and didn't want anyone (not even BILL friggin' KAULITZ) to hear her sing. The reason for that will come later. Ja <3

Chapter 3- The Call

“I told you already, my phone is on silent!” I reminded her.
“That’s just it. If we call it and someone has it, they’re likely to pick up to see if it’s the person who owns it. If no one picks up, it’s probably still back inside, and we know to go look for it.” She said, standing up and stretching.
“Maggie, this is stupid. What if it’s some rapist or something? I can always get another phone!” I protested as she began walking down the street to our hotel.
“Nonsense! You paid good money for that phone, and I’ll not be having you spend a fortune on a new one.” She said, her tone adamant. “And that’s that.” I sighed as I followed her away from the concert hall. When my sister put her mind to something, no one could stop her.
When we finally reached our suite in the hotel, I collapsed on the couch. Hey, ten whole blocks isn’t fun to walk no matter what kind of shoes you’re wearing (mine happened to be my black Chuck Taylor high-tops) and I was beat. But I knew that Maggie wasn’t going to just let this go, so I untied my shoes, threw them in the closet, and walked into the bedroom that we shared.
She was sitting on one of the two beds in the room, her dark brown eyes glued to her orange Envy like there was nothing else in the world. She was probably texting Kevin, her fiancée from back home. Maggie was 28, and one of the most successful lawyers in the Big Apple. If anyone had a legal problem, they went to Maggie Jadin about it.
“Alright MJ, are we seriously gonna do this?” I asked, using the nickname I had given her when I got hooked on Spider-Man comics for a while back in the fifth grade. She smirked at me as I joined her on her bed.
“You bet your little skinny-jeaned butt we are, AJ.” She used the nickname she had given me. I rolled my eyes, but smiled a little. It was nice to spend girl time with Maggie after all the time we had lost.
She turned back to her phone and hit the number 5 on her speed dial, which was me. I just sat there, nervously fiddling with my hair.
“Okay, it’s ringing.” She giggled, pushing it into my hands. I looked at her in shock.
“WHAT?!” I hissed, putting the phone up to my ear. Good, it was still ringing.
“You have to talk. It’s your phone!”
“It was your idea!”
“AJ, if you don’t learn to take charge and deal with confrontation, you’ll miss out on so much in life. I was going to teach you this anyway, and this is the perfect way to start!” she gave me an encouraging smile. “Besides, I’ll be here to help you every step of the way!” I gave her an icy glare, telling her that I didn’t buy it.
Suddenly, the phone clicked, signaling someone on the other end had picked up.

-Three Minutes Earlier, Somewhere Across Town-

Bill had been looking at the phone again, trying to find who the owner was. There were pictures of dozens of other people, but he didn’t see that blonde girl from the background in any of them, making him kind of sad. He really wanted to see her eyes in a better picture.
“Still have that thing, Bill?” Tom asked, sitting next to his brother on the couch in their suite.
“Yeah. I should’ve given to the lost and found, but I put it in my pocket and forgot.” All of a sudden, Tom got an evil looking smirk on his face.
“We should prank call people!” Bill gave him a look.
“No, Tom. This is someone else’s phone- their life. I’m not going to screw it up just because you feel like being immature.” Tom stuck out his tongue at his little brother.
“You’re no fun! And you’re supposed to be the younger, crazier one!”
“I’m only younger physically. Mentally, I surpassed you long ago.”
“Did not!”
“Did too!”
“Did not!”
“Did too!”
“Chill out, guys.” Gustav said as he and Georg entered the room. The former headed for the kitchenette, while the latter collapsed into a nearby armchair.
“Hey Bill, is the phone glowing?” Georg asked as he stared at the small device in Bill’s hands. The singer quickly looked at it, and found the caller ID read “Maggie”.
“What do I do?” He hissed at the band.
“Answer it! Maybe it’s the owner.” Gustav called from the kitchenette, where he was constructing a sandwich for himself. Bill still looked reluctant.
“Think of it this way.” Tom said, smirking in a devilish manor. “If you don’t answer it, I will. Which would you prefer?” Bill glared at him before putting his feet up on the coffee table, flipping open the phone and setting it against his ear.
“Hello?”
--
I took a deep breath. It was a man… and his voice sounded oddly familiar.
“Who is this?” I asked, trying not to let my voice shake.
“Well, who is this?” the voice asked. I scowled. I was not about to allow some cell-phone bandit get snippy with me.
“This is Amy, the owner of the phone you’re using. Who are you?”
“This is… Bill.” The man paused between words, making me doubt he was telling the truth.
“Well, Bill, may I ask you why you are now in possession of my cell phone?”
“I found it today at the concert hall.”
“Why didn’t you turn it in to the lost and found?”
“I stuck it in my pocket and forgot about it.”
“A likely story.” I whispered to myself.
“What?”
“Nothing. Do you intend to return it to me?” the familiarity of his voice was getting to me, but I just couldn’t place it…
“I would like to, if possible. Can we set up a meeting place for me to give it back?”
“Yes. Somewhere…public.” ‘With witnesses.’
“How about the fountain down the road from the concert hall? I’ll meet you there, say… 5 o’clock? I’ll be wearing a checkered hat.”
“Alright, I’ll see you then.” I was about to hang up when Maggie grabbed the phone.
“AND IF YOU TRY TO RAPE MY BABY SISTER I’LL KICK YOUR SORRY *** ALL THE WAY TO THE CZECH REPUBLIC!!!!!!!! GOT THAT EINSTEIN? GOOD!!!!!!!!” She slammed the phone shut as I cradled my head in my hands.
“You’re so embarrassing.”
“That’s what I’m here for, love.”
--
“It’s a date then.” Bill smirked as he flipped the phone closed, and went to get ready.

Chapter 4 – The Meeting

“Amy, you’ve got to change out of those baggy clothes before you go to meet this guy!” Maggie insisted. I gaped at her.
“WHAT?! You just said this guy is probably a rapist!”
“Yeah, but maybe he’s a hot rapist! Be ready for anything; that’s what I always say!” She ran to my suitcase and started throwing clothes out onto the bed. I just watched in shock as my entire wardrobe was draped out in front of me. Maggie looked at it disapprovingly.
“This is all you’ve got?” She asked, checking the empty suitcase again to make sure she hadn’t missed anything cute I might own. “Amy, these are completely unacceptable! They’re all grandma clothes!” She picked up a handful of my baggy t-shirts distastefully. I glared at her.
“No they’re not! And some of those were gifts, so don’t try anything.” She let go of my t-shirts, understanding the double meaning behind my words. Rooting through my clothing again, she picked up the most fitted shirt she could find and threw it at me. It was dark blue a white cloud on it, and a little mint green tree growing out of the cloud. At the bottom, it said in mint green letters “Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.” I put it on, and she put a white studded belt in my hands before walking over to the closet, where she had put her shoe collection.
“At least now you’ll look somewhat presentable. I’ll lend you my white stilettos to finish it off.” I stiffened.
“No stilettos.” She turned around, a pout on her face.
“But they would totally compliment that outfit!”
“I hate high heels. And what if I have to run away from this guy? I would rather be comfortable if it comes to that. Remember what you always say; be ready for anything.” I smirked at her expression; using her own logic against her was something I took great pleasure in doing. He face twisted into a scowl.
“Fine, you can wear your stupid converse.” I smiled and slipped them on, grabbed my jean jacket, and we went on our way
--
“So you’re meeting her by the fountain?” Tom asked his twin, who was checking his makeup in the bathroom mirror.
“Yeah.”
“Do you know if she’s hot?” Bill rolled his eyes.
“No Tomi, I do not know if she’s hot or not.” The dread locked boy stood up from where he had been sitting on his bed in the hotel room.
“Then it’s settled- I’m coming with you.”
“WHAT?! When did we settle that?!”
“Just a second ago. You really expect me to just sit at home while my dear little brother goes to meet my future sister-in-law?”
“I’m not marrying her! I’m just returning her phone!” Bill argued. Tom shook his head.
“You don’t know that she isn’t the one for you. And if she is, I wanna be there to see it.” The younger boy put his head in his hands before sighing and grabbing his checkered hat off the bed, and a pair of sunglasses off the nearby table. Plopping it down over his hair (which, sadly, was not poofy) he and his twin made their way out the door.
“Besides, this is probably the only way you’ll ever get laid.”
“HEY!”
--
At 4:55, I was standing by the fountain, waiting for this mystery man to show up with my phone. Maggie was texting again.
“So how’s Kevin?” I asked, anxiously trying to make the time pass faster.
“He’s good. He says he’s a wreck without me, though.” A small smile crept onto her face. Those two were hopelessly in love, and I was happy for them. Kevin had been the brother of one of Maggie’s frequent clients (seriously, the woman sued people over just about EVERYTHING) and because the two saw each other so much, he asked her out on a date. One thing led to another, and after two years of dating, he proposed. She accepted and they’re as happy as a pair of clams.
‘I’ve got a weird feeling about today.’ I thought and looked up. The sky was cloudy, with no sun shining. I absolutely adored it.
‘It’s going to rain.’ The thought calmed me. I loved the rain. Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I let out a tiny shriek and whirled around, ready to slap the person, when I found that it was Maggie.
“Amy, look.” She was pointing to a pair of men walking around. They seemed to be looking for someone or something. And one of them was wearing a checkered hat.
Swallowing, I walked towards them. The one in the hat turned and I could clearly see his face. I stopped cold.
Oh. My. God. It was Bill Kaulitz. Bill Kaulitz had my phone. With him. At this time. And I called him a rapist. I’m so embarrassed. I think I’m going to sink into the floor now. I’ll call you in a century. Or two. Or three.
He walked forward, a smile plastered to his face. I took a deep breath and went to meet him.
“Hi.” He said when I got there. He stuck out his hand.
“Hello.” I responded, shaking his hand.
“Hey.” The figure next to him said. It was Tom Kaulitz, in the flesh.
“Whatup?” Maggie said, coming up from behind me. “I’m Maggie Jadin.” She stuck out her hand, and Tom shook it, then Bill. “And this is my strange little sister, Amy.”
“I’m Tom Kaulitz, and this is my weird little brother, Bill.” Tom smiled.
“HEY!” Bill and I both yelled, glaring at our siblings. Maggie laughed, and Tom joined in. I turned to Bill.
“So you’re the one who has my phone?” I asked. He smiled, and I almost melted.
“I think so. A red Razr phone?” He took it out of his pocket, and I sighed in relief.
“Danke.” I took the phone and flipped it open. I was surprised to find that instead of a picture of Maggie and I, there was a picture of a scowling Georg with pigtails. I looked at the German singer, and he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
“We had some… fun with the phone, while we had it. Sorry.”
“This is disturbing. On so many levels.” I shivered a little, still looking at the picture, and Bill laughed. “How’d you get him to do it?”
“We tied him to a chair, of course.”
“Huh. What Tokio Hotel REALLY does backstage. I never would’ve guessed.”
“So you’re familiar with the band?”
“Of course. I have your CD back home, and I saw you at the concert hall today. I just decided to preserve my pride and NOT join in with the insane fangirls.”
“And you’re not freaking out now.”
“Well, I figure that you guys are just like regular people, and like your privacy at points. Besides, if fangirls came and swarmed you, I probably would never have gotten my phone back.” We laughed a little at this.
“Hey, do you want to get something to eat? I know a great place right near here.” He asked, and I thought for a minute.
“Why not?” I turned to my sister, who was deep in discussion with Tom.
“Mags, we’re gonna go get some food.” She checked her watch.
“Alright, but be back at the hotel room by seven or I will assume you have been kidnapped and call the police. I have to go anyway- I promised Kevin that I would call him.”
“Boyfriend?” Tom asked, a frown on his face. She laughed, then smirked.
“Fiancée. You’re cute, Tom, but I’m a little old for you. Toodles.” She patted his cheek in a motherly fashion before turning around and walking away, black leather boots clicking against the pavement.
“Darn. And I was so close, too.” Tom mumbled. I laughed.
“You thought so, didn’t you?” He gave me a strange look. “Not only is Maggie 28, she’s also a lawyer. She’s always in total control of the situation, meaning that even if you were the greatest flirt in the world, you could flirt with her until your lips fell off and wouldn’t get anything unless she decided to give you some. That’s what makes her one of the best lawyers New York City has to offer.” Bill and Tom gave me incredulous looks.
“That’s just scary.” Bill said.
“You should see her in the court room.”

Chapter 5 – A Day Out

“Now weren’t we going to go somewhere?” I asked, and Bill’s face brightened.
“Yeah, Tomi, I want to take Amy to that café we went to that one time. That’s around here, isn’t it?” Tom looked around.
“I think so. Let’s start walking. Here, put on your sunglasses.” He handed his little brother a pair of sunglasses, and we headed away from the fountain. We didn’t really talk, for fear of alerting someone to the twin’s presence, but at some points, Bill would randomly grab my hand and direct me towards something he wanted me to see, and then he would smile at me. Never in a million years could I have thought that one day I would be walking to get dinner with the lead singer and guitarist of such a famous band. I could only hope that Bill felt the same strange calmness that I did.
--
Bill was in a fabulous mood. He was walking along with his brother and a beautiful girl to go eat some great food.
He had only been slightly surprised when he had first seen the blonde girl from the concert hall waiting by the fountain, and was excited by the chance to see her eyes again. She looked shocked to see him, then embarrassed. He hoped that she wouldn’t go insane over him, but she just treated him like a normal person. At first he thought she hadn’t heard of the band. Then when she mentioned it and didn’t absolutely flip out, he was even more intrigued.
A few times on the way to the café, he had wanted to show her parts of Germany that you wouldn’t find in any tour book. She had mentioned that her sister was from New York City, and he figured that she was too. So he had grabbed her warm hand and given it a slight squeeze, alerting her, then pointed to something. He had loved watching her eyes light up when she saw something new, and a wide grin would spread across both their faces.

Little did either teen know that Tom was watching all of this with growing interest.
‘Well well, little brother, I underestimated you. Maybe there’s hope for you yet.’

When we reached the café, we took a booth near the back and the boys took off their sunglasses. I looked around, a smile plastered onto my face. The place was absolutely adorable, with stained glass windows and couches and armchairs to lounge on. The whole place just had a very warm and comfortable feel to it. I instantly loved it.
“What’s this place called?” I asked, not being able to read the German name on the sign outside.
“Peaches and Cream. It’s because they specialize in desert here.” Bill explained. Tom was staring at me. I frowned.
“What?” He smiled.
“You’ve been with us for fifteen whole minutes, and have not squealed or screamed yet.”
“Or asked for concert tickets, or backstage passes, or our phone numbers, or to have our children.” Bill added. I shrugged.
“I guess I’m just not that kind of girl. I’m enjoying your company, and I don’t want to scare you away or anything.” I looked past them towards the front of the café. “Speaking of which, waitress alert.” A springy looking redhead was bouncing toward us, and the boys quickly put their sunglasses on.
She didn’t seem to notice anything out of the ordinary as she spoke quickly in German. Bill and I ordered an iced coffee, while Tom ordered chocolate cheesecake.
“So were you that girl in the concert hall yesterday?” The elder Kaulitz twin asked bluntly. Bill hit his forehead with his hand. I blushed.
“Excuse me?”
“Tom, you’re an idiot.” Bill mumbled, probably wanting to sink into the floor. It was such a strange way to see him, I actually started to giggle. Both of them looked at me with confusion.
“What’s so funny?” Tom asked, and I shook my head, trying to stifle my laughter.
“It’s nothing.”
“No, really.”
“Well,” I finally relented, letting my laughter die off, “Bill looking embarrassed isn’t something you see in the everyday teen magazine. You guys are always so perfectly made up all the time- sometimes it’s hard to remember that you guys are human too. You have times where you feel embarrassed, or sad, or scared, just like the rest of us.” I said, then thanked the waitress as she brought our food. The boys were staring at me with wide eyes and dropped jaws. I frowned.
“What?” Bill was the first to speak.
“That… that was…”
“Was that too rude? Oh, I’m sorry, I probably shouldn’t assume things-” I tried to apologize, but Bill waved his hand at me.
“No, that was wonderful.” He beamed. He had taken off his sunglasses, and his dark eyes sparkled with delight. “I’ve never heard anything like that from someone before. It’s… amazing.” I was blushing like mad now, and turned my head away. Internally, I was just happy that he was happy. His smile was contagious.
Tom was leafing through the desert pamphlet on the table for what seemed like the millionth time, probably attempting at giving us some privacy. I checked the time- whoah, an hour had already passed? Crazy how time flies when you’re spending it with German rock stars.
We quickly finished our food and paid, chatting quietly about nothing in particular as we walked along the streets. I laughed a little at how odd a trio we must seen. Two German rockers wanted by millions of girls around the world walking along with a random girl from New York. … weird.
I have to say, one of the coolest things about Germany is that mostly everyone is tall. I’m unnaturally tall for my age (at least, by American terms, 5”10 is tall) but Bill and Tom each still had a good inch or two over me. It was actually really nice to be looking up at someone instead of down on them for once.
They volunteered to walk me to my hotel, and Bill pointed out more sights as we went. Strangely enough, Tom seemed deep in thought the entire time, and didn’t say much.
“And here we are.” The singer said when we finally got there. We had been quiet the last few blocks, and I hoped they didn’t think I was too boring. I approached the doors, and turned back to them.
“Thanks for everything, guys. It’s been fun. Good luck with your music, and stuff.” I said, then started to go in.
“Amy!” Bill called, and I stopped, turning around. He looked nervous, another expression I’d never seen on him. “Do you… Do you want to come to our concert on Thursday night?”
“Sorry guys, Maggie wants to save our money, and-” I was stopped when Bill laughed.
“No, no. You can come for free, as our special guests.” He looked down and shuffled his feet a little before adding. “And maybe you could come backstage and hang out with us too.”
“We could introduce you to the guys.” Tom offered. I smiled and mentally laughed at how Bill looked like he was asking the most popular girl in school out on a date.
“I’ll ask Maggie, but no guarantees.” I said with a smile and a shake of my head. Bill seemed to brighten, and I think Tom let out a breath of relief.
“Night, boys.” I went inside, hearing a faint, “Goodnight!” come from outside.
Keeping a straight face, I grabbed an empty elevator and watched the doors close quietly. When the elevator was off the ground, I cupped my hand over my mouth and screamed a little. This day had been totally unreal. And awesome. And fun. And-
‘Beautiful.’ I thought, flashes of Bill’s face flitting through my head. Him being embarrassed, seeming shy and nervous, smiling, laughing-
‘Okay, Amy. Enough already. You sound like a school kid with a crush.’ I took a deep breath. ‘Besides, he probably didn’t mean that thing about the concert. Just looking good in front of a fan.’ I stepped out of the elevator and walked to the door of our room. Slipping my keycard in and grasping the handle, I had one last grim thought.
‘Remember- you’re not special. You’re nothing. A nobody. And you always will be.’
