Sydney stared into the lake beneath her dangling feet as hard as she could. It was easier that way, avoiding eye contact with the passers-by, because they always stared a bit too long. She was used to it, after two years alone anyone would be, but it didn't change the way it made her feel on the inside. She felt raw, mussed, and miserable. There was no other way to describe it. A few birds splashed there way into the water a few yards off, but she neither flinched nor looked up. People chattered as they wandered past. She did not turn.
Wrapping her arms around herself, she pulled her knees up to her chin. It was nearing fall, a time that she dreaded. There had been less and less of a way of income of late, and she had no shoes. Someone had stolen them as she slept on a bench in the park, and she had been padding around on bleeding bare feet now for about a month. Her tattered T-shirt that read "I love NY" in faded letters on the front did not do much to keep her any warmer, and the fact that she was wearing leggings did not help the cause either. It had been an easy summer, thank God, in Berlin, and she had taken advantage of the warmer months.
It was on of those days where people saw right through her. She stood and made her way across the wooden bridge unnoticed by passersby. There was not much for her to do then. She could work, but she hated her boss, he made her do things she did not like, even though she was just the dishwasher, he forced himself on her on one too many occasions. She constantly slept fitfully, dreaming of the suffocation and the taste of bile she felt when she was near him.
Fear swept through her heart and she tucked her chin, her eyes fixed on the pavement, burning with tears. She had never been this way before, in fact, she was from a wealthy family. Her parents had died in an auto accident on her sixteenth birthday, and she was horrified to find they had no written testimony of where she would go in case of their passing. Talk of the foster system began and she had run off into the night, never to look back.
Sydney's stomach began to remind her of the long two days it had been since she had last been able to fill it. She began to consider actually showing up in the hel1 hole she called a job, when she suddenly slammed into something and was knocked to the ground. She had been speed walking and so the blow was harder than it might have been. She took a surprised breath and winced. Her elbow had hit the ground hard and when she put her hand on it, she pulled back and found blood.
Looking up, she found herself looking up at a concerned-looking boy about her age. He had short blond hair and a reletively nice build. "Sind Sie ganz richtig?" She squinted against the sun and read his lips the best she could. He was asking if she was ok, or so she hoped. She nodded. "lassen Sie mich Ihnen helfen." He wanted to help her, and he offered her a hand. She took it and stood, and then placed her hand on her elbow. "That does not look so well." She watched him speak and this time he spoke in English. "Come with me, I'll help you get cleaned up. My name is Gustav. What is yours?" It was harder to read his lips when he did not pronounce the words so well in English, but Sydney did her best. She shook her head sadly, and pointed to herself with her good hand.
She was deaf.
More? Or not? This will be written the same time as my other one, don't worry. Love in Hindsight. What do you think?

Syndey sat on the stool across from Gustav swinging her legs, adverting her eyes and sucking hard on her straw. Gustav had taken her back to a rather large apartment building not too far from the resorviore and told her that it was his place. He had patched her up, sat her down on his couch and disapeared. Twenty minutes later he had returned with some food, and she had hesitated. With his encouragement she wolfed down her meal and savored the coke he had brought for her. The entire time he had watched her curiously, not taking his sincere gaze away from her even for a moment. She took it as that he was staring because he found her revolting as most people did, and refused to return his gaze. After a few moments, Gustav stood and left the room. She looked after him, and stood when he left the room, assuming to would want her to leave. She was filthy, probably smelled and wasn't someone anyone would want to be around.
She just had her hand on the doorknob when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to find Gustav offering her a towel and a robe. "A Shower." She read his words and wrinkled her nose. He was trying to clean her up so she didn't reek when he put her back on the streaks, doing his good deed for the day. "You are staying with me." She could see by the expression on his face when she read his lips that he meant it as a statement, not a question, and she did not even know what to think. Staying with a strange boy? It was better than the streets. She took the towel and robe from him slowly and he smiled and led her to the bathroom. Once alone and in the shower, she sat down and drew her knees to her chin, a common, safe stance for her, and cried. She was overwhelmed by such simple acts of kindness. No one had bothered to even look at her for more than a few cruel moments in two years, and now this boy was offering his home after an hour.
Clean and calm, Sydney stepped from the bathroom and padded on bare feet into the livingroom/kitchen area where she had been originaly. She stopped in her tracks and turned red when she found herself in a robe not in front of one boy, but four. Fear slammed into her stomach and she concluded that they wanted to do to her what her boss at the restaurant had done, and she realized she should have never trusted this boy. She turned back and ran into the bathroom and slammed the door behind her. She slid down on the door to the floor and shook violently. She felt the vibrations of a soft knock on the door, but she didn't move. Again, the vibrations traveled into her sences, and she finally let the knocker in. Gustav sat down on the flood across from her, and chewed his lip, looking at her, sad eyes searching her. She felt raw and open and dropped her eyes to her lap. He reached out and touched her arm, and she looked up to read his lips. "I'm sorry. I don't know what has happened to you, but these are my friends, they will not hurt you. Your clothes are in the wash." The way he held his expression, it somehow comforted her.
Unsteady on her own two feet, she followed Gustav out to face the three new faces once more, and she sat slowly on an overstuffed leather chair. She was just taking everything in when the tallest, lankiest boy stood and approached her. He squatted in front of her and looked up into her face. His hair was long and black, covored in a beanie and his eyes were covored in make up. He had a genuine smile and made Sydney feel like he actually liked the sight of her tangled mess of hair and sun damaged skin. She hesitantly met his gaze and he spoke much too fast for her to read his lips. She had only been deaf since the accident, and se was slowly working on reading lips. He must have realized, because he stood and went to get something from the kitchen. He came back a moment later with a dry erase board and marker. On it he wrote: "My name is Bill. You are safe with us." He erased it and handed the pad to her. She stared down at it. Slowly, in sloppy handwriting, she wrote. "Sydney. Please do not hurt me." He read it and she stiffened a moment when he rapped his arms around her in the first hug she had had in a very long time.
The other two boys, she came to find, were Tom and Georg. Tom had only half-smiled in her direction and looked away, red in the face and visibly uncomfortable. She was hurt, but did not take too much from it, she was not much to the eyes, and she could understand why he would not want to speak to her. Georg had been as welcoming as the other two. The boys all watched Tv while she sat, curled up on the couch. Gustav brought her a hairbrush and then finally her clothes, cleaned. She felt much better dressed and was able to relax a little. "Tomarow, I will buy you new clothes." Gustav had told her. She did not know who these boys were, but they were an answer to pray, if she prayed at all.

For the first time in months, Sydney had a full stomach for more than 24 hours. She had been at Gustav's now for three days, and she was still in complete shock about how open and generous he was being towards her. Bill had continued to come around to bring her little things - a coffee one time, some pretty hair bands another, her very own hair brush and tooth brush yet another. She was slowly growing accustomed to her surroundings and the two boys. Georg and Tom had yet to be back, but she did not mind, it was easier that way, to get to know them slowly.
The sunlight filtered through the guest room window shades and she opened her eyes slowly to greet the day. She could not remember the last time she had been so comfortable sleeping, and was thrilled to be able to get a full nights rest without waking to a strange face or something of hers gone missing. She got up and padded to the bathroom. She was wearing one of Tom's over sized T's. He had sent it over with Bill yesterday for her to wear as a night gown. She was not really sure what to make of him quite yet, but she supposed that it was a start.
Gustav was dancing around the kitchen making eggs when she came out, and she smiled, watching him. It took him a moment to notice her, and when he did he turned red and took a bow. This amused her and she laughed. At least, what she hoped was a laugh, she could never be sure anymore. He walked over and took her elbow, guiding her to the table and had her sit down. He brought her over a plate of eggs, bacon, and buttered toast. It looked so good, and she had lost her hesitancy about eating, and dug right in. Gustav got himself a plate and sat down across from her, getting completely absorbed in his meal.
A movement at the door caused Sydney to look up, and Tom stood there, looking slightly awkward and uncomfortable. She bit her lip and dropped her eyes, feeling weird again. She must have really made him feel uncomfortable. Gustav got up and they chatted for a moment. Sydney looked up and watched their mouths but could only catch bits and pieces. "You want to?" "...Bad start and..." "Well...thats fine...just be..." "...am an idiot...just..." It was frustrating not being able to hear. She stood and cleared her plate, putting it in the sink. Tom walked over to her and smiled weakly. He was careful to look her right in the eyes when he spoke, making sure he could be understood. "I'm taking you to get clothes, while Gustav does some things." Sydney was surprised but nodded.
At the first store, she tried to look around for clothing that was on sale, however ugly it was. Tom pitched a fit she could only catch half of, and he began to hand her things that she would never have even blinked at, because the prices were extremely unimaginable. She tried something on and came out of the dressing room, half terrified. It was a comfortable fitted T, red, with the the word "Roxy" splattered across the front. Along with it she had put on tight jeans, and was standing there in front of Tom feeling like a complete idiot. He smiled and seemed to warm up to her a bit, placing his arms on her shoulders and holding her at arms length, nodding his approval. A few more outfits later they picked up lunch and headed back to the apartment.
Gustav greeted them at the door, and stopped cold when he saw her. Sydney was terrified that he hated the way she looked. After a stunned moment, though, his face broke into a huge smile and he spoke. She didn't catch it, and he picked up her dry erase board. "You look amazing." She smiled at the written words and took the marker. "You are mein engels." Both boys smiled. Once everything was unpacked, she watched TV with the two of them. Thank God for captions. Their faces flashed across the screen, and she looked at them both in surprise. Who WERE they? Tokio Hotel? A band? What was this? She would find out in time.

Does that mean I'm right???? Ooh, I have some more speculation for the plot twist.
1. Tom is uncomfortable because he slept with her before and recognizes her, and the accident in which she lost her hearing has something to do with her relationship with Tom.
2. She and Tom will hook up, not her and Gustav.
3. She'll get her hearing back somehow, but don't ask me why.
Am I right? Hmm? HMM?! I am, aren't I?

So does that mean that one is 100% right, and at least one of the other ones is partly right? I'm guessing that she WILL somehow become un-deaf somehow and the whole Tom situation is partly right. Did you know that there have been cases where someone has had a shock to the head (like hit their head), and they went blind? Then they had another shock to the head and they got their sight back? It was in the author's note thing in a book I read for school. Are you planning on doing that for the story? You don't have to answer that, but I'm just letting you know in case you consider it.

I was considering it, and still am. Actually, I knew a man who worked with horses- and lost his hearing by getting knocked in the head by a horses' head, and then like...20 years later a horse bonked heads with him again and he regained his hearing o.o
That just might be the case...but yes, it has to do with Tom, but not what your expecting :). A few chappie will be up tomarrow!

.Flashback.
Being nine and a half was hard. Nine and a half, yes, not nice and a quarter, not nine and a fourth. Nine and a half, going on ten. When you get to nine and a half the whole world suddenly changes and you become all grown up and people start to ask you what you want to be when you grow up. A fireman? Nein. A business man? Nein! A taxi driver? Ach, nein. The guitar in Tom's hands had made up his mind for him. Being young didn't change destiny, and he knew that. He blinked slowly and [i]squinted at the chord book his step dad had placed before him. He was sitting out on his front porch, and the whole world didn't seem to matter anymore, now that he had this guitar. Billie, his twin brother, came flouncing down the steps, a pile of books a mile high in his arms, all of them about airplanes. He was going through one of his phases, but his best phase was his love to sing, which Bill did constantly.
His brother disappeared around the corner, and Tom looked up after him, only to find a waif of a girl standing there, watching him and his new treasure. He smiled. "Hallo. Want to be friends?" She smiled and nodded. "I am Sydney. Can I play?" He hesitated, feeling an overwhelming sense of protection over his guitar, but then nodded. She sat down gingerly on the step next to him and played a simple version of "Mary had a little lamb." Tom grinned at her. She giggled, handed him back the guitar, and then scampered away.
Now. (Tom)
There was nothing worse than the feeling that there was something you should know. Something that should be prominent in the thought process, but alludes you entirely without mercy. The entire time they sat watching TV, Tom kept his eyes on Sydney. She was so horribly familiar, and it was eating away at him. He had tried hanging out with her that day to see if anything jogged his memory, but there was nothing. He knew for a fact that he had never met a deaf girl before. Why was this bothering him so much? When she gave him and Gusti awkward side glances, he looked to the TV and discovered himself looking at stupid paparazzi propaganda again. It never ended for them, and this time it was something about him and another girl. Not that it wasn't true, in fact, it was, but he didn't let his face show it and just sunk deeper into the couch.
Just a moment later his phone buzzed in his pocket and he slipped it out, sliding it open. "Hey there. My place. 7:30. He grinned wryly. Another girl, another night, another good time. This one was from Italy or something like that. He gave a quick look over at Gustav, who was half-glaring at him. He knew that his friend had every clue in the world what the text was about. He turned a tiny bit darker shade of red but shrugged it off. He got up, stretched, and winked over at Sydney for no apparent reason, but she blushed anyways. Like putty in his hands. After a quick goodbye to Gustav, he headed for the door. It was going to be a good night.
Now. (Sydney)
She could feel Tom staring at her again and it made her feel really uncomfortable. She kept busy by studying the TV, and realized she was in the room with two famous boys, which made her shrink into herself. The boy who had taken her shopping that day was a player. She felt extremely confused, but when she looked over at Gustav, he gave her a sympathetic and reassuring smile which made her feel like even this news could not bother her. Every moment she interacted with Gustav she liked him more, but she could never act on those feelings. He was a friend, and she knew he did not feel any more than that towards her.
Tom stopped staring and seemed to change completely. He stood and when she looked up at him, he winked at her and she couldn't help but blush. After he left, Gustav got up and began to clean a little, before coming to sit on the couch next to her, dry erase board in hand just in case. "Can I ask you a question?" She bit her lip and nodded, watching him steadily. "How did you get to...you know, where you were." She dropped her gaze, and after a moment, took the board from him. She wrote small.
"When I was 16, my parents and I were on a trip to the country. The car went over a bump, and two tires went out. We were able to coast, but only onto train tracks. Papa did not think that a train would come for awhile so he got out to change the tires. Mama saw the train first. She got out, I remember her and papa pushing the car as best they could. I was getting out to help them, when the train hit. I am deaf because I hit my head on the door that I was trying to open. Papa and Mama, I never saw them again. They tried to put me in foster care..."
She had not realized it but she had tears running down her cheeks. Gustav had been reading as she was writing, and slowly pulled the board away. He wrapped his arms around her, and she cried hard into his chest. Nothing in the world could be more confusing.

(Gustav)
He awoke a few hours later to find dried tear stains and Sydney was fast asleep on his shoulder. His whole body was sore and he HAD to move. At the risk of waking her up, he shifted his hole body and she stirred. That made him feel kind of bad, but his body felt like otherwise it would have fallen to pieces. She opened those amazing eyes that had caught him off guard that day in the park, and sat up quickly. She was still so scared, and he didn't quite understand why, but he was beginning to see.
He patted her cheek gently and stood, cracking his back and then walked into the kitchen to get himself a glass of water. It was all he could do to keep himself from turning around and professing his love to her right then and there, but that was no way he could do that. Not now, perhaps never. He turned to find her standing there, chewing on her lip. He hated not being able to hear her voice. He imagined it being soft...kind of like rain. He held out a glass of water to her and she smiled, taking it. He never wanted her to leave, ever.
(Sydney)
She awoke with a start, her neck sore and her face raw. Gustav went into the kitchen after a few moments and she followed, afraid to be by herself for no particular reason. He handed her a glass of water and she took it. H seemed to warm up to her, like a brother. She wished it could be more, but no one liked her that way. Atleast, not since she was little, back when her parents were alive and she had years before the lost them. But that boy was long gone and she had all but forgotten him.
She was overwhelming greatful for Gustav, and she set her cup of water down and did something brave. She put her arms around him and hugged him tightly, though she was shaking from head to toe. She had no idea how to trust anyone, but he seemed as harmless as a child which caused her to open up. He hugged her back, tighter than anyone had ever hugged her. She had to know if he could ever love her back, but then again, she couldn't possibly.
.Flashback.
The swings were empty on the playground and Tom felt like being alone. He and his brother had been in a large fight over nothing that day, and the band had decided it wasn't a good time to practice. They had been on TV a few times of late, because of his step dad, as well as had a photo shoot, which had been so much fun. Yet Bill had a growing ego and it was taking Tom awhile to get used to it. Being ten was even more frustrating than nine. Well, at least he was living his dream. That, and he had Sydney. She had grown to be his best friend besides Bill and he loved her like a ten year old could love.
She somehow knew he needed her, and came skipping across the grass. She was always so happy, and that sometimes bothered him. None the less, he was crazy about her, and needed her in his life. She skipped over and pecked him on the cheek. "Whats wrong, Tomi?" He smiled and started to swing, higher, and higher. She joined in. They linked hands. "Think we'll be friends forever, Sydney?" She squeezed his hand. "Of course, silly!" Then she let go, and jumped. She landed on her feet. Wouldn't it be great if we always landed on our feet?

Right. Sometimes you have to change things to make the story work, like mine and the fact that they finished their European tour. There's supposed to be a suprise from them to the fans in their concert in France soon.

Yeah, it all goes great until you get writers block and leave all of your readers with a story unfinished for eternity...  Yes, it has happened to me before. But for some reason it's always on fanfics and never stories for school or anything. Maybe it's 'cause you have a deadline you need to reach in school. But yeah, I do wish that could happen. Except for the bad parts. I know it seems cheesy and kiddy, but I hate sad endings. It has to be happy, or I'm not happy with the story in the end. So that's why all of my stories are happy in the end, at least so far. I know sometime I'll have to do something sad, because life isn't all happy. Even though my favorite and almost only thing I ever write about is fantasy and things like that, you still have to make those things at least a little real....
How and why the heck did I start talking about that?

haha, its cool :D. Well, I have dealt with MONTHS of writers block, so I feel your pain :(. I have a different writing style than most people do...I never ever plan out the story. I let it come to me as I go...which I guess is pretty brave if you think about it. I mean...writers block can be a lot worse if you don't have a set ending, lol. Like for instance: Breaking the silence? Def. Had no idea what I was even going to write about when I started it. It just kind of came, and I didn't even know where it was going until I got feed back. Insane, I know. So yeah, writers block is like a norm in my life >.<

That's how I write, too.
I just make up characters and throw them into a story and let the ideas come to me.

That's my problem! I never think it all the way through either. I just get a story idea and become really excited, then write it and end up stuck. I just go with the writer's flow and let it all come to me, and hope I think of an end.

Now. (Tom)
Cold sweat trickled down Tom's brow and he woke up in a cold sweat. The sound of a little girls laughter filled his ears and he tore off his covers, suddenly beyond hot. The little girl's face swam before his eyes even in his awoken state and sat up, breathing hard. The dream about the swings came to him nightly now. Why? Why now? Then it hit him. Sydney. Oh, mein, gott. SYDNEY. Why had he not realized it before? He jumped from his bad, threw on his pants and a wife beater and nearly fell out the door. Right. Have to BUTTON the pants. His mind raced as he raced down the stairs. Sydney wasn't deaf, or hadn't been deaf. Could it really be? It took him about ten minutes to reach Gustav's door and started to pound on it, when it finally occurred to him what time it was. Two in the **** a.m.
Gustav came to the door in his boxers, looking groggy. "The hel.l?" Tom put his hand on the back of his head and turned red. "Sorry man...I..." Gustav rolled his eyes, shook his head and opened the door wider for Tom to come in, and Tom did, obligingly. Sydney lay asleep on the couch, looking a little like she had been crying, and he rushed over to her like there was no tomorrow. His excitement was too much for him, and he couldn't wake. He touched her arm and shook her gently, practically bouncing in his seat next to her.
She sat up, blinking at him, obviously confused. "Its me, its me, Tom, Tomi, Its me, Sydney, do you remember? What happened to your voice? Its me!" She obviously could not catch a word he was saying, and he reached over, flipped on a light, and pulled out his wallet, which thank God he remembered. Pulling a picture of Bill and himself out from when they were younger, he thrust it in her face. She took it and looked at it, eyes slowly adjusting to the light. Suddenly, she was awake, and she threw her arms around him, nearly knocking him to the ground. It WAS her. It was his Sydney!
Now (Sydney)
Being so rudely awakened in the middle of the night was nothing new to Sydney, but being so rudely awakened here...was. She blinked at Tom, who looked like he was about to pop, and she struggled to read his shouting lips in the dark. Then, light. It burned. Then, a picture. She looked at it, took it in. Oh, MEIN GOTT. It was TOMI! He looked so different now, so grown up, she would have never known. Overwhelmed, she threw her arms around him. Her face split into the largest grin she could muster, and looked up at Gustav, who was standing behind them looking completely bewildered. She could not explain, how ever much she wanted to, only pulled away and looked into Tom's face. It WAS him. Now that she looked into his eyes, she could see the little boy she once played with all day long.
Without hesitation he showered her with kisses, all over her face and she could not help but laugh. All the old childhood feelings came rushing back and she could not believe what was happening. When Tomi had moved away, she never imagined seeing him again. She might have, if her parents had owned a TV, but they didn't believe in all the hype. Now here he was, in the flesh, his lips touching her nose like they once had, a long time ago. Life had turned upside down and inside out just now. Hadn't it already?
Now (Gustav)
Gustav woke to a start to a banging on the door. Dragging himself out of bed, he found the door knob just barely, and opened it to Tom's giddy face. What the-? Time went int overdrive and the next thing Gustav knew he was watching Tom kiss the girl he had saved and now loved. His stomach dropped to his knees and he watched them. Somehow they knew each other. Somehow. Gustav realized he was right in thinking this girl could never love him, she had Tom now, who needed him?
He backed away, leaving the two alone to reconnect, heartbroken.

(Now.) (Tom.)
Tom liked to play with his lip ring when he was bored, and couldn't keep his eyes off Sydney as she cleaned up her room, which was once the guest room in Gustav's apartment. It had not taken the two long to become reacquainted, though Tom could not remember for the life of him why they had stopped talking. It was eating at him, though, and he knew he could figure it out eventually. He had so much to tell her and ask her and had practically written her a novel on her dry erase board about everything that had happened. At some point along the line her face had fell but when he had tried to get her to tell him what wrong, she just shook her head and smiled up at him.
He could not stop hugging her every few minutes, amazed at the fact that he had just found the girl he had believed to he his little angel when he was younger. A lot of different thoughts trickled through his mind but he couldn't act on any of them, he was too confused by the turn of events. His phone vibrated in his pocket and he pulled it out, almost ignoring it but changed his mind. "Sexy boy. Tina from the club. I want you." He grinned wryly, text back, and then flipped his phone closed. Getting up, he went to leave, before remembering his little Sydney and feeling bad. He turned, patted her knee from where she was perched on the bed, and then kissed her nose before leaving. Two good things in one day.
(Now.) (Sydney.)
Sydney finished cleaning her room and sat on her bed. The day had been overwhelming, but she ignored the knot in her stomach and relaxed a little. Tom didn't do much right then, just sat and watched him think things over. He seemed to be pretty content just to be with her, like old times. He pulled out his phone and slid it up. He must have had a text because he tapped out something in reply and then got up to leave. She turned as red as a tomato when he kissed her nose, and after he left fell back into the bed with a huge sigh. Not even a few minutes later Gustav appeared and sat on the edge of her bed, looking nervous. She smiled up at him, unsure at what was bothering him and patted his knee. She picked up her board and wrote. "Want to go out for dinner?" he smiled half heartedly and nodded his agreement.
(Now.) (Gustav)
Gustav was hurting. He did not understand why Tom had to go and steal his thunder like that, but he was sure it was not on purpose. He watched the boy leave without a word and want into her room hesitantly to find her laying down, looking comfy and quiet. It took every ounce of his stregth not to lay down next to her, and when she asked him to dinner he nearly burst. Dinner for him was good. She read his lips while he told her more about the band and she wrote questions down on a napkin for him. "When did you meet Tomi and Bill? Will you play drums for me? I can feel vibrations..." He talked until his voice nearly hurt.
.flashback.
Tomi had no time for anything anymore. His band was actually making it somewhere and he spent hours upon hours playing guitar every day until his fingers nearly bled. Billie danced around the house singing constantly, and Tomi could only laugh at him and follow him around with his acoustic guitar. There was nothing that Tom liked more than screaming fans, and, although he was young, he began to realize that he was seriously into girls. Girls a little younger and even a little older would stop him in the streets and ask him if he was "that one boy from that one band" and he was thrilled to pieces about it. Sydney was there to support him the best she could, coming to every performance.
"Tomi, we never hang out anymore." Sydney stood at his door, chewing her lip and looking at him. She had a black eye. "What happened to your eye?" She looked away. "Its nothing." Tom stepped out onto the porch. "Who hit you?" He reached out and touched the bruise. Wincing, she looked up at him, smiling like nothing in the world was the matter. "Really. It was nothing. Can we go get icecream?" She looked into his eyes hopefully. "I can't Bill and I have to get this song just right." Her face dropped and she nodded, turning to go. "Tomorrow!" He called after her. She didn't hope too much.

(Now.) (Gustav.)
Three months had gone by now since he had run into Sydney in the park. She seemed like an every day part of life now, and besides the boys she was his best friend. He never told her that, but he could almost see it in her eyes that she felt the same way. There was a problem, however. A BIG problem. Gustav would never talk about it or acknowledge it, but he was completely in love with her. Not much of a problem for the average teenage boy but the average teenage boy did not have Tom Kaulitz to run against. It killed him to see the two of them together. Tom would take Sydney out on the town, trying to make up for years of forgetting her, and Gustav would stay at home, seething. It was effecting his music and his heart, but he never uttered a word.
Tom was playing her like a fiddle, too. Gustav knew it and he tossed and turned every night trying to shake the guilt from himself for not telling her. She had never seemed happier, however. The childhood sweetheart of hers was back in her life like a dream. Gustav did not want to get in the way of that, so he settled for late night movies and the occasional hug. Besides, he lived with her...atleast Tom didn't have that. "Gustav, why are you so sad?" The note was left for him when he woke up one morning. He almost missed it, he had been on the way out for sound check. He stared at it, not really sure how to feel about it or her or himself. "I'm not, sunshine. Don't worry about me." Then he left.
(Now.) (Tom.)
Tom had never really ever felt guilty about anything in his lifetime. There was one time when he had played a prank on Bill - he had put wax in his hair while he was sleeping a few years back - and Bill hadn't spoken to him for a few days. Tom had felt guilty then for hitting a soft spot in his brother, but other than that, guilt wasn't really a feeling he was privy to. Yet if there was anything he was feeling now, it was just that. Sydney was smiling over at him from across the table. He had taken her out for breakfast before the sound check that afternoon, and had come smelling like sex. He could see in her eyes that she recognize it but he didn't really want to address it, so he just ordered their meals and ate in silence, trying to ignore the nagging feeling in the pit of his stomach.
He didn't think he was falling for Sydney. They had been childhood lovers and they where far from children anymore, but at the same time he felt like he owed her something. She was beautiful - he would give her that, and her personality shined through her silence. He was not used to loving a girl for her personality, but if anyone could bring the best out in him, he knew it was Sydney. The only thing that stopped him from falling back to his boyhood was the knowledge that he had changed...and was much to afriad to go back and be something he wasn't anymore.
He realized he had been staring hard at his food without moving when Sydney placed a napkin under his nose with words written on it. "Tom, what is it? You haven't been yourself." Somehow, that struck a nerve, and Tom's eyes burned a second with unwanted tears. He shook off the need to cry and replaced his feelings. "Not myself? I am myself. I just grew up, thats all. Maybe you should too." The instant the words came out of his mouth he wished them back in. Maybe he had only thought them, but it wasn't true. The look on her face gave it all away. "I mean...I...Syd, no, please." She had stood up, and was wiping away hot tears. He stood, his stomach tightening. He felt like he was going to throw up, what had he done? "Please..." She shook her head fiercely and turned, running out of the restaurant. "Sydney! ******, SYDNEY!" But she could not hear him.
(Now.) (Sydney.)
She had been so, so very happy that Tom had wanted to take her out again. She found herself loving the boy like she once had, many years ago. He seemed to return the love, but she was not sure, and she stayed in the comfort zone Gustav offered her. She adored Gustav with every fiber of her being, but had come to terms with the fact that he wanted nothing more than to be friends. She had figured that Tomi must love her all over again, because he wanted her around so often, and had dared to feel deeply for the boy. Breakfast that morning was strange. He seemed so lost in thought, and she worried about him. She had smelled something sour on him that morning as well. Not the usual smell of Axe. She had shrugged it off but it still sat in the back of her mind.
She planned on telling him that morning that she loved him, and when he wouldn't look at her, she wrote him a little note of concern and set it before him. He looked up at her, fear in his eyes, and spat out words that though she could not hear, came in perfectly clear and spiteful. Realization of her stupidity hit her and she felt a wave of nausea come over her. There was nothing to do but run. She stopped trying to read his lips as the tears came, and she knew exactly where she wanted to go. Her feet carried her to the park bench, and she nearly crashed into it. She brought her knees up to her chin and shook with her sobs. How could she have been so stupid?
(Now.) (Gustav)
Tom was extremely late for sound check and Bill was a nervous wreck. He was pacing around like a caged animal. "He'll show up, I promise. Tom never misses anything that has to do with the band." Gustav was sitting on the couch, legs up on a stool, trying to calm down the boy. "He has been acting so weird lately. Its like Sydney has taken over his brain...or something. I can't figure him out for once." Gustav winced inwardly. Sydney was what had taken him over, not Tom. Hopefully. The door burst open and Tom came in, looking about ready to break something. "Sorry I'm late. Had to. Uhm. Do stuff." Bill placed his hands on his hips. "And where were you?" He demanded, ignoring the death stare he received from his brother. "NOWHERE, GOTT. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?! Tom snarled, and picked up his guitar. Gustav was worried that he might rip it in half.
A slow realization came over him. Tom was supposed to bring Sydney with him. He stood and walked over to Tom, feeling irritated himself. "Man, where is Sydney?" Tom's face went from angry to sad to angry again. "I don't know. She ran off." Gustav felt his stomach tighten. "What do you mean ran off?" Now HE was the one upset. "We had like...a fight...and I don't know. She ran off. What do you care?" Gustav wanted to punch Tom in the stomach, but his worry for Sydney was much more prominent. Not even bothering to explain, he ran from the band room to his car and sped back to the apartment as fast as he could.
She wasn't there. She wasn't anywhere. Two hours later Gustav had hot, frustrated tears running down his face, and sweat covering his body. Then it hit him. The park. Why hadn't he thought of that before. He left his car and jogged all the way there, adrenaline keeping him in focus. There. The park bench. She was curled up, asleep on one side of it. He stopped, bent over and caught his breath. Relief flooded his body while anger towards Tom coursed through his veins. Gently, he scooped her up in his arms and took her home.

Sorry...things got a little messy and didn't get to post yesterday :(.
(Now.) (Tom.)
The way the guilt was eating at him made him completely sick to his stomach the entire concert. Gustav was glowering at him from the drum set, he could feel the stare drilling into the back of his head. He tried to distract himself by air humping his guitar, but that made him feel even more sick to the stomach and he dropped his guitar back to his side and he dropped his head a moment, before standing up strait and forcing himself to shake it off. For once, he didn't feel like playing, and when he did, it sounded horrible to him. The fans didn't seem to mind, however. They were too star struck. He was usually incredibly annoyed by star struck girls, the screaming/crying fans, but today the feeling was heightened and he didn't even bother to stick around and sign autographs afterwards.
Once back in his and Bills apartment all alone, he pulled off his cap and two shirts in frustration and laid down on the couch with a sigh. He didn't know why he felt the way he did. There was nothing but a past between himself and Sydney, wasn't there? He was almost afraid of her, and he didn't quite get it. He felt with every part of his being that there was something else he was missing as well. Something. Bruises. Bruises? It didn't matter. The night had worn him out, and as he drifted off, his cell phone vibrated several times. For once, he ignored it.
.Flashback.
Sydney lay out on the porch, sunbathing the best she could in overcast weather. Bill was playing with dolls...no, he had corrected her, "ACTION FIGURES" on the ground next to her. Something called Power Rangers, whatever they were. She was not much for TV. He was making shooting noises with his mouth and laughing to himself. It was a rare break for the boys that day, no musical demands, and she had come over that morning ready for a full day with her favorite twins. Tom was still asleep in bed, however. Not such a big deal...it was only eleven, but she still wanted time with him. Even in the muggy summer weather she was wearing a long sleeve shirt and long pants. Bill hadn't asked why, but she knew he had given her a weird look.
Finally, after she thought she couldn't stand the shooting noises or the day any longer, Tom appeared at the door rubbing his eyes and blinking at her. "Oh, hey Syd." The screen door slapped closed behind him and he sat down on the porch next to her and Bill. "Why are you wearing all that? Its effing hot out here." He had never sworn before a few weeks ago. She squinted up into the sun. "Not so bad, Tomi." He shook his head and grabbed her arm, meaning to be playful, and pulled up her sleeve. Another bruise. "Ok, WHAT is THIS?!" He demanded. She pulled away and stared hard into the dirt. Bill got up and came over, poking her in the side. "Please tell us, Sydsydi" She stood, tears hot on her eyes. They call me your hoe at school. They say I am a young prostitute. And your not there, your not there to help me anymore!" Tears ran down her cheeks, and the twins watched in shock as she ran away.

(Now.) Sydney
Sydney lay in bed staring up at the ceiling, completely numb. She had remembered, of course, why she and Tom no longer spoke after so many years of close friendship, but she had blocked it out the best she could in order to move on with her life and still be happy. When he had showed her the love and admiration she had remembered from the good times, however, she had assumed that he had changed. That he had forgotten to be fame struck and become her little Tomi all over again. Maybe it wasn't so. Gustav had carried her home and laid her where she was then, and told her that he had a concert, but would be back as soon as it was over. He was so good to her, so attentive, but she was afraid to stick around. Gustav and Tom were part of a team, and that was not going to change.
She tormented herself with the idea of running away, far away, over and over again. She had done it once before, and she had not ended up in a place worth being. That was the only thing to stop her. Frustration seeped through her veins and she shut her eyes, opening her mouth and her vocal chords, only being able to feel the vibrations as she screamed. It did not occur to her to worry that someone might hear her. It was a world of silence that she lived in.
Gustav came home holding a bag and walked into her room. Sitting on the bed beside her, he saw she was awake, and turned the light on. After blinking a moment, her eyes adjusted and she saw him pull out a bottle of wine from the bag, and a box of freshly baked brownies. He knew exactly what she needed. Pulling out brand new wine glasses, he popped the bottle open and poured the wine while she sat up and opened the brownies and took one out for each of them. The indulged in silence, and Sydney began to feel the buzz she so despairingly needed.
(Now.) Gustav
He had thought of what Sydney needed over anything all night. Every pound on his drum set, Sydney, Sydney. He tore from the concert hall and back home as fast as he possibly could and only stopped for a perfect remedy for any broken heart. He was admittedly a bit of a light weight and only needed a little of wine to get that welcoming buzz. He completely forgot about Tom for awhile and was even brave enough to pour her more wine. After a moment of watching her nibble on a brownie, he couldn't stand it any longer. If anything had happened, it was his love had grown deeper in the past few hours.
He reached forward and lifted her chin gently, looking into her sad eyes. He wished she could hear. He wanted to talk fast. He wanted to explain everything he had felt since the day he had met her. He wanted to tell her that Tom should mean nothing and he was the past. Gustav was now. He wanted that. There was no way he could have her understand all of it. So, instead, with guts he never knew he had, and with a little help from the wine, he kissed her. Softly, tenderly. After a moment, she kissed him back. A feeling like fire shot through him, and he pulled back slowly after a moment, his breath stuck in his throat.
(Now.) Tom.
Tom woke up in the middle of the night, long after he had drifted off, in a cold sweat, gasping. Something had just happened. He sat up and rubbed his face vigorously. Something with Sydney. It was the same sort of feeling when something was wrong with Bill, except this was not Bill. He jumped up, grabbed his keys, and headed over to Gustavs.

.Flashback.
"Something wrong, little ****?" Sydney had never seen this girl before and yet she was pushing her up against the wall. It was the third time in a week. "Why don't you just go cry to your little Tomi? He'll make it better." She smirked cruelly and pushed Sydney up against the wall harder, lifting her a good inch on the ground in the process. She closed her eyes and turned her head away, squeezing her eyes as tightly shut as she could, wishing it all away. There was yelling from a familiar voice and suddenly she was dropped. She slumped to the ground and sniffled into her hands, feeling the blood gushing from her nose. "Sydney, Syd, are you ok?" Tom leaned down and pulled up her face gently. She tried to breathe, but it only hurt. "Come on, lets get you cleaned up."
A few hours later Sydney sat at their kitchen counter swinging her legs and resting her chin on the cool tile. She was staring at a plate of cookies. She loved cookies, but not today. Bill had been trying to cheer her up by making up a song for her, but it had only gotten a half-smile and he had given up. Tom sat across from her, tapping on the counter top. "So this is where the bruises came from." She nodded slowly. "I am so sorry, Syd." She shook her head and buried her face in her arms. "Tomi, I can't do this." She heard him lean forward. "Do what?" "Get beat up for loving you." She looked up at him, her face streaked with tears once more. Tom didn't know what to say.
(Now.) Sydney
The kiss was like magic. It made her happy and sad and lustful and wistful and dreamy all at once. She had never kissed a boy before...not for real, anyway. It had taken her eighteen long years to finally find the lips that would set hers on fire. When she finally pulled away, she looked up into Gustav's flushed face. She felt fear rip through her as she considered what this could mean. "Please...I...can't live without you." Gustav wmouthed. She had heard those words before. Not watched them. Heard them. Yet Gustav was different. She may have not been able to audibly receive his promise of love, but she could feel it. It was then she chose to forget Tom. Chose to move forward. Childhood was not more.
She kissed him again. This time deeper, and they fell back onto the bed in a warm embrace. They didn't go any farther, but it felt good to be held for more than just friendship. It felt good to be really loved. Thats when Tom burst through the door.
(Now.) Tom
Tom found the door unlocked, and when he didn't see anyone in the kitchen or living room area, made his way right to her room. Flinging open the door to declare his love and apologize, he stopped cold. There, in bed, was Sydney. HIS Sydney. and Gustav. His heart stopped and he stood panting, feeling his heart ripping from inside. He was too late. Gustav jumped up, red in the face and backed away. "Tom, man, we were not -""Not what? Not involved? Not together? Shut up, Gustav." Tom felt tears streaming down his face. He looked over at Sydney, who was sitting up, looking terrified. "And I was going to tell you I loved you." She could just barely read his lips in the dim light, but the message was loud and clear, he could see that.
(Now.) Sydney
When she read Tom's lips, pain shot through every inch of her body. Love? It wasn't possible, was it? He turned and ran for the door. Trying to stand, She went to run after him, but tripped and fell. A familiar pain shot through her head and everything went black.

(Now.) Gustav.
Gustav saw her fall. He yelled for Tom but he was long gone. Panic filled his stomach and lifted her into his arms and ran out into the hallway leading away from his apartment. "PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP ME! ****. ****IT, PLEASE!" He ran from door to door yelling until finally an older man in his boxers opened his door. Looking groggy, he took in the scene and disappeared back inside to call an ambulance. Sydney's ear were bleeding, and Gustav's shirt was stained red. Crying, he held her tight until a parametric took her from his arms. He forced himself past the medics and into the ambulance, all the while trying to get a hold of Tom. He must have called him a hundred times on the way to the hospital, and every call was ignored. Frustrated, he gave up and called Bill.
[b]"We just got to the hospital." "****, is she ok?" "I don't know Bill. She took a hard hit." "Where is Tom?" "I...I don't know." The line went dead. Bill would be worried for Tom as well, and Gustav found himself feeling a bit guilty. Tom was his friend first and foremost, and he suddenly realized he might have lost that. He was snapped form his guilt when Sydney gasped. They had her in a room now, and she had barely been breathing until now. Nearly sprinting the two steps to her bed, he fell to his knees and took her hand. "Oh thank gott." He whispered. She moved her head back and forth, her eyes squeezed shut. She was in pain. "CAN I GET A DOCTOR IN HERE?!" Gustav turned and yelled as loud as he could.
(now.) Bill.
Bill had awoken at about 6 am with a start, feeling a sickening emotional pain wash over him. Tears streamed down his cheeks. Tom. Worried, he dialed his number a few times but could not get him to answer. After the tenth try, Gustav called him. He felt even worse when he heard the news, and he got up to dress and ran out the door. Once at the hospital, he was ushered upstairs and found a doctor hovering over Sydney. He remembered being young and carefree and thinking that she and Tom would be together forever. He also remembered how it had all ended. He wondered if she did. He pulled Gustav away to let the doctor work.
"What happened?" Gustav told him the entire story, red in the face. Oh, Tomi. Bill's first reaction was to yell, to stick up for his brother. Yet he knew Tom had it coming to him and felt bad for poor Gustav, who he could see completely loved this girl. His phone rang. He snapped it open. Tom! Nodding to Gustav, Bill walked down the hall to have a little bit of privacy.
"Tomi, are you ok?"
"Nein."
"Where are you?"
"Why should it matter?"
"Because I am worried about you."
"You worry too much, Billa."
Bill bit his lip and looked down at the floor. He was used to his brothers games, but now wasn't the time.
"Syd is in the hospital."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Bill swore he heard a sniffle. Then Tom hung up. Sighing, Bill could only go and see Sydney. She lay peacefully on her bed now, and Gustav sat watching her. The doctor had left and all was quiet. He wondered what it was like in Sydney's world. She had been so talkative and lively when he had known her. How was she coping now? Reaching out, he took his old friends hand and sat, waiting, and watching.
(Now.) Sydney.
She was dreaming. In all of her dreams, Sydney could hear. It had always been that way, since the accident. It was the only way she could stay sane. In the dream, everyone she had ever loved was standing there, arguing. She didn't mind, however. She was just glad to hear their voices. Tomi and Bill were there, as was her parents and old classmates. She could hear birds and cars and singing and laughter. She never wanted to wake up. Why should she? Here is was perfect. She could hear. Then, amidst all of the sounds, there was another, much clearer sound. "Oh, thank gott." And then some yelling that seemed to split her thoughts in two. Then everything went silent.

(Now.) Gustav.
Gustav sat up, rubbing his eyes. His back hurt in the worst way imaginable, and he stood from the strait backed chair to attempt a good stretch. This really only made it worse, and he stepped forward to try and catch himself as he winced from the pain, and ended up on his face instead. "what the?" He rolled over on his back and looked up. Tom was laying asleep on the floor, or was asleep until he had tripped over him. Tom sat up and glared at him, before scooting his rear end so that he was sitting up against Sydney's bed.
"You came back." Gustav said softly.
"Of course I came back, dickwad." Tom mumbled and bit down hard on his lip at the same time.
"I'm really sorry, Tom." It was more important to Gustav to mend his friendship now that he was looking right into Tom's face. It took him a moment, but he looked up at him and sighed, his brown eyes clearing a little bit.
"Its ok. Really. There is just a lot of ****. A lot." He put his head in his hands, and Gustav felt the need to reach out and put his hand on Tom's shoulder, and when he did, he was relieved to find that he didn't shove him off. The room grew quiet, and after a moment, Sydney moaned. Gustav looked up, at first just worried. Then it occured to him. She moaned. Noise. She had made noise.
(Now.) Tom.
He had snuck in sometime in the middle of the night and stared at Sydney who was unconscious, before collapsing in a miserable pile on the floor and falling asleep. He was a lot less angry when he woke up, however rudely it had been, and when Gustav had apologized for everything he had accepted. He needed his friend almost as much as he needed Bill, and no girl could change that. Sydney moaned, and in 2.5 seconds he was up and by her side. It was the first sound she had made since they had found each other and it almost put him in tears with excitement. He could tell Gustav was the same way and they sat on either side of her, looking down worriedly into her face. She moaned again.\
"Syd?" Tom practically squeaked it out. She stilled. Gustav looked up, surprised. "Say something again." Tom felt hope surge through his heart. Was this what a miracle looked like? "Sydney, Sydsyd. Come on, we need you here." Slowly, her eyes fluttered open. Tom nearly attacked her with a hug, but he held back, almost afraid. Gustav stood and was pacing around the room like an excited puppy, but Tom kept his usual cool. She blinked and looked up at him. A weak smile spread across her face. T...T...Tomi." She croaked. Her voice sounded hoarse. Like it hadn't been used in years. It hadn't been. Tears streamed down her face, Tom's, and Gustav's.
(Now.) Sydney.
Silence. It was something she was just so used to. Then suddenly, sound. Real sound. Words. Her head split with pain with every decibel, but she didn't care. She could hear them. It wasn't a dream. Then, a older sounding but familiar voice. Tomi. She forced herself awake. She had to. Coming to felt like pushing her way through a train wreck in progress, but it was worth it. She opened her mouth. A word tried to come out. She felt the vibrations, and she heard it. Tears threatened and spilled over and she wanted to leap from her bed and go shouting down the halls, but she couldn't move. She was in so much pain. Fear came over her that it would all go away, that she would lose it all over again, but two sets of strong arms wrapped around her at once and she felt safe. The familiar sounds of Tom's tones bled into her ears. The new sounds of Gustav's voice did the same. She felt loved. She loved them both. She was torn. She was happy. She was scared. She could hear.

(Now.) Tom
It was overwhelming to see Sydney open her eyes and say his name. To hear her. He was practically yelling to the entire hospital when he saw the pain in her eyes, and he realized her head probably hurt. Quieting down, he hugged her, then hugged Gustav, who looked like he was about to burst into a million little happy pieces. There was something about the way Gustav was reacting that made him hurt and feel relieved at the same time. He wondered what it was, but didn't think about it too much, because his Sydney could hear again. The nurse came rushing in at the ruckus and when everything was explained to her by Gustav and Tom interrupting each other constantly, she ushered them out to examine the girl. Tom felt like fighting her for time to ask Sydney a million questions, but let her drag him by his ear, whimpering the whole way.
Once out in the hallway, he and Gustav hugged again, patting each other on the back a little roughly and Tom called Bill immediately. When he picked up, he nearly squealed into the receiver. "SHE CAN HEAR!" People gave him odd looks and he cleared his throat, turning red and looking down at his saggy jeans. "What? Syd?" Bill sounded surprised and relieved, all at once. "She just woke up. She...she said my name." He felt himself choke up a little bit and gnawed on his lip ring. "Tomi, thats awesome! Bill replied. "I'm on my way." He hung up and took to pacing in front of the room.
(Now.) Gustav.
There was a lot of emotion involved in all of this, and Gustav felt elated and drained. He shot Georg a text message to tell him in the good news and then sat on the floor, heaving a sigh. Hearing Sydney speak for the first time was like hearing angels sing. Even if it was raspy and quiet, he was thrilled to hear her voice. His whole body shook with every emotion he could imagine. He was so happy, yet so sad. Tom loved her, and he loved his friend too much to take that away from him. He wondered how he could handle letting her go. It would be easier with going on tour. All the same, it didn't ease the ache in his heart that almost over ruled his eagerness to talk to her more. Finally, after watching Tom wear a pathway into the tile, they were allowed to go back into Sydney's room. Gustav stood slowly and walked into the room behind Tom, feeling almost nervous. She was asleep in the bed, breathing steadily, not the shallow breathing that she had been dealing with in her coma.
Her hearing must have been extremely acute by then, because as they shuffled into the room, she awoke and smiled at them. "How are you feeling?" Tom all but whispered to her. Gustav wanted to rush to her side and take her hand, but he held back and instead sat in the chair next to her bed. "Ok." She croaked. He voice was clearing just ever to slightly, but one could tell she was going to need speech therapy eventually. The room grew quiet and she finally lifted a hand and motioned him closer. Curious, Gustav stood and stepped closer. She motioned for him to lean over, and she croaked softly in his ear. "Do not be sad." He smiled and patted her cheek, provoking a smile. She was always so worried about everyone else's feelings besides her own. This was one reason why he loved her like he did. This all reminded him of the fact that he planned to pave the way for Tom, but he didn't let this show in his face.
(Now.) Sydney
The nurse rushed in and ushered the boys out only a moment later, and after gently questioning her, she gave her a strong dose of pain killer and allowed the two boys back into her room. She eased Tom's mind and then turned her tired eyes to Gustav. He looked so distracted and bothered that she began to worry that she was hurting him and called him over to cheer him up. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Tom tense up and then relax in his chair. There was so much to deal with now, but she couldn't think about it. She focused on trying to stay awake long enough to croak out a few short words. Bill and Georg came in just as she felt herself drifting off, and each other them gave her a single rose. She smiled softly and felt her eyes close.
It took them about a week to let her go home. She went through a lot of evaluations and scans and meetings with doctors, but the entire time one of the four boys stayed with her. Bill was the one who couldn't stop asking questions, which she tried to answer in as short of a way as she could. He hadn't changed much since they were young, and she didn't mind much. Gustav stayed by her side and quiet, while Tom would come and go, seeming restless. Finally, she was able to go and they all piled into Tom's Escalade to escort her back to Gustavs. The sound of the car engine and the world outside brought back memories she didn't know she had. As she closed her eyes and took every sound, Tom took her hand. She squeezed it tightly. It felt good to have such close friends around her.
Not the best chappie, I know, but things get better in the next one.

(Now.) Sydney
Being able to hear was like have a million Christmases all at once. Sydney escaped the quiet house a few times to sit by the river and listen to the people, the world, and nature. She was having a hard time speaking without her voice cracking, and it had started to frustrate her. This was one of those times she had slipped away. Tomorrow would be the first time in years she would hear Tomi and Billa do what they do best, at a concert. The twins had been arguing over the TV remote for a good half and hour and she had started to get one of her familiar headaches and had to slip away. It had been two weeks since she had regained her hearing, and the first week Tom had stayed close to her side. Then, slowly, he had begun to disappear nights and come back smelling of sex like the days not long ago, and she had gone back to hurting.
Gustav appeared at her side, and sat down on the bench next to her. "Hey Syd." He said softly, tilting his head back and looking up at the moon, which had just risen. "You ok?" He asked after a moment, looking at her, tilting his head, making her blush. "I..." She searched for the right words. Turning to face him, she folded her legs under herself Indian style. "Tom loves me. Yet, he doesn't." Her voice was still so quiet and she felt one tear slide down her cheek. Gustav reached up and wiped it away.
(Now.) Gustav
Since Syd was able to hear, Gustav worried more than ever. When she slipped off again, and so late, he left Bill and Tom to annoy Georg and followed her down to the shoreline. He wanted to wrap his arms around her and tell her everything was going to be ok, but he reminded himself of Tom, and simply comforted her by wiping away a tear. "He loves you." Gustav winced inwardly at his words, and could feel his heart breaking at the words. He wanted happiness for the two of them, and if that meant him stepping down, he would. "Not if he comes home smelling like sex." Her voice cracked on every single word, but he had come to love that about her, just like everything else. Her words made him stop to think. He hadn't realized that with everything Tom was still sleeping around. A fleeting feeling of annoyance found him but he pushed it out. He knew that was just the way Tom was, and he had grown used to it.
Chewing on his lip, he fought the urge to hold her once more. Somehow, she beat him to it, and buried her face in his chest. He stiffened, warning signs going up in his mind, but he relaxed after a moment and wrapped his arms around her, feeling his whole body catch on fire. "You....love me." She said, so softly he almost couldn't hear her. His whole body started to shake involuntarily, and he barely nodded. How could she do this to him? He was supposed to be moving on, not falling harder. She pulled away, and he was torn between pulling her back and being glad she had. She put her face inches from his, looking deep into his eyes, unwavering. He could fell her breath soft on his nose and he never stopped shaking. Why was something so wrong the one thing he wanted more than anything? Then, as if they both just KNEW, their lips met. She put her hands on his face and he exhaled, their breathing coming heavier. Tom didn't know what he was losing, but suddenly, Gustav didn't care.
(Now.) Tom
After fighting with Bill for a good hour with Georg glaring at them silently, he finally checked his four text messages. The hot girl from the other night, their last concert. Instantly growing excited, he shot her a text back and lept up. "Going to find Syd?" Bill asked, kicking his shoes off and putting his feet up on the couch where Tom had been sitting. He shrugged, not wanting to give anything away and left. Walking to the hotel which was just down the street, Tom felt the pain seep back into his stomach. He wondered how Gustav was doing, and considered talking to him. He had been spending a lot of time trying to give Tom and Syd space, he could tell, and he wondered if Gustav was over Sydney.
The girl, Sarah, met him at her door and covered his mouth with hers. She was tiny and curvy and his hands slid up her sides, making him shudder. She pulled him into her room and he pushed her onto the bed, forgetting Sydney. At least for the moment.

Sydney sat on her bed and stared at the open box in front of her. She chewed her lip and stared at the poster, teddy bear, and letter that had come inside. It almost annoyed her than Tomi would bother to send her a POSTER of him. She had plenty of pictures of just him.
He had been on tour now for 4 months, but the taunting did not stop. She had changed schools, but still the girls from her old school followed her home and beat her. It was horrible, and her family was planning on moving. She had received his package and flew to her room to open it, only to be slightly disappointed. He wasn't the boy she remembered. He knew her better than this.
(Now.) Sydney
Sydney lay her head on Gustav's chest, burrowing closer to him under the covers. He awoke slowly, looked down at her and slowly put his arm around her. Closing her eyes, she tried to remember a time she had been this happy, but failed miserably. Gustav had lifted her into his arms and taken her home. Bill was asleep on the couch and Georg had been playing the Wii, and Gustav had marched right by them to her bedroom. She had covered his face in tiny little kisses. He flushed red and sat down next to her as she curled up, and took her hand, stroking it gently with his thumb. After a few moments of silence, he had stood to leave, but she held fast to his hand. "Stay." He had hesitated, but then slipped off his shoes and his shirt and slipped under the covers next to her, both of them falling asleep soon there after.
Now that it was morning, and the sun filtered through the blinds, Sydney wondered why Gustav hadn't tried to take advantage of her. She was greatful, however. This boy was proving to her more and more every day that he cared for her, and she didn't want that to be ruined. He buried his face in her hair and inhaled. "Has anyone ever told you that you are beautiful?" She sat up on one elbow and looked into his gentle face. "...No" She smiled a little and laid back down. The alarm went off and she jumped. She was still getting used to sudden noises. Grunting, Gustav sat up and turned it off, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and rubbing his face. Sydney stood up on the other side of the bed and stretched. Today she would get to hear the boys for the first time.
(Now.) Tom
Tom left the hotel room in a rush and was still adjusting his hat as he walked down the sidewalk. They had soundcheck in 45 minutes and he needed to get back to his place and shower beforehand so he didn't smell like sex. After getting out of the shower, he dialed Gustav's number and asked to talk to Syd. "After the concert, want to get a bite?" He kind of missed her and was hoping she would miss him too. "Uh...yeah." She said it quietly, but she sounded like she wanted to. Happy, he hung up and headed out to the soundcheck.
Looking down at Sydney as he played his Gibson on stage, he flushed red with glee as she smiled up at him, wide eyed and obviously impressed. He winked and she matched his red cheeks with hers. Bill was thrilled to have his childhood friend there to cheer them on, and pulled her on stage for monsoon, which she loved. Georg kissed her cheek in a loving brotherly way. Tom was proud of her, the little thing that had become nearly a woman. She stayed in the front row, taking it all in. Hearing for the first time was something else all together, he could see, and even more so hearing music she had watched become reality years before for the first time was a miracle.
After the concert, Tom didn't bother to sign autographs but took Sydney's hand and they walked to a local diner that was famous for its creme puffs. Buying two, they sat in a booth and they nibbled away at the giant treats. Watching her, he wondered if he really did love her. There was a part of him that remembered the little girl from so long ago and loved her, and the other part of him was trying to find out how he felt about the woman she was becoming. She giggled as she tried to eat the treat without making a mess, and he smiled softly, before making a decision. He just needed to know. Leaning across the booth, he took her chin in his hand and kissed her soft lips. He felt himself shiver a little bit and wondered if that was love. He felt that way with other girls, but maybe....just maybe this was different. "Tom...I..." She sputtered, biting her lip and sitting back in her seat. "Nein, don't speak." He whispered.
Walking back in silence to his house, he took her hand and tried to get her to smile. It worked as he made a fool of himself with funny faces. Once inside, she settled on the couch, picking up a few DVD's to look through. "Lets watch this." She croaked, holding up 40 first dates. Tom shrugged and put it in, sitting down next to her and putting an arm around her shoulders. About 20 minutes into the movie he couldn't take it any longer. Brushing a finger over her soft cheek, he kissed her neck. Pulling away, she squealed. "Tomi!" Her voice cracked, and it made her cuter. "Please, I just need to know if I love you." He said into her neck. "But-" He stopped her with his tongue, and after a tense moment, she allowed him to kiss her. Pushing her down on the couch, he breathed her in.
Sydney was asleep before Tom. He lay awake, staring at the ceiling in the dark, wondering what was happening to him. Looking over at the sleeping girl, wrapped up in blankets, he realized something. Something that made his stomach churn. This was Sydney, his childhood sweet heart, a girl he loved, loved very deeply. Yet there was something else. He loved her in the way a boy would love a girl, not a man would love a woman. He realized that he would always love her that way, and here he had just taken her innocence. One tear slid down his cheek, and he smoothed her hair. She rolled over next to him and sighed in her sleep. "Gustav..." She just barely whimpered the name as she dreamed. Tom knew then what he had to do.

(Now.) Sydney
Sydney awoke with a start. She blinked and sputtered a little as she came to and looked over at a sleeping Tom. As everything began to focus she realized what had happened. Instantly tears slid from her cheeks and she had a miniature panic attack. What had she done? Gustav was the only one she had ever wanted. She had been blinded by the fact that Tomi was her trusted childhood friend and now she was going to lose him. She rolled off the couch onto the floor and stood weakly, feeling like she was going to throw up. Tom sat up behind her, and just as her legs buckled, he caught her and hold her tightly as she sobbed. She could feel his own body wrack with sobs, and she felt herself hurt worse, which she couldn't imagine was possible.
When she stopped shaking and the tears subsided, she pulled away from Tom and looked into his blood shot eyes. "I....don't love you." She whispered. It was like taking a knife and stabbing it into her own heart. "I don't love you either." Tom choked out, refusing to make eye contact. "You don't remember what happened, do you?" Sydney asked. Her voice was clear for the first time. "What do you mean?" Tom looked up at her. "Why we stopped seeing each other as kids." Tom squinted and shook his head slowly. "You invited me to a concert, remember? Then afterwards, just when I was coming back stage, I saw you with a girl. You came after me...and kissed me. I told you I couldn't do it anymore." She spoke softly. Realization came over Tom's face and he bit his lip ring in thought. "You will always be a sister to me." He said after a moment, taking her hands in his. "Tom, you have ALWAYS been that boy. The one I could trust. Even if you have hurt me, I will always look up to you." Tom heaved a sigh and pulled her into a hug, and Sydney felt relief rush over her. "We have to talk to Gustav." All relief was gone.
(Now.) Gustav
Gustav hadn't worried too much about Sydney, knowing that she was not going to run off again, and so he had gone to bed, expecting her to be home come morning. When she wasn't there when he awoke, he felt his stomach drop, and he began to worry. He picked up his cell and pressed speed dial 1, Bill. "Is Syd over there?" "Ja...." Bill spoke hesitantly. "Oh good, do you know when she is coming home?" Gustav asked. Bill grew silent on the other end of the phone. "Bill?" There was talking in the background and he heard someone take the phone. "Gustav?" It was Syd. He smiled into the phone at her voice, which had cleared up beautifully. "Yea?" She sighed into the phone. "Can you come over here?" She sounded like she had been crying. Worried, Gustav agreed and hung out, practically flying out the door.
Once at Bill and Tom's, Gustav straitened himself up and knocked. Bill answered, looking a little shaken and smiled his best at Gustav, which made things worse. Walking inside, he saw Tom and Sydney sitting at the kitchen table looking like they had just committed treason and his heart sank. Tom had his head in his hands and Sydney was clinging to a cup of coffee like it was her job. Sitting down slowly next to Sydney, he looked from one to the other. "What's going on?" He was almost too afraid to ask. Tom looked up like he hadn't known Gustav was even there and swallowed hard. "Hey." It was a random thing to say. "Uhm, hi. Is someone going to tell me or what?" Tom looked at Sydney then at Gustav. "Uhm...we...I..." Gustav felt himself growing sicker by the moment.
"Gustav." Sydney turned to him, finally letting go of the coffee and took both his hands in hers. She had been crying. "I am in love with you." She spoke softly, her eyes filling. His stomach lept at her words and he couldn't understand why this made her sad. "I...am in love with you too, Syd." He said in reply, confused but happy that the words were finally spoken. Kissing his lips softly, Bill and Tom looked on. Fire shot through him and he brushed away her tears, hands on her cheeks. "I...messed up last night." She said, and Gustav froze. "WE messed up. Gustav...she loves you...and I realized that you and she belong together, because I can't love her like you can." Tom spoke up now, his jaw working, his eyes full of fear. Gustav broke away from Sydney and stood, knocking the chair he was sitting in over and nearly running into Bill. "What?! You tell me you are in love with me and then...How could you?!" Gustav could feel bile rise in this throat and he shook from head to toe. "It wasn't right...Gustav...I am so so sorry...I love you..." Sydney stood and walked towards him. "THEN PROVE IT!" He yelled. His heart shattered and he tore from the house. Why did things have to keep happening like this?! Why couldn't he just be happy?! His phone started to ring. He pressed ignore and shut it off. This was way too much.

(Now.) Tom
Tom felt like the worlds biggest ***. He had hurt his best friend, disappointed his twin, and hurt someone else he loved. It took twenty minutes for him and Bill to convince Sydney to stay put so that Tom could go look for Gustav. He left her whimpering in Bill's shoulder and made his way across town. He kept dialing his cell, though he knew he would just get Gustav's voice mail every time. He practically had it memorized by that time.
"Hey, its Gustav, I might be at a show, I might be on the bus, I might be in your dreams. Whatever it may be, leave a message."
It had been funny the first time Tom had heard it, but now it made him sick to his stomach. He had ruined that humorous boy, he had hurt that happy go lucky kid he knew so well. Stopping at Gustav's apartment, he pounded on the door for ten minutes before the neighbor came out and yelled at him. He retreated from the red faced old woman and found himself out on the streets. A clap of thunder resounded over Berlin and he looked up only to get burning rain in his eyes. Looking down and rubbing his eyes, he felt his skin grow chilled and his clothes soak through, and it made him feel as if it was something he deserved.
He kept on walking, and when he finally looked up from his squishing shoes he found himself standing in the middle of the local park. The rain was coming down harder now and he tried to find solace under a tree, but that didn't help much. His tears started to mix with the rain, when he saw him, sitting on the bridge, soaked to the bone.
(now.) Gustav
He had thought that the park was a safe place to get away from them. Sydney wouldn't want him anymore since she had Tom and most likely the only person that would come after him was Georg, if he had even heard what was going on. He didn't care if he was wet, he hoped it gave him a cold and killed him. He was just about to go home when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Turning, he found himself face to face with the traitor himself, dreads sticking to his cheeks, eyes bloodshot. "What do you want?!" He stood and put a shoulder to the rain. "I want you to know the truth." Tom yelled after him, grabbing him and spinning him around. Furious, Gustav rammed forward and knocked Tom to the ground. He pinned his arms. "DO YOU THINK I WANT TO HEAR IT?!" He let go and stood, shaking. Tom didn't seem to want to give up, and came after him again.
"WHY do you think we even told you? She loves YOU. Not me." Gustav spun and his eyes met with Tom's through the rain. "If she loved me, why did she sleep with you." Gustav could hardly choke out the words. Tom looked down at his feet and then back up at him. "It was my fault. I played on the fact that she was my childhood sweetheart for my own selfish desires. Its NOT her fault, Gustav." Tom started to cry again. "She wants you to be the one." Gustav felt like his whole world was shrinking down to this one moment. He didn't know what kind of decision he should make. He looked at Tom closely, looked into his eyes that were hurting and genuine, something he never saw in this man he had come to know better than almost anyone. His mind was slowly clearing, and he took a deep breath. Stepping through the rain, he pulled his friend into a hug. After a moment, Tom returned the hug. Warmth through the rain flooded through him.
(Now.) Sydney
Bill held her tight as she stained his shirt with tears. She clung to the lanky boy who had been a friend for as long as she could remember and felt herself collapse inside. An hour, then two passed and Bill refused to let go. Georg snuck in and brought her a glass of milk and cookies, which she left untouched until she saw how hurt his expression was and and took a cookie to nibble on. When she thought she was going to die from the heartbreak, the door opened. All three of them lept to their feet in a split second, and Sydney felt her heart sink when she saw Tom walk in, dripping water all over the floor. He looked at them, took a deep breath, and then managed a small smile. Stepping around him, Gustav looked down at his feet and the rim of his hat dripped just as much as the rest of him. Sydney gasped and her hands flew to her mouth. After a moment, Gustav looked up at her. He lifted his arms from his sides and looked up at her. Every bone in her body felt like it had just been set on fire and she flew the five feet into his arms. Her clothing soaked through in his arms but she didn't care. Tom, Bill, and Georg slipped passed them, and they were left standing in the doorway by themselves, wrapped up in each other.
"I thought you would never talk to me again." Sydney choked out. "I am so-" Gustav pulled back and put his finger to her lips. "This is the one time that I don't want you to speak." He studied her eyes and smiled gently. Slowly, she reached up and pulled off his cap, still dripping, and then leaned in, her lips meeting his. An indescribable feeling drifted through their bodies and she put her hands on his face. Pulling her closer, he kissed her again, this time deeper. After a moment, he put his nose to hers. "Syd?" She opened her eyes. "Ja?" Gustav took a deep breath. "I love you." She smiled softly, and kissed him once again. "Those are the best words I have ever heard."
