I'm musically stupid, so I have ask, does this opera orchestra mean a real orcestra? I assume it does? If so, I'm very excited! Sounds really cool.

When this festival is going to be? I tried to search the dates from the web, but all I could founf was dates around 15-20th February?

Wow, do you know Sonohra?
I had no clue they were internationally known.
Elisa... After The U.s. got to know her thanks to "So you think you can dance" I was sooo happy. I'm italian but there are a few italian singers I like, and she's defenetively one of them... and she sings in english most of the time, so I was like "It was about time!".
I know she made a little tour in America last year, but I don't know anything else.

Sanremo.

The Sanremo festival is a big big competition.
I think this year is like the 60th edition.
In Italy, despite the critics, is usually followed by 10/12 millions people (sometime more, sometime less), we are about 60 millions, so it's a lot, and it's also aired internationally, so it's a good chance to reach a lot of people. I personally don't like it, but in the latest years they have been trying to make it more likeable to young people, because it could be veeeery boring.
Well, I'm gonna watch the show with TH, and I'm sure you're gonna find videos on the net! :-)

Singers in the competition always perform with the orchestra, but sometime guests sing in playback.
Well, if the say TH are gonna be performing with the orchestra, they must be.
And yes, Italy love TH, that's why they have 4 concerts planned, I guess...

And you defenetively must check Elisa Toffoli out, she's been around since... 1996... :P
Sorry... It's just, I think she's sooo good!

Hey, this is coming up soon!

Is there anything new from this? Is it the same day as Kerli is performing in Hollywood, which is 19th?

I really, realy wish they do their performanmce with live orchestra and not play-back, but as we know, it's alwaus a possibility. It would be total  if they'd perform Strange there just like Kerli is doing in Hollywood.

I tried to look something for this one, but it's difficult to figure out anything...

Anyways, few things mentioned on internet (google-translations)...

"Friday
The penultimate evening sees the young Tokio Hotel one of the latest boy band on the music scene and DJ Bob Sinclair who has successfully done with various Tormentoni all summer and not to dance. The beauty of the evening will, however, Gabriel Garko."
From: http://www.amando.it/tempo-libero/musica/ultime-novita-da-sanremo-2010.html

"Friday 'will' the time of Tokio Hotel, who will perform with the San Remo Festival Orchestra."
From: http://www.agi.it/spettacolo/notizie/201001271447-spe-rt10173-festival_sanremo_robbie_williams_e_tokio_hotel_tra _gli_ospiti

"Tokio Hotel (Bill Kaulitz, Tom Kaulitz, Georg Listing and Gustav Schaefer) will be present for the first time as superguests 2010 International Edition of the Festival di Sanremo!
The band, now reality of fame and worldwide success, will perform on the historic stage of the Ariston Friday 19 February and will propose to the Italian orchestra's second single "World Behind My Wall" from the album "Humanoid" already platinum in Italy!
Tokio Hotel are already preparing to give the Italian public exhibition to remember! "
From: http://festival.blogosfere.it/2010/01/i-tokio-hotel-superospiti-a-sanremo-2010-la-band-tedesca-per-la-prima-volta-sul-palco-del-teatro-ari.html

I tried to find out anything from italian fan club forum, but I was too busy to try to translate everything, so... Apparently they are discussing right now that thewir presence on a rede carpet has not been confirmed yet.

I still wish to find out if this is possible to see online or something

The Kaulitz brothers are smokin’

Heartbreaking brothers Tom and Bill Kaulitz made their arrival into the Nice airport in France earlier today. If you are wondering why the stars from Tokio Hotel are looking so tan, its because they just wrapped up their holiday in the Maldives where they were photographed on the beach.

The band which counts Bill Kaulitz as lead vocalist, Tom Kaulitz on guitar, Georg Listing on bass and Gustav Schäfer on drums, are set to kick off their European tour which includes a stop at the San Remo Festival in Italy on February 19th.

They will also perform in Luxembourg, Rotterdam, Brussels, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Moscow, Prague, and many more! Check out their website here for the full tour listing.

Oh, Hello there Mr. super-sexy Francisco Lachowski. Fancy seeing you here.

On topic: I'm actually super relieved that the twin's outfits aren't ridiculous or over the top. Bill's jacket looks awesome, and Tom keeps his style. Win-win-win all around.

And now that Ray pointed out the pants that Fran so wonderfully modeled, it makes them that much sexier. Can't wait to see what they look like on Bill's legs, though.

His singing got better towards towards the end. It started raspy, but the basic singing got better. He could have a minor cold, not prepaired properly, nervous, anything, but I don't think we should be worried. We'll see how the next week goes and worry after that, okay?

JustBored
February 19th, 2010, 08:09 PM
Something was wrong with the sound, or the mixing, or whatever. You could barely hear the orchestra... Very bad... Not their fault though.
Bill voice was... what's the english for that? We say "cold". Maybe he didn't do his voice exercises well. In fact toward the end it was getting better...
The tv direction was ugly, it took like way tooo long to have a close-up... I have seen the entire show and it wasn't that bad.
Something strange was going on... So disappointing...
By the way... Maybe Bill was a little nervous, 10 millions people, more or less, were watching. Less than ema's, but the ema's performance was playback. You can always tell. Bill moves a lot more when he's singin in playback. I have no problem with it, I don't think it's safe to play, more than sing, while the instruments are on fire, so they had to do it playback...

mrs.tomkaulitz1101
February 19th, 2010, 08:23 PM
I'm sure Bill's voice will be fine for the Humanoid Tour... I'm not really worried. Plus my mom smokes... And I can tell you that she smoked WAY longer then Bill.... And my mom can hold the notes long and she doesn't sound like she has kindof a cold... He was probably nervous.

I thought it was lovely. Yes, it wasn't 100% perfect, but it's Bill performing live. Bill has never been 100% perfect live, and I have t admit that's one of the things I like about him. He's always a a little nasal, a little flat, and sometimes doesn't hold notes just right. It's endearing and goes to show that he's a real, imperfect person behind all the glamor.

The outfit he had on was interesting, too. I bet he's having a lot of fun working with designers for this tour, considering his zeal to have a clothing line (hasn't he been talking about that for the last two years at least?). Working with Dan and Dean to design these outfits must be an absolute dream come true, and after looking at the Humanoid City Tour thread, and seeing how much he's beaming there, I have to believe it all the more. :)

He looked really nervous which is unusual for him, every performance I've seen on youtube he looks confident and playful and puts energy into it. I hate to be a debbie downer, but this perfomance really is the worst I've seen from them. It was flat and bland, had no personality and his singing was bad. He does sound like a smoker and I was thinking maybe that has something to do with where he had vocal surgery, maybe because he has had voice problems his throat and voice and everything is more sensitive, so smoking affects him worse than it would someone at that age. For the past year his voice has sounded raspy and strange and Tokio Hotel as a whole seemed to be missing their spark..something is just off about them lately, and I think fans pick that up, we can feel the vibes ya know?

I've never thought Tokio Hotel was exceptional or extremely amazing at what they do..I think they are a pretty average band to be honest..none of them are really extraordinary at their instruments and Bill to me does not have a great voice..specially for ballads and slower songs, but for rock his voice suits nicely bc he is able to sing louder and harder. What makes them so noticeable and successful I think is bc they have SOMETHING, well they did, some kind of spark that draws people to them and their lyrics have great meaning and they all seemed to put everything they have into what they do.

It's just lately for me they all seem tired and sick of it...I fear they are getting sick of being a band :( but they have said no so hopefully that is true. It just feels so weird to watch them look lifeless and not give their best and they seemed cold and detached in this performance. I hope it has to do with nerves, and the fact that they hadn't been on stage for awhile.

I am really looking forward to seeing some videos from their concerts though!

I also said earlier that I thought Bill was at his worst tonight. The band has been rehearsing for the tour in London. So, I don't think his lackluster performance was due to inactivity. Something was way off during the San Remo performance. I could barely hear the orchestra. I was expecting more. But, TH has to perform tomorrow and the tour starts on Monday. I've seen the guys live before and I know they are capable of so much more. Can't wait to see how the band will bring it on stage.

Hopefully they do better tomorrow. I just don't think Bill's voice is cut out for these slow ballad type of songs, he either ends up screaming them harshly or he can't really carry the melody..he sounds a lot better on rock/fast tempo songs.

hahaha I know we can't be sure as to why Bill didn't seem to do as well as he has before and blame it totally on smoking... but I just feel the need to talk about this right now since it was brought up haha...

I've always been very disappointed Bill continued to smoke after getting vocal surgery.

the old lead singer of my old favorite band that I was just as involved in as I am with Tokio Hotel got a vocal node and had to get surgery for it at around age 18 just like Bill did. and then a month later I saw a picture of him SMOKING at some party and other pictures of him smoking. and I was shocked as to why a professional singer would start smoking so soon after a freaking throat surgery (and it shocks me that they smoke at all haha!). I mean... it doesn't sound like a smart thing to do to me at least. it gave me the impression that he didn't care enough and wasn't taking good care of his voice. and I guess I was right because he ended up getting ANOTHER node and more throat problems about a year later. so quite a few tours ended up getting canceled and they lost money and there were problems and the lead singer just ended up leaving.

I've seen it happen once and I really hope I do not see it happen again. argh. Bill better be taking good care of that voice of his that's all I gotta say. and I would advise him to try to quit smoking. but it seems like he doesn't care. *sigh*

Well something has totally changed his voice..his speaking voice AND singing voice just in the past year. Either smoking or maybe he is having trouble with cysts again or something? It's obvious he sounds different though..and not really in a good way :(

The thing I liked most about it all: It wasn't playback.

Seriously, as much as I rage at the 'new Bill' (DO NOT comment on this, I'm NOT here to start that crap) and 'new sound' and everything, I have no real qualms about this performance. It was truly live, and for that, I'm happy.

And, I love Bill's pants. mostly because Francisco Lachowski modeled them. Hee

And, I got a few silly screenshots and pictures from it to giggle at. And, Bill's mess-ups in english.

All in all, I'd say it was a decent performance. Sure, Bill sounded a little rusty and off, but whatever. They've been busy, they've got the face of a huge tour (at least hype-wise) staring them down. Whatevs, let it all slide.

It was always about the music with me. The looks were a huge bonus. I wouldn't wait hours on line to hear the band play if I didn't appreciate the music. It's just that even though there are tons of nice San Remo pics of the guys available now. I'm not so excited over them b/c I was expecting the performance to be stellar. But, I have 2+ months of concert performances to look forward to! From what I've seen personally, I know TH can deliver an awesome concert experience; even if they have a a couple of not so great sessions here and there.

========================================

@Lynelle: Inconsistency could be one of those reasons.

They just don't seem into it anymore..they are missing their spark or something. I hope they get it back for the concerts. It's really just so odd to see them all seem kinda bummed and not into what they are doing anymore. I wonder what happened to them in the past year? Well, we only notice Bill and Tom more I guess bc they are in the press more, I wonder how the G's feel? In this video they both looked bummed too. I know they are growing older and maturing but they are only 20 years old...and even at age 18 and 19 they were funny and outgoing and seemed to really have a passion and drive for what they were doing. It seems they have no passion anymore or something.

ok, let's just say this.
they ARE human.
they HAVE good shows AND bad shows.
they just need to get their concert mojo back, and it will probably come back. Maybe they're doubting the Humaniod cd, maybe they're 200% nervous for the tour they have been working at for how long? There are hundreds and hundreds of reasons.
let's just see how the Humaniod City tour goes. When they come here to the US to the Humaniod Ghetto[lol] maybe they will be like themselves again from the European tour. Funny, sarcastic, and everything we like about them.

Y'alls are a bunch of Downer Debbie's, ain'tcha?

I liked this performance. Yes, it wasn't perfect. Yes, Bill sounded a little off in places. But, you know, I would rather a performance with a couple of glitches and wrong notes than playback. Imperfections make it real. I like the boys so so so much more when they're REAL. If I wanted Bill to be spot on, pitch perfect and flawless, I'd just listen to the CD.

As to them seeming 'depressed' or 'lethargic' or whatever...didn't anyone notice what song they performed? WBMW isn't exactly an up and bouncy song. If they were bounding around that stage like hyper active puppies it would have just been WEIRD. They were still grinning. Tom and Georg still shoved their strings together for the masses. Bill acted the song as much as the tempo would allow. The performance fit the song. Now, had they been so languid performing, say, RSG or Break Away, then that would have seemed off to me. Those songs are a MILLION times more 'up' than WBMW.

Perhaps it's just me, but watching the video for WBMW and watching this performance, they seem pretty similar when it comes to the projected energy levels.

It's not just this performance..overall for the past year they haven't seemed like their usual selves..or at least like the boys from TH that we have come to know. They seem grey to me..lifeless and dull or something, I can't really explain what I mean, but hopefully someone understands what I am trying to say.

and i also sort of agree with hugsnotdrugs[idk your name, sorry]. Like in interviews they have to watch what they say more or something. They just got to watch their moves&what they're saying. They...haven't really been around for the past year. We've gotten a whopping, what, 4-5 performances out of them, and that's been in the last at LEAST 12 months.

Those boys dealt with a LOT of crap over the last year. A LOT. It would only make sense for them to come off a little different after all of it. Plus, before, they were on tour practically non stop. Now they haven't been on tour at all in the last year. Put them back on stage, get them back in their domain, and I would bet that we'll have the exact same bright and bubbly kids that we know and love back. They just need to get back 'home', and that's in front of the crowd doing what they love.

After all, you take a fish out of water, and it's not going to do very well. That's where they are right now.

Also, if you think about this situation logically, they have a huge tour coming up in 2 days. This tour they have been planning and organizing for a while. There probably nervous and even maybe a little worried about all the things they are responsible for during this huge tour. I can undertsand if they had a lot on their mind. It's like when I found out I had to make a speech infront of lots of students at my school. I was freaked 2 days before because everything seemed to be going wrong and I was responsible for so much. I literally had nothing else on my mind. But, when it was over and down with I was cool. This performance to me was not that bad. I finally saw a NON- playback which was nice  so, yeah, their performance was alright, they all looked amazing and I give em props for even being able to actually perfom knowing that their probably having freak attacks about thier tour that starts in 2 days. :]

Looking past the off variations in volumes of the voices and instruments, this was LIVE and it felt live even watching on YouTube from home. Bill connected and the band had energy.

It wasn't perfect but I liked it because it wasn't playback. We got to hear Bill's accent :D And we got to see some Torg!!
I also don't like Bill smoking but I don't think it had anything to do with their performance. I think he was just nervous.

The only error I found in the performance was a sound problem. The back up couldn't sing with Bill in parts or be heard for the chorus.

I will keep this in mind the next time they decide to use playback at an event. This is why many performers don't play live at these things - no control over the sound!

ray_ray2384
February 20th, 2010, 01:42 AM

Okay, I slept 1,5 hrs and woke up. I'm exhausted and still ****** and everything negative, but I try to make something which makes somehow sense.

Bill is not Celine Dion and I'm sure we know that. Bill's imperfections make him human and I enjoyed the show. Well, as long as I started to get impression that I shouldn't. Bill sounded a bit hoarse, but if we look back and listen their acoustic sessions, hasn't he been the whole year? The sound mixing was terrible there. It wasn't perfect or at near of their best, but it was okay. And it was live after all, they took a risk to perform live under those circumstances. I respect that!

My point is that at this point I think it's very important to suppoort them and to count on them. 2009 was a very hard year for them, like Gaja said, and we hope 2010 will be way better. Let's concentrate on supporting instead of shooring down? Of course we can critizise and we should, but I'm sure the boys are actually very nervous and terrified right now. They have to start again something they haven't done in a long time and under terrible pressures. If they are always nervous before the shows, I bet, they are now that times hundred. I hope we keep supporting and encouraging them and count on them to make a good tour.

I'm still looking forward to see them. Maybe even more than before.

Celine Dion? Random, but ok.
Call me crazy, but I actually like it when they don't perform perfectly. It shows to me that they are actually playing live, and they that are human after all. We all make mistakes, can we expect them not to? All I can say to those of you who criticize their work on stage, to go up there and do it yourselves. I agree with Amdee very much on this subject, and that we should support them now more than ever. They are under a lot of stress and pressure, and having a sturdy backing is what's best for them. Sure, you can criticize all you want, but put yourself in their shoes while/before you do it.

Anyways, Amdee, you're going to see them? *Is jealous* I hope you have fun! (And tell us all about it of course )

I don't think it's a tragedy.
I'm sorry because it could have been good publicity, more on less 10 millions people in Italy watching, plus around the world, because Sanremo is aired internationally, so... But I really think it's not their fault. The audio mixing was sooo bad.
After writing here, I went back to see the video I recorded from tv, so I started "fixing the mixing" :P on my tv, you know... with a decent television you can do that, and at a certain point it was better, the orchestra was lauder and stuff.
Bill wasn't perfect here and there, but it does happen live, to anyone, more or less, and I still think that with a good audio mixing those imperfections would have been totally acceptable.

P.S. Jennyfer Lopez was playback if you're interested...

Yes, she performed twice. The first was a new single, if I'm not wrong, followed by a long interview, and then she made a sort of medley of her songs. Maybe she's promoting the new single or maybe it was just because the host like her and wanted her to be there...

Basically....anything can happen! I understand that. I'm a fan who calls it like it is. If fans don't like the criticism that comes from fellow fans. They certainly will not like the critics' views on Tokio Hotel's performances. Tokio Hotel will make mistakes, learn and move on. Continue to make mistakes and learn over and over again. Some people will notice them and make comments. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I believe Bill is harder on himself than any fan or critic can be. He is a perfectionist.

I actually was not gonna comment on this because i dont like to get involved in negative comments when it comes to artists out of respect for how hard their craft is but couldnt hold back anymore;) I was more disappointed with the audio mixing and how long it took to get started than with Bill. The way some of you were commenting I was expecting way worse. Not their best performance but there were a lot of factors that played into it, including nerves, im sure. Im also sure being as self critical as Bill is that he is feeling horribly about this and will work on whatever he needs to work on to make things better. I love them and support them, and will not judge them or criticize them because of one off performance. And before some of you go off, yes, you can express your opinion all you want. I'm just stating mine. So I wont comment negatively because negativity can grow into, well something even more negative. Lmao, that made no sense ,I know but it's early. @Amdee: I wasn't offended at all!

@Deja I know what you were trying to do. That statement I made was a general feeling I had yesterday.

====================================

Well, it looks like there were problems yesterday with the event:

Sanremo, the day after: in our minds we still have yesterday’s wonderful performance, and again, the umpteenth proof of the love they get from the numerous Italian fans that came from all over Italy.
The only knotty point was RAI’s disrespectful behavior towards the band: the performance kept being pushed back ‘til the last minute (A/N: they came on stage one hour later as planned) and finally happened after midnight (causing more than few issues to the band and especially to the young viewer from home (A/N: probably because Saturday is a school day in Italy)). And that’s not all: without a reason they cancelled the short interview that the host was supposed to do, the direction forgot to show Tom during the whole performance, they had been technical problems with the preparation of the instruments, with the logo on the screen and Gustav’s drums had been settled on stage in the wrong way.
The point is, a very scandalous treatment for the most famous artists worldwide that walked on the Ariston stage.
If you agree with the fact that this behavior is unbearable, we invite you to write a letter to the Festival’s redaction, writing a mail of protest at festivaldisanremo@rai.it
Speak up!

Well, seems as if there were organisatory problems but I don't think they intentionally wanted to give TH a hard time.
I won't joint the the hunt for the scapegoat!

I'd like to quote Gustav at this point:"If mistakes happen on stage that's rock'n'roll."

I don't think the performance was that bad and am stilll happy that it was live!
I never expect perfection otherwise I couldn't be a fan of TH!

That quote made me feel really bad for the boys. Being part of the fandom, its easy to 4get all the negativity towards the band but now iv just realised its still out there. They don't get a break, nothing ever runs smoothly with them. Hmph, i bet Beyonce doesnt get that kind of treatment... lol but thats showbizniz for ya.

Ah well, they'll still rock out their tour like nobodys buisness, im tempted to hustle a last minute ticket and jump on the Eurostar to Paris, but iv seen 'Taken'... LMAO!... =/

HA! I love that movie!

But pretty much so yeah. It seems like everybody and their brother is trying to take down TH.

Sounds like the Refs from all the SU games. The guys can play completely fair and awesome, but there will always be the ones trying the take them from the top where they belong.

Hey! Do you questions my knowledge of the words of GUSTAV?

Yes, because Gustav does not speak. He only speaks on the day of the equinox, when the sun is highest in the sky and the Indian chief, AngryTiger blows the tribal horn, signaling that it's time for Gustav to speak. Once he does, that is it. We must wait for the next equinox.

Oh I love how random that is

But he spoke once upon a time. On the 19th of October in the year 2009. When asked a question, the all mighty Gustav answered. He said, 'Yes, I am a black ninja'

*Still loves that, and will never forget it *

If that article is true, that explains why the boys didn't look so enthusiastic on stage. The sound was horrible and you couldn't hear the orchestra AT ALL. And on top of that, Bill didn't sing at his best and made some mistakes.

Bill may not be the best singer but I know he can sing pretty d*mn well. Like a lot of people have said already, we all have our good and not so good days and yesterday was a not so good for Bill. He may have been nervous, upset, disappointed, etc., at the treatment towards them and that possibly affected his singing.

Nonetheless, the majority of the time the band does an amazing job and Bill is awesome singing live so, 1 bad performance out of many doesn't look too bad to me.

ok so I just took the time to listen to this after reading all of your comments so here's what I think:

It wasn't that bad. (after reading all that I wasn't even sure if I wanted to listen to it) In fact, I liked it. Yes, Bill was off in some parts, but I think it had nothing to do with him smoking (and I'm STRONGLY against him having any cigarette smoke around) To me it sounded like a technical problem. You could hardly hear the orchestra and I just kinda got the feeling that Bill was hesitating cuz he didn't know whether to use a softer voice or rock a louder one in the performance. Hence why he seemed to whisper some parts while he almost yelled at some others.

And it might just be me imagining things but he kinda looked like he couldn't hear, I bet that was it. Something was off. He had this strange look in his face the whole time and he kept looking around like he just couldn't completely get into it. Besides I think it's already clear that songs like this aren't his forte. I get the feeling he has a hard time going with the flow of the song, as in, when to sing softer when to sing louder, and when he tried to do that he sounded a bit raspy. That's also hard to do when the song itself goes back and forth from being slow to increasing its tempo and on top of that performing with an orchestra and possibly (just guessing here by the look on his face) not being able to hear it well and not knowing whether you're being too loud for it.

But anyway, this is Bill and we all know he isn't the best singer out there. This performance had the potential to be mindblowing because of the orchestra and all that, but I could hardly hear it. It wasn't perfect, but seeing as they usually do playback on shows like this, I'm actually really pleased with it. I've said this before, I could care less what they're wearing on stage or how cute are Bill's little dances; I'll take an OK live performance over a perfect playback show anyday. As Ray mentioned before, I'm past the point where the boys looking hot does it for me.

So, not their best but also not their worst, and certainly not the last ;) the tour starts on Monday and I'm looking forward to the youtube videos. Now THAT is what I want to see, and I know they're going rock the hll out of that stage
