Okay, so...yeah. I love CSI:Miami, and to read this, you at least should know the characters some, and understand the show. Pretty much self explanatory, ja.
Also, in this story, all of the guys are a few years older and a bit more famous in the US.
One.
Riley stared at the bottle of Mountain Dew in front of her, almost appearing to be praying to it. At least, that was what the lab techs believed when they would pass by the break room. In reality, she was nearly asleep, with her hands wrapped around the base of the bottle and her head bowed to keep her sandy blonde hair covering her face.
If I don’t move and pretend to be asleep, Eric won’t call and tell me we have—
Her phone vibrated on the metal table once before quietly playing a song by Rascal Flatts.
**** it.
She brushed her hair behind her ear, slowly picking up the new phone. “Bauer.”
“Riley, it’s Eric. We have an attempted murder case. Meet me at the Palms Villa Hotel parking lot.”
“Couldn’t you have called Speed or Calleigh? Seriously, I’ve barely gotten any sleep from my old case, and I’m about to fall asleep right now.”
“No. C’mon Ry, you love workin’ with me.” She sensed him smirking on the other end of the line.
“Alright, fine, but I want some of your mother’s delicious cooking for this.” She slid the holster back on her belt, checking the safety out of habit.
He chuckled. “It’s a deal. Now get moving.”
“Sir, yes sir,” she responded sarcastically, hanging up before he could say any more. Riley stood up from the uncomfortably hard chair, bones cracking. She picked up the soda and jogged out the door under the watchful eyes of lab techs.
---
Riley slammed the Hummer door as she studied the scene before her. There was a black Escalade turned at an odd angle, most of the glass shattered out of the driver’s window except for some jagged remains at the bottom. The majority of the glass covered the ground around the door, some as far as the rear tire. Droplets of blood, just visible from her side of the tape, went in a straight trail from the door with the shattered glass to a point where the ambulance must have been. She glared at the gathering of news reporters and out-of-place teen girls, some of who were dressed in punk-looking outfits.
She quickly signed the log-in sheet and crossed under the yellow crime scene tape, stepping carefully to Eric, the tall, dark, and handsome Cuban-Russian. He glanced up as he finished printing the driver’s door.
“Where do ya want me?”
He looked at her as she slid the large sunglasses into her ponytail. “Whoa, you weren’t kidding. Why don’t you go talk to Frank and see what you can find out?”

Two.
Riley put on her gloves with a reassuring snap as she crossed the scene to the small group of police officers, possible victims from the car, and their sarcastic Texan detective, Frank Tripp. He glanced at her as he jotted some notes as he tried to understand the young German before him. The young CSI studied his impressive appearance: loose faded jeans with a white studded belt, crisp white sneakers, a black t-shirt with a faded design, and what seemed to be an afro but with straightened hair. She felt that her make-up was far too little when she saw his darkly-outlined eyes and practically perfect complexion.
“Bauer, do you understand a lick of German?” Frank mumbled to her.
“Sí señor,” she whispered. “Not a bunch, but enough for a conversation or interrogation.”
“Okay,” he held up a hand to stop the chattering young man. “Why don’t you repeat everything you just said to her, and don’t be afraid to speak some of that mother language of yours.”
He sighed, obviously worried about whoever had been hurt. “How much longer will this take?” He asked in a slightly-thick accent.
“Not much longer, if you cooperate. And we ask the questions around here,” She answered professionally, giving him a reassuring smile.
He retold his entire story. They had snuck out of the hotel through the employee’s entrance and exit, and were heading out to do an interview with a local newspaper. He and Tom, one of the others being interviewed, were fighting over how to word a song they were writing. Georg and Gustav, the other two, were trying to check out girls that they could see. Their bodyguard, Saki, took the driver’s seat and was just pulling away from their parking space when he was shot in the shoulder.
Riley watched as the detective finished writing what she had translated.
“Danke shön,” she told him. “We’ll get an officer to get you some clothes to change into.”
“What? Why?” He asked, staring at her innocently and in confusion. “I did not have anything to do with this!”
“We know you didn’t, Herr…”
“Call me Bill.”
“We know you didn’t have anything to do with it, Bill, but you have evidence on your jeans.” She looked down at the glass stuck in the seams and a droplet or so of blood from trying to help the bodyguard. She knelt down, opened her kit, and pulled the small shards of glass out.
Frank waved two cops over, who escorted Bill towards the hotel to change. A few others held off girls and reporters, who tried to run and swarm the trio.
“What the ****, Frank?” Riley wondered aloud.
“Bill is the lead singer of some rock group from Germany. I would’ve thought you would’ve heard of them, since you listen to foreign stuff.”
“It would help if you told me the name of their group.”
“Tokio Hotel.”
She thought for a moment. “I’ve heard of them, but I don’t think I’ve heard much of their music. I’ve been too busy with work to really do much else.” She yawned.
“Whoa, that was some yawn there, Ry. Look, it’s getting late, so why don’t you go home early and get some sleep?” Eric walked up to them, holding his camera.
“But—”
“No buts, you’re not much good processing a scene if you’re half-dead.”
She rolled her eyes. “Alright, fine. But if you’re out here for three more hours, you can only blame yourself.”

Bit of a long one for you guys. :]
Three.
Riley awoke to her two Dalmatians, Missis and Pongo, barking up a storm as they tripped over themselves to reach the front door.
Great, they tell me to go home and sleep, and now they come stirring up the dogs and banging on my door. Can’t they make up their freaking minds?
She stretched, pulling her loose tank top over her bare stomach. It was probably close to eight or so, judging by the sky that still had a few bits of sunlight hanging on. As she rose from the lounge chair on the deck of her condo, she ran a hand through her messy hair, trying to fix it. She yanked on the laces of her board shorts, trying to pull them tighter around her hips, but barely succeeded.
Her dogs danced around the double doors, nails clattering on the tile.
“Guys, chill out. Go, sit, and stay.” She pointed towards the table behind the couch, where they slowly retreated to, waiting to jump the person on the other side of the door.
She looked out of the peep-hole and saw Eric waiting on the other side, a few unidentifiable people with him. “Oh for Christ’s sake…” She muttered and opened the door. “What do you want? Oh, sh*t…”
There were four others behind him, all of them the band members from earlier. They had all changed into different clothes, no doubt their former attire now in the evidence locker.
“Ry, H thinks that since someone shot at their car, someone may be after them. He knows that you have enough room—” Eric began, trying to avoid her glare.
“And why couldn’t he have at least called and told me this?” She snapped, never in a good mood whenever she had been woken up so abruptly.
“I…forgot. Look, they’re not going to be in town for more than a few days, and Cal and I can probably wrap this case by the end of tomorrow. Then they can go back to their hotel. H just wants you to watch them and take them wherever they need to go.”
“Please tell me I’m getting paid for this.”
“Sí.”
“Alright, come on in.” She moved from the doorway to let them in. They each carried in several bags, as many as they could handle, and still more were stacked in the hallway. With her palm, she hid her astonishment as she wiped sleepiness from her eyes. She was about to help bring some bags in, but she had no idea which belonged to who, and really didn’t feel like being aggravated by the task.
“Hey! Riley!” Eric yelled from the hallway.
She sighed and left the door, going to the hallway. “What?”
“Okay, two of the guys claimed those spare beds. There’s only one left, and that’s your bed. What’s it goin’ to be?” Bill and another band member, one with straight brown hair and a piercing stare, watched her expectantly.
“Well, I washed the sheets the other day, but I’ve been crashing on the couch, so someone can take it.” The moment she said that, they immediately started pushing each other as they tried to run to the bed. “HOLD IT!”
They stopped just short of the bed and looked at her curiously.
“Okay, since you two are goin’ to be this way about it, we’re going to have a contest to see who gets it. I’m thinking of a number between one and ten. Closest to my number gets the bed, and the loser gets the couch.”
“Nine,” the brunette said.
“Two,” Bill answered after a moment.
“Bill, you get my room.” He smiled and happily bounced into the room with his bags. Eric and the other band member left the hallway, and Riley pondered what she was to do now that she wasn’t breaking up fights. She wandered into her room and began to collect a few things from her drawers and the bedside table.
“Where are you going to sleep?” Bill asked her as he took off his necklace.
“I have a lounge chair on the balcony.” She rolled her clothes into a ball and looked at him. He looked back at her with a puzzling range of emotions in his brown eyes.
“Oh no, I cannot take your bed and let you sleep outside.”
“Hey, whoa, hold up there, Germany. I’ve slept better in that chair than I have in my own bed sometimes. Besides, you’ve been through a lot today. You need a good night’s sleep.” She gave him a small smile and headed for the door. “Oh, have you guys eaten dinner already?”
“Ja. Your good friend Maxine brought us pizza.”
“Maxine? Oh, Valera.” She furrowed her brow, wondering what the lab tech was trying to do. “Well, if you guys want anything else, I have plenty of food in the kitchen.”
Riley walked back into the main room, where Eric and the three other guys were moving the suitcases inside. She put her belongings in a chair near the balcony and picked up the leashes from the coffee table.
“Bauer, this is Tom,” Eric gestured to the one with dirty blonde dreadlocks and a gangster appearance, “Gustav,” the one with short hair under a baseball cap and dark eyes, “and Georg,” the one that had been fighting with Bill to get her room.
“Nice to meet you guys. I’d stay and help, but it’s time for these two to take a walk. Eric, can you hang around ‘til I get back?” The dogs bounded over to her excitedly and she clipped their leashes on.
“Sure, but don’t take too long.”
She rolled her eyes at him, slid on her flip-flops, and briskly left the apartment. There was something that felt…odd when Bill had looked at her, and she hated being left with questions.

Four.
(A few hours later)
Bill stepped almost silently onto the balcony, carefully watching the sleeping Riley with her blanket tangled around her bare legs. He didn’t want to wake her, since she had stayed up with them until the nightly news had come on, and even then had barely stayed awake. That had only been two hours earlier, and he didn’t want to be waking her when she had given him her bed.
The waves crashed on the shore a few stories below them, the sound soothing to his mind. The moon was only half-full, which gave him just enough light to see the smooth beach and the tall palm trees moving with a breeze.
Something jingled behind Bill, causing him to jump. He turned around from his spot at the railing to find one of her dogs returning from inside. It watched him for a moment before it curled up with its partner beside Riley’s makeshift bed. He turned back to watch the rippling water, sighing deeply.
His thoughts focused mainly on Saki, their beloved bodyguard. They had spoken to him briefly on the phone at the police station, but the doctor came in shortly after and he had to end the call. He was in okay shape, the bullet was now in the CSI’s ballistic lab, and they would no doubt have him back within in a day or so. But the fact that someone had shot at them frightened him — a moment more and that bullet could have been in his shoulder.
Riley stirred behind him, but he didn’t notice. She began to roll over and noticed him out of the corner of her eye. She sat up slightly, watching him for a moment. He looked so much different from earlier, and it wasn’t just the fact that he was only in black boxer briefs. The makeup and jewelry were gone, his hair was slightly unruly, and he was obviously deep in thought by the way he leaned on the railing and watched the ocean.
“Germany? What are you doing up?” She asked quietly, trying not to stare at his behind.
He whipped around at her question, obviously startled. “Did I wake you?”
“No, it’s cool. What’s up?”
“Nothing, I just have a lot on my mind.”
Riley pulled the blanket away from her and joined him at the railing. She stared out at the ocean as she ran a hand through her hair. “Your bodyguard?”
“Ja.”
“I’m sure he’ll be fine. If he could hold off fans like what I saw at the scene, he’s pretty **** tough.”
“Ja, he is.” Bill sighed again, picking absently at his nails.
“Okay, you’re talking to someone who’s gone through tons of interrogations. There’s something else on your mind that you’re not telling me.”
“Have you been shot?”
“Yeah, actually, I have.”
“Und did it hurt?”
“Hell yeah.” He gave her a look that spoke volumes. “You were sitting behind Saki?”
“Ja. I could have been shot.”
“Did you tell the detective?”
“Ja.”
“Then don’t worry about it. Trust me; they won’t stop until they find whoever did this.” Riley put her hand on his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
He turned and did something she did not expect. He hugged her tightly, almost nuzzling her hair with his nose. She wasn’t about to tell him that the person who had shot her was still in the wind, a year later.
“It’s goin’ to be okay, Bill. Do you want to go for a walk?”

Five.
As she reached the sand at the end of the beach access, Riley dragged her feet to bury them in the cool sand. Bill caught up to her and gave her an odd look before he realized what she was doing.
“Don’t you come here everyday?” He wondered. He was now in a pair of swim trunks and a tight t-shirt, barefoot.
“Just because I live right up there doesn’t mean I have the time. So, what’s it like in Germany?” She crossed her arms over her chest as they started towards the water. Riley had changed into a pair of worn board shorts and a loose t-shirt.
“What is what like?”
She chuckled at his accent. “Life in Germany, I mean.”
“It’s amazing. People are very nice; things are very different than over here.”
“Really? Not everyone in the world is self-obsessed?” He looked at her, surprised. “Sorry. I’m a cranky person when I’ve only had a few hours of sleep. And in this job, you can meet some of the worst people.”
“What is that like?”
“Being a CSI? I would say about ten times harder than being a lead singer.” She smiled as he laughed. “I mean, you have bodyguards protecting you from people. We only have a metal vest between us and them. You guys just have to know your music. We have the ten million rules and regulations from IAB. The only thing I hate about my job is IAB investigations.”
“IAB?”
“Internal Affairs Bureau. You mess up or break a rule, they’ll come after you like those girls did earlier.”
There was a moment of awkward silence as they neared the water.
“So, what do you like to do? When you are not in IAB investigations.”
“Well, running and listening to music are my two big things, since I can do both with the dogs. I try to go shopping and to the movies when I can. Otherwise, I’m with friends somewhere. And what about you? What do rock stars do with their free time?”
Bill started to say something, but he was cut off by her phone ringing.
“Who is calling at this time—Maggie, duh.” She scrambled for her phone in her shorts pocket. “Mags, do you realize what time it is?...No, I’m not coming over for a movie.” She rolled her eyes at Bill, then gestured to show that Maggie was a chatterbox, and finally shot herself in the head with her ‘hand’ gun. He began to laugh, but she quickly slapped a hand over his mouth. “Mags, that was nothing, just one of the dogs.” She looked at him wide-eyed, obviously clueless how to cover it up.
Bill snatched the phone from her.
“What?! Bill! No! Give it!”
“Riley is busy. She will have to call you back.” With that, he hung up the phone and handed it back to the stunned blonde.
She stared at the phone in her hand, making squeaking noises, as Bill walked on. When she finally came back to her senses, she ran to him and jumped in front of him to stop him. “You did NOT just do that.”
He blinked at her innocently.
“That was my twin sister. She knows me too well. She will figure out something is up.”
He turned her around and kept walking with his arm around her shoulder. “You have a twin sister?”
She pushed his arm away dramatically and turned to him as they kept walking. “Yes, I do. Don’t try to change the subject on me. Do you know how much **** I’ll have to pay in the morning?!”
“You are walking on a beach in the middle of the night, und we have two interviews und a sound check tomorrow.” He chuckled as she stumbled across miniature dunes of sand made by the tide.
“You are kidding me.”
“Nein.”
She stopped for a second, and then took off ahead of him at a full sprint, kicking sand up behind her. Bill took off to catch up with her, wondering what in the world she was doing. He became worried as she dramatically collapsed onto the sand.
Once he caught up to her and was trying to catch his breath, she burst into hysterical laughter.
“What is so funny?” He questioned between breaths. “Und why did you run like that?”
“No reason. Und I’m going to have you explain everything to my sister tomorrow when she calls.” She jumped to her feet, brushing sand off. She stepped close to him, trying to look him square in the eye.
Which would work so much better if I wasn’t half a foot shorter than him.
“I always get my revenge, Bill.” She smirked and turned on heel to continue walking.
It was now Bill’s turn to flip out. “She will not believe me!” He announced as he caught up with her.
“I know my sister. You’ve already talked to her once; she’ll believe you over me. Besides, she works in the music industry; she knows ten times the bands I do.”
“Und what will that prove?”
“She’ll know whether it’s best to believe your little remark or not.” Riley sensed he was giving her that look again. Was it the babbling, nutty side of her? That’s all he had really seen of her.
And a lot of skin.
“Should she?” He stepped close to her.
“Nein. I don’t sleep around.”
“Do you kiss und tell?”
“Mags would pull all her hair out if I told her about every guy I kissed. So no.”
He kissed her right on the lips.

Six.
Once they pulled apart, Riley could only stand there with a stunned look on her face. Bill stared at her for a moment before he waved a hand in front of her face to get her to look at him.
“Why? Why me? Why me out of all of those girls who like you?” She wondered quietly.
“I like you. Und they like me for the music und my appearance.”
“You mean how you looked earlier is what they like?” She raised her eyebrow slightly.
“Ja. You have never heard of us, have you?”
“Nein.”
He took her phone once again, playing with it for a moment before handing it back to her. He had found some Youtube video named Monsoon, which started after a moment. It started with a helicopter over the water, the only noise from it running. The music began a moment later, and that was soon followed by the appearance of a distressed-looking Bill.
She looked at him for a moment, wondering why he was showing this to her. He nodded back at the phone, telling her to keep watching.
Riley watched the whole video quietly, caught up in the lyrics and video. Once it finished, she stared at the screen for a moment before looking at Bill.
“Wow, that…that was amazing. Probably one of the best things I’ve heard in my life.”
Bill started to say something, but he was cut off by someone yelling from near one of the condo buildings. “Hey! What are you doing out here! Get outta here!”
“You don’t own the beach, dumbass!” She yelled back, Bill flinching at her loud voice. She gave him an apologetic smile.
“I’ll call the cops, bxtch!”
“Oh no he did not,” Riley grumbled and started to charge across the beach.
Bill caught her hand and stopped her. “We have a busy day tomorrow, remember? Let’s just go.”
She glared at him for a minute, obviously ready to fight the obnoxious man. With a sigh, she relaxed. “Alright, let’s go.”
He kept a hold on her hand as they walked back the way they came.

Seven.
Riley glared as a bit of egg flew out of the bowl and splattered on the counter. She let go of the whisk and reached for the damp washcloth, wiping it cleanly away before she tossed it to the sink behind her.
“I thought I was a freaking chauffeur, not a chef,” she grumbled. All of them asked for different things, all claiming they couldn’t cook well.
The front door opened quietly but was slammed shut. The dogs jumped from their places near Riley and ran towards the door, barking like mad. She stepped away from the counter, wondering who it was.
“Riley, is he still here?” It was Maggie, in all of her bohemian and pink-striped hair glory. She didn’t look much different than her sister, only lighter-skinned and a platinum blonde.
“Oh my freaking God, Mags! You just come barging over?! I’ll remember this the next time our places are switched.” She played along with the story, smirking as she returned to breakfast.
“Whatever. Is he cute? Was he good? That’s a lot of food for just two of you,” Maggie bantered, settling at the head of the breakfast table. She pulled out a makeup bag and proceeded to fix her mascara and eyeliner, oblivious to Tom watching her in the hallway.
“Why don’t you shut up Maggie?” Riley poured the scrambled egg onto the warm pan, eyeing the shirtless, gangster-like twin watching her sister too closely for comfort. Good riddance, maybe she’ll leave me alone some if they like each other.
“Bite me.”
“Don’t make me pull badge on you,” she joked, pulling the bacon from the microwave and the English muffins from the toaster.
“Christ, you do that every time. You’re way too serious for 22.” She looked over as three guys came to the table and sat down, Tom and Georg sitting on either side of her. “Ry, care to explain this?” She gave her sister a ‘you better talk or I will scream’ look.
“Maggie, meet Tom, Georg, and Gustav. They and Bill make up a German band.”
“There’s another one?! Four guys?!”
Tom and Georg said something to each other and laughed, receiving a glare from Maggie.
“This is what you get for calling in the middle of the night. They’re staying with me because someone might be trying to kill them.”
“You mean they’re the up-and-coming punk-rock group that nearly lost their bodyguard because of someone who got onto the roof of their hotel and shot him?”
“Saki nearly died?! Riley, you said he would be fine!” Bill exclaimed, walking into the kitchen. He looked between Riley and the other band members, just as shaken as them.
“Mags! Christ! Where did you hear this?!”
“Channel seven news.”
“They’re a bunch of freaking exaggerators! When I got shot, it sounded like I was without my Kevlar and on my deathbed! I know I lost a bunch of blood, but the doctor said I would’ve had to have lost twice as much to be in serious condition.” She swiped her phone from the counter and walked briskly to the sliding glass door. “Someone take care of breakfast.”
Bill followed Riley onto the balcony, where she sat on the lounge chair and cursed for someone to pick up. She glanced at him and moved over to give him space. When he sat down, she reached for his hand.
“Whatever it is, we’ll go see him, okay?” He nodded and held onto her hand tightly.
“Delko,” the voice came clear over the speakerphone.
“Yo, Eric. Maggie just came bustin’ over here and said something about Saki being seriously hurt. She’s really freaked the guys out. How bad was it?” She glanced up as the other three crowded the balcony and doorway. She started to move her hand away from Bill, but he held onto it.
Bill glared slightly as Gustav nudged Georg about it, who poked Tom in the side.
“Your sister watched channel seven, didn’t she?”
“Por supuesto.” [Of course.]
“The surgeon noticed that the bullet came close to a major blood vessel, but didn’t damage anything major. They’re keeping him an extra day than normal because of the angle he was shot at; they want to make sure the bone it came near is going to be okay.”
“So Saki’s okay? When are they going to release him?”
“Yeah, he’s fine. Gave the translator a run for his money when we went to talk to him. He should be out in two days, but if we don’t find the shooter before then, he’ll stay there where we can keep uniforms on the room. As for that person who went to the roof of the hotel and shot from up there, we’ve found evidence of it, and it’s being processed right now. But we only found smudges, a quarter of a shoe print, and some GSR that could have come from a number of guns.”
“Okay, thanks Eric. Keep us up-to-date, will ya?”
“No problema. Adiós chica.”
“Adiós mi amor,” she said with a chuckle. She pressed a button on the screen to end the call before he could retort. She looked up and noticed four confused looks. “Go watch Criminal Minds. We watched a season together and somehow became Garcia and Morgan.”
They exchanged looks, all sharing one with Bill, who had obviously developed something with her overnight. Tom finally spoke up. “When are we going to see Saki?”
“I guess after breakfast, the interview’s not until eleven.”
“We’ll leave you two lovebirds alone, then,” Georg said in German with a laugh, receiving glares from the twins. He knew Tom had flirted with her the night before, but his brother had won out on this one.
Riley raised an eyebrow, only understanding some of what he said and confused by Bill’s none too happy look at the bassist. “Should I ask?”
He turned to her as they went back inside. “Nein.”
“Don’t you think that was being a little too…forward? The hand-holding, I mean. We only met yesterday. Und I’m meant to be the bodyguard and chauffeur. Can we keep it under wraps while we’re out, for now?” She bit her lip slightly, hoping he would understand.
He looked slightly hurt, but nodded. “If it would be better, ja.”

Eight.
Riley checked the safety on her gun before she got out of her Hummer, the only available transportation since her motorcycle wouldn’t hold them all. She locked the truck as Tom slammed his door shut, still sulking behind his sunglasses. He had tried to get Maggie’s number before the livelier, untaken Bauer had left for work, but had only received some remark in Spanish. Riley had nearly choked on her water in laughter, but refused to translate.
The Miami-Dade hospital loomed before them, a tall and expanse building that seemed to be a creamy white. Riley stared at it for a moment before joining the band, the slightly spooked look in her eyes hidden behind her large white sunglasses. She twisted the purse strap around her wrist, hoping it could be a simple distraction once they went inside.
Bill glanced at her, noticing how serious she looked. “Are you okay?”
“What? Of course I’m okay. Why?” She watched him, stray locks covering some of her face.
“You seem…quieter.”
She pursed her lips for a moment. “I haven’t been back here since I got shot. I’ve been able to avoid it. I know I wasn’t going to die or anything, but I thought I was.”
He watched her, noticing how much that had gotten under her skin but she wasn’t letting it show. “How old were you—”
“Twenty-one. I graduated college a year early, and my internship had saved me a spot at the lab. Eric and I went to some warehouse to talk to a suspect, and someone started shooting at us. I wasn’t certified for my gun yet, so I was an easy target.”
They entered the main lobby of the hospital, which looked bright and cheery with sand-colored tiles, leafy palms, and a comfy-looking sitting area. They all took off their sunglasses, looking around and slowly trailing Riley, who went towards the reception desk.
“Officer, how can I help you?” The receptionist caught a glimpse of her badge and was all smiles.
“I’m a CSI, actually.” The salt-and-pepper haired woman looked apologetic. “Can you tell us what room—?”
“Oh, you boys must be Tokio Hotel. Your bodyguard is in room 528. Is there anything else I can help with?” She tapped at the computer quickly for the room number.
“No, thanks,” Riley said, ushering the band to the elevator.
They waited for some other visitors to exit before stepping in. She quickly pressed the button for the correct floor and another to close the doors.
“I thought she was quite nice,” Gustav commented dryly.
“Nosy bxtch,” she responded. “She gave Speed and Calleigh twenty questions to get in to see me. She probably only knows you guys because of a Google search when we walked in.”
“Who’s Calleigh?” Georg asked.
She looked over her shoulder at him, one eyebrow raised. He blinked innocently, but she saw that glint in his eye. “She’s another CSI, und a bit too old for you.”
“Maybe she is too old for Georg, but not for me,” Tom responded with a smirk.
Riley rolled her eyes and faced forward. “She’s seeing someone anyways. And nein, she won’t sleep with you just because you’re in town for a few days.”
Realization hit her. What would happen to her and Bill when he had to go on with the band?

Nine.
Riley watched as the band chatted animatedly with their bodyguard, who looked incredibly happy to see them. Even Gustav was a bit of a chatterbox, and she had rarely seen him talk. She checked her phone for the time, which said they still had a good fifteen minutes before they had to say their goodbyes.
She glanced over at the room number, which seemed to stick in her head.
Riley looked around the expanse warehouse, keeping a tight grip on her kit. Large palettes of tile and other things were stacked nearly to the level of the second-story catwalk. Eric poked his gun around some of the palettes, finding no one.
“It’s clear. Just be careful, someone could still be around.” He holstered his gun and took some gloves from her.
“I’m a rookie, Eric, not an idiot,” she said with a smile. They had grown to be like brother and sister, working a majority of their latest cases together.
He chuckled. “Yeah, but you don’t have your gun yet. So stay close to me.” He went over to a door to a small office. “Powder me.”
She rolled her eyes as she found the fingerprint powder and brush and handed it to him. “Ya know, I could do that myself.”
“Shut up and do as you’re told, rookie,” he answered sarcastically.
Something echoed from the other side of the building. Riley jumped to attention, looking around nervously. Eric appeared beside her, holding the powder and brush. He quickly put it back in the kit and reached for his gun.
Just as he did, there was a loud explosion, or so it seemed. She felt a sharp pain in her right side, just below the Kevlar. Eric began shooting at the man who was on the catwalk, scaring him off with how close he came. He turned around and looked down.
“Riley, you’ve been shot!” He yelped, coming over to support her wounded side as he pressed his hand onto the wound to slow the blood.
She looked down and saw the jaggedly torn hole in her shirt, the tear in her skin, and blood soaking her shirt and jeans. “Oh my God,” she breathed before she fainted.
After that point, she could vaguely recall the paramedic trying to talk to her on the way to the hospital, whizzing through the hospital with nurses barking orders and the bright lights overhead, an anesthesiologist putting the mask over her nose and mouth, and finally the room that Saki was now in, the place she spent a few days in.
“Riley!”
She snapped out her day-mare, focusing her dark brown eyes on Bill. He looked at her, concerned. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. What is it?”
He looked in either direction, finding nurses either busy with the few patients nearby or at the nurses station’s computers. Just as he looked back at her, he kissed her on the lips. Her lips tingled, obviously having missed his soft, indescribably perfect lips. She felt one hand on her hip, the contact making the spot heat up. After a moment or more of bliss, he pulled away.
“Bill! I thought—” She began, quiet but slightly squeaky.
“Saki could tell. And the others know. No one is around.” She didn’t look too reassured. “Come on, he wants to meet the person protecting us.”
“Alright.” She followed him back into the room, a nervous look evident on her face. Bill kept his arm around her waist.
“Hallo. Ich bin Saki. You are the one protecting the boys?” He shook her hand, testing her strength with a strong grip, and eyed her suspiciously. She was nearly a head shorter than Bill, and had some muscle tone, mostly in her legs. Her grip, however, was strong.
“I’m Riley Bauer, and yeah, I am.” She placed one hand on her hip, brushing back her jacket to show the handgun and badge on her left side. “Well, me and my Glock are.”
His eyes widened slightly at the sight of her gun. He had never carried guns or any other dangerous weapons when he escorted the boys anywhere, thinking it looked like they needed such things for protection.
“I’m technically on duty, so I have to carry it. And I don’t use it unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
“How is your aim?” He asked.
They had a staring contest for a moment. In one swift, smooth motion, she quickly pulled the gun from the holster and aimed it at Tom, who was standing on the other side of the bed, looking out the window. He turned around and shrieked girlishly when it saw it aimed at his head, holding his hands in front of him as if it would help.
“You’re meant to be protecting me! Not aiming your gun at me!” He whined, ready to trip over the chair behind him. Or cry, it was hard to call which would come first.
She rolled her eyes, smirked at Saki, and placed the gun back at her side. Gustav and Georg were dying of laughter at Tom’s reaction, and ignored his humiliated glare.
“How will you handle fans who try to go after the boys?”
Riley could tell this was some quiz/crash course in being a bodyguard. “Uhhhhm, push through them? Hey, I live in the moment, so however I can get them off with little force, I’ll do it.”
He nodded, not entirely convinced, but could tell she knew what she was talking about. “How old are you?”
“Twenty-two.”
“How long have you been with the police?”
“Since last year, officially. I was an intern at the crime lab before that.”
“What do you drive?”
“I usually drive my Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, but right now I have my county-issue Hummer with tinted windows.”
“Do you have the entire detailed itinerary for Miami?”
“Ja.”
“What makes you think you are right for Bill?”

Ten.
Riley’s eyes widened to the size of saucers. She looked between Bill, who was equally as stunned, the other guys, who were surprised by the question, and Saki, who looked as cool as a cucumber. Well, he probably looked so calm with the amount of painkillers he was on.
“I, uh…I’m…*******,” she got squeakier with each attempt at saying something. “I’m…nice?” She smiled innocently, hoping for the best. “We just met, we don’t know everything about each other.”
The silence was deafening as Saki looked between her and Bill. The others looked concerned now, since Bill’s expression was slightly angry.
Riley quickly turned on heel and fled the room as swiftly and calmly as she possibly could. They all watched her jog off down the hall, keeping her head up despite whatever emotions were running through her.
“What the **** was that about, Saki?!” Bill exclaimed in German, so only they could understand.
“Bill, you guys are on tour. This is no time to get a girlfriend. What’s going to happen when we have to move on and she has to stay here?”
“You could always do what Tom does,” Georg suggested with a smirk. Tom sniggered.
Bill glared at both of them, with a look that said he could easily toss them both out the window. “We can figure that out when we need to.”
“And what about the fans? Lots of girls like the fact that you were single. And if she were to go to a concert—”
“She’s a cop, Saki. She knows how to protect herself.”
“I’m just trying to protect you, Bill. I don’t want something to happen and someone get hurt, physically or emotionally.” His expression was genuine; he didn’t want to see Bill hurt by someone he had grown to care about so fast.
Bill brushed at some imaginary dirt on the floor with the toe of his shoe, slightly calmer.
The door behind Bill opened, and they all looked over, half-expecting Riley. Instead, it was a woman with tan skin and wavy black hair, a sugary-sweet smile on her face and clad in crisp blue scrubs. They all knew immediately, by the expression reminiscent of the receptionist’s, what their temporary bodyguard would say.
“I apologize, but I’ll have to ask you young men to step out. We need to take your friend to do some tests,” she told them in a soft voice.
“Come on, let’s go find Riley,” Gustav spoke up, trying to relieve any sort of tension. “Hope you feel better Saki.”
The others echoed similar goodbyes, waving. The bodyguard and Bill shared a look just as the lead singer left the room, a look that they both understood.
They waited for each other in the hallway and started down the hall in the same direction that Riley took.
“If I was Riley, where would I be?” Georg wondered with an amused smile.
“Probably in the ladies room, crying her eyes out,” Tom suggested with a chuckle.
They had nearly walked past her, sitting in the doorway of the unoccupied sitting area. Bill spotted her motorcycle boot just as they passed her, and he stopped and went to her. Even after staring at her for a moment, she didn’t tear her eyes from the view over the bay. He reached over and gently turned her head to him. She gave him one of those looks that said a million words without one being spoken.
“We should be getting to the interview,” she said simply, quietly. She bounced to her feet, gave them all half-hearted smiles, and started in the direction of the elevators.

The boys settled on the plush couch of the interview room that overlooked the beach only a floor below them. Tom, Georg, and Gustav all pushed each other around for a moment, fighting over a spot. Bill gave them a look, amused by them but also wondering how he could stand them at times. He looked over to Riley, who was perched on a stool at the empty bar, her blonde hair hiding some of her face. One leg bounced anxiously, obviously out of habit, as her thumbs flew over the keyboard on the phone. She glanced up for a moment, barely holding his gaze for a second before she glanced outside and back at the phone.
“Hey guys, I’m Stephen. Sorry to have kept you guys waiting, someone needed my help finishing an article. Who’s the chick?” A younger man, with curly brown hair and bluish eyes, strode in with a twin-like female photographer, only she was shorter and more timid.
Riley glared at him. “I’m the temporary bodyguard. And I’m not a chick, I’m a CSI.”
He looked at her for a moment, wondering how someone who wasn’t terribly muscular or tall could be a bodyguard. “Whatever. Before we start this interview, do you guys have any questions?”
They all looked at each other, and finally Bill spoke for them all. “Nein, we don’t.”
“Okay, the first question that everyone wants to know is: do any of you have girlfriends? Or any one night stands lately, Tom?” He set a recorder down on the table between them.
They all chuckled as Tom went off on some little story that would turn out to be nothing. Georg sat there smirking, throwing in bits about himself also being there, and Gustav picked at a loose thread on his jeans. Bill glanced over at Riley, who was staring back at him curiously through her eyelashes. He knew the question would eventually fall to him, and he wasn’t sure what to say. She went back to her texting, and he looked back at his brother, smiling at the now wildly-untrue tale.
“That’s some story, Tom,” Stephen said with a laugh. “What about you, Bill? Lots of girls always want to be with you.”
All eyes were on him, except for the photographer who was playing with her camera and Riley, who was typing away, but he could sense her trying to watch inconspicuously. “I actually just met someone that I enjoy being with…it’s complicated with the tour going on, and Saki being hurt.”
“Oooh, is she a fan?”
“She likes our music, ja.”
Stephen moved on to ask Georg something. Bill looked over at Riley, who gave him a small smile. Something had been repaired, but they had a long day ahead of them before they could talk it all out.

Twelve.
After the interview and short photo shoot, they were off to a lunch with some fans that had won a contest. Riley sat a table away, eventually sharing it with Eric. Bill watched them when he could, not knowing their friendship well enough to understand it. They were flirtatious towards each other, but then they were more like close siblings. She sent him a few happy-go-lucky smiles, possibly trying to reassure him. The four fans that had won all seemed to think they were ‘the ones’ for them all, nearly falling out of their chairs to be flirty and keep their full attention.
After they departed from the heartbroken but also deliriously happy fans, they were on to another interview in South Beach. This interview was nearly twice as long as the one earlier, but was also filmed for a local entertainment television station. There was also another photo shoot inside the club they were filmed outside of. Finally, sometime before dinner, Riley dropped them at the concert hall for their sound check. After that, some of the ‘suits’ for the local Universal office took them out to dinner at a popular restaurant, where they were watched closely by the paparazzi.
It was close to eight in the evening when they finally shuffled into Riley’s condo, tired from the events of the day. Bill was especially exhausted, having been up in the middle of the night.
Georg collapsed onto his ‘bed,’ burying his face in the soft pillow. Gustav wandered over to the kitchen in search of something better than what they had been served at the restaurant. Tom went off to change. Bill slouched in a chair in the living room, nudging the toe of his shoe to poke Georg’s hand hanging down the side of the couch. Georg finally got annoyed by it and grabbed Bill’s shoe, yanking it off and throwing it behind him.
“Georg!” Bill exclaimed, not wanting to retrieve the shoe. Georg grabbed at his sock next, though failed to get it when Bill curled his leg under him.
“Hey, has anyone seen Riley?” Tom wondered as he came back out. “She’s not in the shower or bedroom or anything.”
Gustav looked around curiously, taking his bowl of cereal with him as he checked the laundry room. “Nein, not in there.”
“We would’ve heard her doing laundry, Gustav,” Tom said matter-of-factly. Gustav rolled his eyes and sat at the dining table to eat his meal.
Bill noticed the door to the balcony was open. He slowly pulled himself out of the chair, kicked his other shoe off at Georg, and wandered over to the door. Her two dogs looked up at him from the lounge chair, watching him suspiciously for a moment. Missis jumped down and nudged him in the hand, wanting attention.
“Where’s Riley at?” He asked the dog, not expecting an answer. She jumped on him, licked him in the face some, got down, and jumped up to look over the railing. As he wiped dog slobber from his face, he joined the dog and looked out towards the beach.
He saw a large wave, whipped up by the wind and current, making its way towards the beach. With it, he saw a figure slowly stand up and cut across the wave on a board.
“Did you find her?” Tom asked as Bill strode across the condo to the front door.
“Ja. I’m going to go talk to her.” With that, he left with a slam of the door.
--
Bill made himself comfortable next to her clothes and bag, watching her sit in the ocean on her board. She seemed so at peace, separated from the world and her problems.
Her body straightened and tensed, obviously alert to something. Riley quickly turned her board towards shore and began paddling, eventually getting caught up in a wave. She got to her feet in a swift motion, riding the wave out until it got close to shore. She bailed out a few yards from shore, disappearing into the water for a moment before she popped back up.
As she smoothed her hair back, she saw him watching her. She pulled her board to her and fought her way out of the breakers, the pink and blue shortboard under her arm. She jogged over to him, dumping the board beside where she sat down.
“So…” she began, wondering what they were going to talk about. She leaned behind him to grab her towel, only to get poked in the eye by his lion’s mane hairstyle. “Ow, d*mn, that hurt.”
He looked over at her and reached for her cheek. “Let me see.”
She blinked at him, her eye now fine. They looked into each other’s eyes for a moment. Just as he leaned in to kiss her, she interrupted him. “I think we need to talk about…our, for a lack of better word, situation.”
Bill sighed. “Once we get Saki back, I think we should go public.”
“Bill, we barely know each other. I’d like it more if we were actually kinda serious before we let the ten million fans know.”
“Riley, I don’t know your middle name, Bauer, tell me about yourself.”
“It’s Lynne. Well, I was born just up the coast in a smaller town…”
They talked, laughed, and shared the stories for the next two hours until they finally realized what time it was.
--
Georg jumped as the phone in the kitchen rang. He had just dozed off after Tom had been poking and bugging him for most of some show on TV. He groaned and rolled over, wondering whether to answer it or not. He grumbled something in a mix of German and English before he rolled over and buried his face in the pillow.
“Hey, you’ve reached Riley Bauer. I can’t get to the phone right now, so leave a message!”
“Hey, Ry, it’s Eric. Your cell goes straight to voicemail, so I figured I’d catch you on this line…but I guess not. Anyways, well, I’ll just come right out and say it. The band will find out.”
Georg turned his head to look at the phone, alert and curious.
“Jack Rodriguez is back in Florida. Highway patrol spotted him coming in from Georgia, and they were going to try to stop him but there was some big pile-up. You know what his reputation was, Ry, so I’m not even going to say it. Just call H ‘cause he wants to figure something out. Just call me later, okay? Bye.”
He raised an eyebrow in confusion. That certainly was odd. And worrying.

Thirteen.
The guys lounged around the living room as Riley lay on the floor beside the coffee table. Georg told her about the message the moment she and Bill walked in the door, and she went straight into CSI mode—little emotion showed, she was all work and little play. Now she was talking to her boss, Horatio, completely in Spanish. Bill could figure a little bit out from what French he knew, but for the most part it was some quick phrases and she went quiet.
“Yeah, I’ll explain it to them. I’ll be fine, H, I know how to handle myself. Adios.” She pressed a button on the screen and put the phone on the table.
“Well?” Tom wondered.
“My sister’s going to join me as a bodyguard tomorrow. Jack Rodriguez is the guy that shot me last year. He has a reputation of killing anyone who doesn’t die from one of his shots.” They all looked at her. “Basically, he’s coming back to kill me.”
“Great, so someone may be trying to kill one of us, and now someone else is going after you!” Bill began talking away in rapid German, pacing the length of the living room. They all watched him, waiting for him to let it all out and calm down.
“Bill! For God’s sake, shut up!” Riley snapped, frustrated.
He stopped and looked at her. Pongo and Missis raised their heads, as if waiting for someone to speak. The others just looked between them, expecting the worst but hoping for the best.
“It’s not going to help if someone starts freaking out. I still need to call Eric and see what’s up with the case.” She grabbed her phone and called him before Bill could respond. “Eric, have you found the suspect yet?”
His voice came over the speakerphone. “We know who it was that shot at them. But, when we went to her house, her brother said she hadn’t been home since before the shooting, and that their dad’s gun was missing. Everyone’s keeping an eye out for her and her yellow Jeep, so hopefully it won’t be long. Have you talked to Horatio yet?”
“Yeah, Maggie’s going to join me on security tomorrow. I gotta go, since Bill’s freaking out over here.”
“I’ll see you before the concert then. H asked me to be there just in case.”
“Okay, see ya tomorrow then. Adios.” She ended the call and sent Bill a look. “You need to chill out.”
“Me?!” Bill exclaimed, staring at her in shock.
“Lover’s quarrel,” Tom said quietly in a sing-song voice. Two pairs of infuriated brown eyes turned on him.
“Do you really want a 500 dollar phone thrown at you?” Riley threatened, narrowing her eyes.
Tom patted his chest and held his arms open, as if to say “go ahead and try.”
She reached across the table and grabbed Gustav’s plastic cup of water.
“No! Nononononono!” Tom yelped as he tried to curl into a ball in the chair. She threw it at him, the cup landing between his arms over his head and legs. He shrieked as the ice and water poured over him, making girlish and small animal-like noises. He jumped up and ran as quickly as he could, without his pants falling down, to the guest room.
“Now that we’re rid of that nuisance,” Riley mumbled. “Bill, seriously, calm the heck down. I’ve seen this stuff before. I know a little of what to expect. Besides, Eric’s going to be there, and I’m sure there will be some uniforms. It’s not like it will be me, Maggie, and a few other security people. Horatio protects his CSI’s.”
Bill looked slightly skeptical.
“I swear on a stack of my favorite CDs. H is already upping security to check any bags and make sure no one’s trying to take anything dangerous into the show. Trust me, if anyone tries anything, we’ll know about it in a heartbeat.”

Fourteen.
Riley was rudely awoken by her cell phone ringing loudly in her ear. She groaned, pulling the pillow from under her head and covering her head with it. After a moment, she finally swiped at it to go to speakerphone.
“You’re waking me up, whoever you are. It better be good.” She turned to glare at it, ready to go back to sleep for a little longer.
“Ry, you might want to turn on Music Now on the TV. There’s something you gotta see coming up.” It was Maggie, sounding less than chipper.
She groaned and pried herself from the bed, shuffling inside. She retrieved the remote from a chair and turned the TV on low volume.
“And now for our breaking story. Bill Kaulitz, lead singer of Tokio Hotel—” The morning reporter, a dark-haired man with a fake tan, began his report enthusiastically.
“No,” Riley whispered.
“—May have found a girlfriend right here in Miami.”
The screen went to some light blue background with shadowy designs. On the screen appeared the transcript of what she was listening to: the interview from the day before.
“Some of our sources also captured these pictures.” Up came some shots of them at various places: Bill looking over at her at lunch, them walking closely at the hospital, shots of them simply walking near each other as they entered or left interviews.
“Word is that she’s a temporary bodyguard. But is she a temporary girlfriend?”
A string of curse words, in various languages, flew from her mouth in squeaky whispers.
“My thoughts exactly. Is there seriously something between you two? I mean anything at all. It can’t be that serious yet.”
“Yeah. We’ve been having seriously rough moments, but considering the insanity we’re in, it could be worse. ****, what should I do? Bill was thinking about going public with it all after Saki was back with them, but this just crushed those plans.”
“Why don’t y’all wait for Eric and Horatio to catch this girl who’s after them? Clear the air a little before you really figure things out.”
“And catch Rodriguez, too.”
“What?! You mean the one that shot you?! He’s back?!” It was her sister’s turn to curse. “Let’s just take it all one step at a time. Deal with things as they come.”
“You know I’ve rarely done that, Mags. But that’s our only choice, so we’ll go with it. Look, I gotta start prodding the guys out of bed for their rehearsals and stuff today.”
“Well, they only have rehearsals and a pre-show meet-and-greet at the venue. And remember, banging on a pot over my head would always get me up.”
“Too bad the siren on my Hummer isn’t able to be pulled out.” Maggie chuckled at this. “See ya later.”
“Seeyas.”
She put the phone on the coffee table, watching as Georg rolled over and settled back to sleep. She thought about clanging the pot over his head, but he would be an easy one to wake up. She went quietly to the kitchen and found one of her metal pots and a wooden spoon, then quietly snuck off to Bill’s temporary bedroom. Her dogs followed a moment later, knowing what sort of racket she was going to make.
Riley smirked at her dogs, poising her hands and noisemakers directly over Bill’s head. They wagged their tails eagerly; ready to bark the moment she made noise. “One…two…three…”
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! This was followed with a chorus of sharp barking.
Bill cursed at her in German, rolling over and burying his head in the pillows. She stopped, realizing it wasn’t working as planned. She set them aside, hooked her arms around his bare waist, and yanked as hard as she could.
Which made them both a pile of tangled, mostly bare limbs on the floor. Bill was still cursing, now because he kept hitting his head on the nightstand. She could only laugh like there was no tomorrow, earning a glare from him.
A moment later, Georg appeared in the doorway, rubbing his face to wake up. “Should I ask?”
“Nein, just go dump her on top of Tom.” Bill smirked, obviously getting payback.
“Will do,” he said with a smile, understanding.
He picked her up as she tried to scramble away and carried her out of the room. She shrieked, snapped curse words, and grabbed at door moldings to stop him, all doing very little to stop him. He carried her in to the guest bedroom, waking Gustav with her loud yelp, and dropped her, literally, on top of the sleeping Tom. He woke up with a jolt just as she let herself tumble to the floor.
He looked at her, his stunned, sleepy look turning to that playboy smirk. “I knew you would come around.”

Fifteen.
Bill watched as Riley paid little attention to their rehearsal, only tapping her foot to the rhythm. She was obviously more focused on her phone, texting several people to coordinate security for that evening. Sure, that was important, but she hadn’t so much as glanced at him once in three songs. So he took matters into his own hands.
He bounced down the stairs on the side of the stage and walked over to her, still singing Raise Your Hands without missing a beat. She did a double take as he approached and leaned over her in the chair. She simply moved the phone to block his face, knowing it would annoy him. He took her phone just as she sent a text and stuck it in his back pocket.
“Bill!” She shrieked, surprised and irked. He smiled devilishly and skipped back onstage, singing beautifully. She leapt from the chair she had stolen from backstage and followed him up onstage.
Tom wandered to her and tried to use her as a wall. She gave him a look and went over to Bill, nearly making Tom fall over. Bill started singing to her, leaning to keep his back pocket and her phone as far away as possible. She crossed her arms and gave him an impatient look, enjoying his voice but also wanting her phone back.
He finished the song with one of those playful-yet-sexy looks, waiting for some response from her.
“I want my phone back.”
He rolled his eyes and gave her a hopeless look.
“Don’t roll your eyes at me, Bill Kaulitz. Just give me my d*mn phone back.”
He ran and tried to hide behind Georg, smiling as he held up her phone in a game of keep-away. The bassist looked between them, amused that he was stuck in the middle. Riley chased after him, jumping from side to side to try to catch him. After a moment of Bill taunting her in German, Georg quickly stepped away and she took the opportunity to leap at Bill. They crashed into the red velvet curtain, nearly falling over.
He now held it over her head, keeping it out her reach. She poked at his sides to tickle him, but didn’t get far. So she did the next thing that came to mind: she kissed him. She didn’t care if she messed up his perfectly spiked hair with her hand that she brought to the side of his face, he deserved it. When she saw his hand come down out of the corner of her eye, she grabbed her phone and quickly ran off backstage, laughing hysterically.
---
The concert came and went without a hitch. Riley stayed backstage, keeping watch over things by radio and what video the venue did have. They heard girls who arrived early chattering about who Bill’s girlfriend was, and they weren’t about to take any risk with jealous fans.
Now they were all just chilling outside the venue, drinking sodas as roadies, Tom, Georg, and Gustav packed up instruments and other things. Eric was toying with Riley’s phone as he talked to his sister; Speed and Calleigh were making sure the fans headed off to their cars, constantly telling them that the boys were busy packing up. Maggie, Riley, and Bill were chattering about anything that popped into their minds. Bill went off to get a bottle of water.
“So? What’s the court’s decision?” Riley asked her sister jokingly, but also serious.
“He really likes you. It’s so obvious.” Maggie froze as her sister threw her arms around her happily. “Chica, you already knew that. Calm down.”
“I know. But we weren’t even close right then and you could tell. I mean, you know and all, but still.”
“Weirdo,” she remarked after a moment.
“Arse,” she retorted.
“Wasn’t the cooler just inside the door? It doesn’t take that long to get a water.”
Riley raised an eyebrow, her hand going instinctively to her gun. Maggie grabbed her gun from chair she was next to, following her sister inside.
Just as they thought, no one was near the cooler. In fact, no roadies or band members were to be seen. There was a voice incoherently screaming from what sounded like the stage area. Riley unholstered her gun, sneaking stealthily towards the curtains. Maggie slid out of her heels that made loud noise with each step, making their movements practically silent. As they made their way out of the mostly dark backstage to the lit stage, they froze at the edge of the curtain. Riley held the muzzle of her gun near her cheek, listening to a screaming girl. A roadie glanced at them, trying to not give them away. His look was one of fright and surprise, a combination that was never good.
“SOMEONE GO GET THAT BXTCH NOW! I WANT HER TO SEE THIS! SHE’S BROKEN MY HEART, TAKING BILL!” A young female screamed.
Riley and Maggie shared a look, Riley’s out of the corner of her eye, as she had tilted her head back. They knew what this was about. They had both been hoping for the girl to be caught outside before the show, but obviously she had snuck in or something.
In a quick, swift move, Riley stepped into view of the fan, pointing her gun directly at her. Maggie calmly walked to her other side, also taking aim.
“YOU! LOOK AT THIS!” She pressed her handgun harder into Bill’s temple, holding it like the gangsters did, her hand and gun turned sideways. Bill flinched, another tear sliding slowly down his cheek. His body quivered slightly against the fan’s as he let out a deep breath, trying to keep calm.
Riley held out a hand to tell her sister to stay put and she darted quickly down the stairs and towards the fan. Her bare feet made barely a sound on the wood flooring, a slight scuffling compared to the fan’s squeaky shoes.
“I see this. Why? Everyone deserves to be happy. Just because you’re not the one to make him happy is a selfish reason to do something like this.”
Tears sprung to her eyes again. “Shut up!”
“Think about the consequences of your actions. You have your entire life ahead of you, and you’d risk jail just for someone you like and don’t actually know.”
“SHUT UP!” She yelped, aiming her gun at Riley.
A shot rang out.

Sixteen.
Bill half-expected the sterile smell of the hospital, scratchy white sheets, and annoying lights above his head. Instead, he could smell a lemony and flowery scent, felt the soft pillows he had been sleeping on for the past two nights, and the light was off to one side.
“Bill, oh thank God, you’re awake,” Riley whispered, bouncing excitedly as she knelt beside the bed. “You scared us. After I shot her, you just passed out. Are you okay? Do you want me to get you anything?”
He turned his head to her slowly, a dull ache throbbing from the back of his skull. “Nein, I’m fine. Why am I not at the hospital?”
“All of your vitals were okay, so the paramedics figured it was just stress. We all knew that taking you to the hospital would just stir up a ton of trouble, so we just brought you back here. Tom wanted to talk to you once you woke up. I’ll go get him.” She stood up from the bed, still in her clothes from earlier except for her boots, and rushed out of the room.
A moment later, Tom came in, slowly at first. “Don’t ever scare me like that again, little brother.”
---
Riley held the pillow over her head tightly, shutting out any noises as she stared at her reflection in the glass of the door. This, everything, was way too much on her. She moved her head slightly to see the reflection of her purse on the table beside her, and her boots just inside the door. And she knew precisely where her helmet was.
She took the pillow off of her head, stepped over the dogs, and grabbed her motorcycle boots. She zipped them up over her jeans quietly, noticing that Maggie, Tom, and Georg were all crashed in the living room. Maggie and Tom were slightly curled around each other on the couch, but she figured it was some short flirtation.
Taking a deep breath, she fished around in her bag for something and scribbled her cell number on a scrap of paper. She quietly stepped inside and placed it on the dining table, knowing someone would eventually find it.
Riley went quietly to the closet, careful to avoid the squeaky part of the track, and pulled out her yellow Carpe Diem racing suit, something she had run across not long after watching the movie Torque, in which the main character had an identical red suit. Trouble never came her way if she wore it, since Maggie swore she looked like a small, thin guy in it. She quietly closed the closet door, picked up her yellow helmet from beside the door, and silently left the apartment.
---
She watched as waves crashed peacefully on the shore, far from her on the boardwalk. The same two thoughts had been swirling in her mind, only changing in how they were phrased.
I don’t know why I let it get this far. We’re just going to have our hearts broken. I’m a CSI with too many issues and he’s a picture-perfect rock star. That sounds like a volatile combination.
But then again, if we’re meant to be together at all, things will just fall into place.
Riley knew she had to talk to Bill as soon as she could. She swung herself around to put her feet on concrete and ran towards her motorcycle, only to be stopped by a voice.
“Long time, no see, Bauer. Nice to see you got a boyfriend.”
She swore her heart stopped for a moment. Rodriguez. She turned around slowly, digging for her gun in her bag with one hand. “What do you want?”
“You know what I want.” He stepped away from his stolen car as he showed off his gun in his waistband. His shaved head glinted in the moonlight, as did the look in his blue eyes. “I want to kill you.”
Just as he pulled it out to aim at her, she swung her arm out to aim back.
“Oh, you have a gun now. How nice. At least you can try to defend yourself.”
She could only glare, tightening her grip. “Why don’t you just surrender now before you get hurt?”
“You jump to conclusions too quickly.” He began to pace in a circle, causing her to move to keep him away.
Just as she reached his car and he was near her motorcycle, he stopped. She paused, waiting, her heart beating out of her chest. A loud, explosive pop echoed between the two high rises they stood between, and Riley felt her breath completely knocked out of her. She crumpled to the ground, grabbing at the spot he had shot.
“Should I just finish you now or let you suffer?” He walked closer to her, gun still directly at her.
She glared up at him, adrenaline pumping through her. She quickly took aim at his chest and shot him twice. “Neither, bxtch.”
He fell to his knees, watching as the blood trickled swiftly from his chest. He looked at her in shock, wondering what had happened. Riley sat up and unzipped her jacket, revealing her Kevlar vest.
“Go to ****, you b*stard.”

Seventeen.
Tom swore Maggie’s shriek could have woken a dead person. He and Georg covered their ears with what pillows they could find, finding it unbearably piercing.
“She WHAT?! Eric, let me talk to her NOW!” She proceeded to break into hysterical tears, pacing for a moment, sitting in the chair, and pacing again. When Tom tried to make her sit and calm down, she smacked him away.
“Riley! Oh thank God! WHAT THE **** DID YOU DO?!” She paused as her sister explained what had shown up on the morning news. “You better be alright, or I’ll pound you in for nearly getting yourself KILLED.”
Bill walked out, right on cue as she yelled the last word. He looked at Maggie, who was nearly pulling her hair out, and the other band members, who waited impatiently for news.
“Is that Riley? Is she okay? What’s going on?” He questioned, cranky from being awoken by her yelling.
She waved him off. “You’re coming home in a few hours? Oh thank God. But the guys will be gone by then. I think they want to say goodbye before they go.” Maggie sighed. “Okay, I’ll tell them.” With that, she hung up.
Immediately she was bombarded with questions. She waited for them to finish before explaining the entire story to them.
“She really wanted to talk to you guys, but she had to argue with Internal Affairs just to talk to me.”
Bill dropped onto the couch, staring at the floor. They were leaving that evening, once they had Saki back. He sensed their relationship was in for a reality check.

Eighteen.
The lighter-haired twin saw them off when David Jost showed up for them. She gave Bill a reassuring hug and Riley’s two phone numbers, telling him to call her in a few days.
Days, weeks passed as the two Bauers settled back into life without mayhem. Riley had to go through a month of IAB-forced psychiatry, but Rodriguez was gone from her mind the moment the last session ended, a finished chapter in the book of her life.
But was the chapter with the Kaulitz completed? Riley thought so, since they had been wrapped up in touring and working on a greatest hits album. Bill had continued to mention ‘someone he met in Miami’ as a possible love interest, but he never called her except for one time a few minutes before a flight to say that he missed her. She knew that life as a rock star had dragged him off, and that she shouldn’t be holding her breath.
The paparazzi bugged her for a few weeks, until they realized that Bill wasn’t about to show up. One or two would hang around the crime lab or a scene until uniforms chased them off with the threat of charging them with loitering or something else they could use.
One bright and shiny morning, as Riley was making a large breakfast for her, Eric, and Maggie, her cell rang. She knew it was one of the two, changing their mind about something to eat. She picked up without checking the caller ID, ready with a snappy remark.
“I don’t change breakfast orders less than a half hour before you’re supposed to be here.”
A slight static noise came from the other end. “…What?”
She recognized that German accent anywhere. “Bill?”
“Ja! Who did you think I was?”
“Mags or Eric, they’re supposed to be coming over for breakfast.” His accent was thicker than before, probably from being back in Germany for a few weeks. She hopped onto the counter by the sink, her favorite spot. “What’s up?”
“Saki talked to someone he knows in the police here in Hamburg. They have a position open as a CSI here because someone moved to Berlin. There’s not much crime here, but just enough for a small team.”
She nearly dropped the phone in a drying cup. “You mean me move to Germany?! Bill, we’ve barely talked in I don’t know how long! Everything is here in Miami for me.”
“What about someone who loves you?”
Her mouth went dry. She felt backed into a corner, but knew he didn’t mean to do that. “I mean, it’s just a lot to think about. It’s not a snap decision, I need to think about what I’m doing.”
Maggie came in, keys jingling in her hand. She sang some new pop song loudly and off-key, knowing it would annoy her. Riley’s new liver-spotted dog, Perdita, began barking excitedly. She had found the dog roaming the streets one day as they looked for a witness, and no one claimed her. Realizing it was practically a moment right out of her favorite book, she didn’t hesitate on the name.
“Look, Maggie’s here. Talk to ya later.” She hung up before Maggie could waltz into the kitchen and interrogate her about the call. “Maggie! SHUT UP!”
Riley never called him back. Why? Because her sister dragged her to a spa and shopping for a few days, making her ditch the cell at home. By the time she got home, she knew it was too late to fix what had started.
But then again, if we’re meant to be together at all, things will just fall into place.

Part Two.
One.
The fall air nipped at Riley’s nose at she strode down the street. Her olive green coat was wrapped tightly around her, leaving only her old lounge pants and flip flops for the world to see.
Some things would never change with her.
Pongo darted ahead to chase after a bird, yanking her, Missis, and Perdita along with him. The other two dogs were happy to join him, but Riley wasn’t used to sudden jolts, especially when she was trying to text her sister.
At first glance, she didn’t look like the beachy, laidback Riley that had been Bill’s possible love interest a few months before. Her hair had grown out a few inches, falling somewhere in the middle of her back, her wardrobe had changed because of her sister, and she actually wore a little bit of makeup daily.
Her setting had changed immensely also. Now Hamburg was her home, after the chief of police had called her directly, wanting her to come and work for them. She questioned him for several minutes, wondering if Bill or Saki had gotten him to do this. But nein, he had looked over her information on the computer after hearing about her from Saki, and thought she was the best choice for a replacement. He had even helped pay for some of her belongings, other than clothes and the dogs, to make it to Germany.
Her parents gladly bought her a new apartment, knowing she would pay them back as much as she could afford at a time. They were sad their daughter was leaving the States, but it was something she truly wanted, so they never refused to help her. She actually found an apartment that wasn’t too far from where Bill and Tom reportedly lived, but she had yet to run into them.
They didn’t know she had moved, since she hadn’t dared to call Bill. She knew he would be seriously hurt after she hadn’t called him back, and she dreaded making the call. Even Saki didn’t know, as he didn’t recognize her one day in a cafe. The only people she really knew were those at work, who she got along with beautifully, and an English girl named Bridget who had spilt coffee on her one day and offered her a new shirt, which led to shopping and friendship. She actually now lived with Riley, since she could no longer afford the rent at her old place.
Perdita, enthused by Pongo, darted after a pigeon. She succeeded in tangling Riley up in leashes, sending her tumbling to the ground.
“AAAACK! Perdita! God!” She exclaimed, scrambling to her feet and dusting herself off. Pongo jumped up on her and began licking her face, trying to apologize or hide something that was going on. “Pongo, get off please!”
---
Little did Riley know, she was being watched by someone in their apartment across the street. He toweled off his dripping black hair, wondering how in the world she had gotten herself and her dogs all the way to Germany. A plane, of course, but she looked so at home on his road, far from where she had been.
Her yelling of the dogs’ names reached his ears, and something clicked in his head. He wandered away from the window, knowing Tom wouldn’t care for the idea, since they already had a cat and a dog, but would still let him do it. Sure, he had been hurt when she hadn’t returned his call, but that wasn’t going to stop him from trying to give it a second chance.

Two.
Riley ran and slipped along the sidewalk, the rain soaking through her hoodie and nice work blazer. The dogs trotted along beside and ahead of her, not minding the rain one bit. She cursed as she nearly lost her balance, sliding to a stop underneath a large, leafy tree. Only a few drops of water got through the thick layer of leaves, plopping on the dogs’ heads as they sniffed around.
She heard someone jog over to her safe spot under the tree, two dogs with him or her. She didn’t glance up as she wrung water from her jacket, figuring they were seeking the same shelter as she.
“It’s a lovely day,” the person commented sarcastically. In English.
Riley froze. She recognized that voice. Her head whipped up as fast as humanly possible, looking at him with wide eyes. “Bill?”
He blinked at her, a smile playing at his lips. He only had a little bit of eyeliner on, and his hair was flattened down by a beanie. “Why are you in Hamburg?”
“I…well, it’s kind of a long story.” She gave him a summarized version of everything that had happened since she hadn’t called him back, starting with the reason why she never did.
Finally, a few minutes later, she finished. “And that leads us to here, under this tree, soaking wet.”
Bill’s two dogs, a black-haired mix and a liver-spotted Dalmatian, randomly jumped on her to lick her face. He wrestled them down as she stood there with a stunned look, wiping slobber from her face.
“I’m sorry about that—oh, ****.”
They both looked at the mud smeared all over her upper half, not flattering in the least. With a huff, she wrestled it off to reveal her drenched cream blazer and her blue blouse that was soaked enough to outline her black bra.
Lovely, just lovely, she thought bitterly. She crossed her arms in an attempt to look less drenched.
“Why don’t you come to my apartment for awhile? You can dry off and I can take you home when your clothes are dry.”
“Oh no, that’s fine. It’s only twelve blocks back to my place.” Bill blinked at her for a moment. “Alright.”
---
The dogs practically went crazy as they were unleashed in the large apartment, chasing each other and checking things out. Bill took her two soaked jackets and led her to the small laundry room so he could search for something suitable for her. After he searched around the stuffed clean basket, he pulled out one of Tom’s giant shirts.
“That’s all you got for me?” She wondered after a moment, thinking out loud.
“Ja. Tom would be turned on by that.”
She snorted. “I really don’t want to know what he thinks. He’s not the one that I moved to Germany for.” Being a quick-change artist from summers of practice, she handed over her wet clothes a moment later, now covered in a giant white t-shirt that could have easily been a giant cotton garbage bag.
They wandered to the kitchen, where Bill began to search for something for dinner. “Do you mind pasta for dinner?”
Riley paused as she pulled her phone from her bag. “Dinner? I can get mine at home.”
“Nein, I insist. Tom just won’t get as much. My dogs got mud all over your jacket, it’s the least I can do.” He placed a few things on the counter, looking at her.
“Okay, well, pasta’s fine with me.” She scanned through some new texts from several people, stopping on one from Bridget.
Hey girlie. I’m going out with some bassist from a band tonight, so you’re on your own for dinner. TTYL.
She sighed, now having no way out. Her thoughts were racing around in her head, all revolving around Bill. Without even thinking, she spoke. “Bill, is there some way we can kinda start over? Y’know, forget the bad stuff.”
He smiled. “Ja, I would like that.”
They hugged each other tightly, and within a few moments the hug turned into a kiss. Neither of them noticed as someone slammed the front door and yelped as he was greeted by a mass of dogs.
“Whoa! Bill! I didn’t want to see that!” Tom exclaimed as he saw them in the kitchen. He turned away, only glancing back to check if they were still making out. “Riley?! What are you doing here?!”
She looked at him and smirked. “What does it look like?”
He groaned, covering his face with his hands, and shuffled off to his room.

Three.
“Tom, it would be ten times less annoying if you just took a picture and stopped staring,” Riley commented, stabbing at a few pieces of pasta.
“What?” He asked innocently, looking up at her. “You just come back to Bill suddenly, and nothing is wrong. Bill was very upset when you never called him back. He cried because of you. And you act like nothing happened.”
Bill glared at his brother. “Tom, it’s our relationship. It’s our problem.”
“I just don’t want to see you hurt again,” he responded quietly.
Riley practically threw down her fork as she jumped to her feet. She snatched her bag from the chair next to her and nearly ran to the door. She didn’t care that she was only in a thin white shirt and it was raining outside, she wasn’t going to sit there and take that. Her dogs loyally followed after her, sticking close.
“Tom! You just don’t want to see us together after she didn’t call back! Her sister took her phone for a few days! She couldn’t call me back! And when she got it back, she was afraid to call because she was upset and knew I would be. **** you.” He pushed his chair away, dashing after her.
He caught up with her a flight down, sitting on the stairs. He looked at her for a moment as she tugged a few tangles out of her hair, and sat next to her.
“He’s just watching out for me, for once in his life.”
She smiled slightly. “I know. But I never ever meant to hurt you. Especially after dealing with my sister for several days, I just didn’t know how to work things out with you. I knew one little thing would tick me off from putting up with her, and I can be vicious when I’m angry.”
“You don’t need to explain yourself. Come on, I told him off, so he should leave you alone.”
Just as they got up and began to return upstairs, Tom called to them. “Riley! Someone’s calling!” She raced up the stairs, knowing that no one called on weekdays unless it was an emergency. He held out her phone as she reached the door, and she snatched it to answer.
“Bauer.”
“Riley, we have a big scene. They need all of us as soon as possible. I’ll text you the address.” It was Kendra, the co-supervisor of the team, and her good friend out of their group.
“Okay, I’ll be there as soon as I can.” She hung up. “Bill, I can you take me home?”
“Um, sure. Let me go get my keys.” He brushed past Tom to go find his keys in the apartment.
She and Tom looked at each other for a moment. “Are we cool, Tom?”
“Ja, we’re cool.”
---
Bill stopped his sports car in front of her apartment. He reached over and pulled the hood of his jacket, which she was borrowing, over her head. “Do you have any plans Friday?”
Technically she did, but Bridget could watch the movie with the dogs. “Not really.”
“Would you like to go out?”
“Sure.” She ushered the dogs out of the car. “Just call me later, okay? I’ll be in trouble if I don’t get moving.”
He was only able to stop her for a short kiss, before she jumped out of the car, said her goodbye, and raced up the steps and inside the building.

Ah, much better.
Four.
“Finally! We’re in need of more hands around here,” Kendra exclaimed as Riley got off her motorcycle. She sealed the evidence bag in her hand, placing it in a small stack beside her kit. She was a young woman of medium build, with auburn hair and hazel eyes. Her look was usually piercing and serious, but it could easily become playful.
“Sorry I took so long, I was busy.” She pulled the helmet off and smoothed out her ponytail, untangling her kit from her creative work of tying it to the seat.
“It’s cool. Sergio is the late one, so he gets more to process. And since when are you a Tokio Hotel fan? I thought you mostly listened to that country music.” She eyed the blonde curiously.
“What?” Kendra nodded at her hoodie, which was the same one Bill had let her borrow, the one he had designed himself. “Oh, I borrowed it from a friend.” She wriggled it off, knowing it wasn’t professional and that it would only bring some whispered gossip among the team.
Kendra ducked under the tape to her, pulling off her dirty gloves. “Riley, I recognize that jacket from a concert a friend got tickets to a few months ago. That’s the same one Bill Kaulitz, the lead singer, had on. It’s his personal version, with his name stitched on the arm. Whatever it is, you can tell me. I promise I won’t tell the others if you don’t want me to.”
“Don’t tell them.” She sighed and glanced around furtively, making sure the others weren’t near. “Y’know that girl Bill referred to that he met in Miami?”
“Ja?”
“That was me. It’s a long, insane story, but we just ran into each other earlier, and now we have a date for Friday.”
Kendra stared at her in surprise for a moment, almost wondering whether it was the truth or not. “Dang. Good luck dating a rock star. But if you can survive the press with this job, you can survive the paparazzi. But, I don’t know if you know this, Tokio Hotel has tons upon tons of screaming, spastic fangirls. They’ll seriously try to rip you apart if they find out you’re with Bill.”
At least she knew that Saki liked her and would try to protect her. Besides, she had her own gun for protection. Hopefully that could hold off the fans.
---
It was well after midnight when Riley got home. She shuffled into the apartment, her kit in one hand and her helmet and keys in the other. Beside the door, she kicked her converse off and dumped her belongings, wandering over to the couch. She jumped over the back to land beside Bridget, startling as her roomie appeared.
“Big scene, huh? What’s with the jacket?” She looked at the jacket Kendra had recognized earlier, knowing exactly whose it was. “Why do you have the jacket of a world-famous rock star?”
She stole some popcorn from the large bowl in Bridget’s lap. “Don’t ask.”
“I already did. Spill or no more popcorn.” She brushed some of her curly blonde hair out of her face, blue eyes sparkling mischievously.
Riley sighed and told her everything, or at least enough to satisfy her friend’s curiosity. “We have a date for Friday.”
Bridget’s mouth dropped open. Riley groaned and went off to the kitchen, rummaging around for a meal. After a moment, the other woman pulled her blanket away and followed after her to the kitchen.
“I’ll spill something too. Y’know the bassist I went out with tonight?” Riley glanced at her, her way of saying yes. “It’s Georg.”
She choked on the sip of water she had taken. “No way.”
“We’re in the same boat, girlie.”
“The fans are goin’ to murder us.”
“Yes, yes they are.” They could only laugh in hopes that the fans would be happy for the boys, not rip them apart limb from limb.
if you somehow find foreshadowing, I'll beat you over the head with a stick. xD

Sorry it took so long...got busy with other things.
Five.
Saki was only steps behind them as they approached the small Italian restaurant, which was tucked away in a place where you’d only find it if you stumbled across it. But, it was obviously popular enough for a few paparazzi to swarm them as they approached. Immediately, the bodyguard got in front of them and kept the photographers from setting off their flashes in front of their faces.
“Bill! Bill Kaulitz! Are you on a date? Who is she?” They all questioned as they snapped away. It was obviously her attire that tipped them off, since he was in his usual jeans, a TH shirt, one of his leather jackets, and his hair only slightly fluffy.
So this was why he had told her countless times on the phone to wear sunglasses. Sure, they recognized him even with sunglasses, but with her glasses covering half of her face, even Bridget barely recognized her as she was searching the living room for her heels, dressed in a short black dress with her yellow racing jacket over it.
Bill noticed her hand tense in his, obviously not used to the attention. He gripped it tighter, sending her a reassuring smile. She couldn’t help but smile back.
She didn’t know they had reached the restaurant until Saki was ushering them in, grumbling something at a pushy photographer. It was very traditional-looking inside, with a rustic theme and even waiters babbling in a mix of German and Italian. An older man quickly rushed over to them, recognizing Bill, and showed them to a table somewhere in the middle of the sparsely-crowded place.
“Willkommen! What can I get for both of you this fine evening?” He smiled sweetly, trying to make a good impression.
“Water, danke,” Riley answered. Bill pondered for a moment before ordering a soda.
A twenty-something waiter handed them menus quietly and went to go take someone else’s order. The old man went off to get their drinks.
A long, awkward silence passed. Bill tapped his foot against the side of the chair, making a light clicking sound, as he looked around curiously. Riley skimmed through the menu, knowing she had plenty of time. A moment later, a waiter returned with their drinks.
Bill sipped on his for a moment before speaking. “So…how has Germany been for you?”
“It’s been good. I mean, I’ve been working on scenes a lot, since we’re the only CSI’s in the city, but overall it’s good. How’s the music?”
“Sehr gut, sehr gut. We’re just now starting to work on a new CD, writing some lyrics.”
Her phone beeped, announcing a text message. She pulled it out of her purse and started laughing after she saw the picture. She passed it to him, and he first looked baffled before realizing and laughing. It was a picture of Tom and Maggie in Tom’s car near the airport, one looking gangster and the other failing at looking like one. Maggie was in town to spend some time with Tom, her sister, and talking with some music biz guys for some reason Riley was too bored to listen to.
---
After dinner, and after eluding the paparazzi, Bill and Riley were walking through a park hand-in-hand. After a moment, Bill took off running and jumped directly in a puddle from an earlier rain. The water splashed all over his jeans and even landed on Riley some. She pulled off her good heels and jogged after him, jumping into a nearby puddle. It was on.
The bounced from puddle to puddle, trying to splash each other as much as they could. After a few minutes, they jumped at the same puddle and collided with each other. Bill knocked Riley into the grass, nearly falling on top of her. She laughed for a moment, realizing how weird they were being. But one look into his dark-lined eyes, and she could only smile. He kissed her on the lips, which turned into a short make-out session.
She broke away after a few minutes. “Bill, the grass is wet, and so is my back.”
He could only laugh.
---
Riley closed the door quietly behind her, tossing her heels towards the corner and placing the bag on the side table next to her. She sighed happily, replaying the date in her head.
The perfect date.
After a moment of reminiscing, she heard something that pulled her from her thoughts. A moment later, Georg sat up on the couch and looked at her. He was shirtless and slightly out of breath.
“Georg? What’re you—?”
Bridget sat up, bare on top except for her pink bra. “Hey Ry...we weren’t expecting you for awhile...”
“Oh. *******. I’ll just...uh...” She grabbed her purse and sprinted to her room, slamming the door loudly.

Feel very loved. Two chapters in one night.
Six.
A week later, the band and their girlfriends were out at a club. Bridget and Georg had disappeared somewhere in the large crowd, Maggie and Tom could be seen every so often, dancing closely and spending every moment of her last night in Germany together, and Gustav was talking to a mysterious brunette at the bar. Bill and Riley were contentedly occupying the band’s semi-circle booth, being all-around nutcases together. They were dancing while sitting, trying to sing along with songs despite barely being able to hear them, and trying to directly avoid questions about their relationship from interviewers who had somehow gotten in.
As the night got late and turned into early the next morning, Riley’s roommate and the bassist were nowhere to be found. Bill seemed to be slightly worried, but she told him about what had happened the week before. He simply looked away, guzzling down half of his soda as she chuckled at him. Tom and Maggie left soon after so she could get back to her hotel and finish packing. Gustav went home, tired from getting up early to go to a recording.
Finally, Bill and Riley went back to her apartment. And, well, need I say more?
---
The next morning, Riley rolled over and had to smile when she saw Bill lying next to her. She was about to wake him up, but he looked too peaceful to bother. So she found some clothes to put on and wandered out to the couch, where she crashed out and turned the TV on a low volume. Catching up on celebrity gossip and watching cartoons had become a weekend ritual for her and Bridget, and she was going to continue with or without the roomie. Perdita jumped on top of her while Missis and Pongo continued to lounge on the loveseat and chair.
“Did Bill Kaulitz’s love interest from Miami come to Germany just for him?”
She stopped her staring contest with the dog to stare at the TV.
“Exclusive to us, we have uncovered a lot of info on the young woman the singer was interested in a few months ago. Her name is Riley Bauer. She recently took up a position as a CSI in Hamburg after leaving the same job in Miami. She was also the temporary bodyguard for Tokio Hotel while they were in Miami on tour. That’s where the romance began.”
She could only watch in amazement as they went through much of what they had gone through in the past few months, dragging up the awful incident after the concert. It all ended with pictures of them getting into Bill’s car the night before, and pictures from their date the week before. Having their personal life all over German TV had ruined her morning, so she wandered back to the bedroom and flopped onto the bed beside him.
Bill stirred for a moment and finally rolled over. He moved over to kiss her cheek, since most of her face was buried in a pillow. “Guten morgen.”
She said something along the same lines, but it was hard to tell with the pillow.
“What’s wrong?” He brushed some of her hair back, remembering that she had only had one beer at the club, so she couldn’t be hung-over.
She moved her head to look at him. “Our personal life ain’t so personal anymore. There was just a lovely five-minute story about us on TV.”
“Und?”
“And I kinda like my privacy.”
“I’m a famous singer. Little privacy comes with it. Why does it matter?”
“I just wasn’t expecting our relationship to be looked into and posted for pretty much the entire world to see.” She had never really thought about how this would affect her own life until it had been shown on TV.
“There’s only one thing that matters. I love you.”
She stared into his eyes for a moment before she smiled. “I love you too.”

Yo' wish be my command. xD
Seven.
Not long after the story broke, there was a media firestorm surrounding them and the band. The others were hounded for information about the relationship, and Bill and Riley were followed closely for developments in the relationship. Not long after the media began watching them, her mail address was found out, and she and Bridget were bombarded with tons of mail from Tokio Hotel fans. Some wished her and Bill luck in their relationship (but if they broke up the writer would be more than happy to comfort him), and some threatened her with violence for taking their ‘beloved Bill.’ He told her to ignore it, since he knew that fans all adored him and thought they could be with him one day.
Seasons changed, life went on not much differently than it had before. Eventually, a year had passed. Bill and Riley had moved into a house with Tom and his girlfriend, Erin. Maggie hadn’t been affected in the slightest bit at the news, insisting that she and Tom had only been good friends.
Life was good for Tokio Hotel and their girlfriends.
Riley was curled up in the large plush comforter, her blonde hair just visible between the bedspread and the pillow she had buried her head under. Bill leaned on the doorframe, one foot casually crossed over the other, and his arms crossed over his chest. He shook his head at her, wondering how she had managed to sleep in so late.
He ran and took a flying leap at her to land on the bed. She grumbled something and pulled the comforter tighter around her.
“C’mon Riley! Wake up!” He began jumping on the bed like a five-year-old, ignoring the whines and insults being hurled at him. After a moment, he stopped and laid on top of her, moving the pillow away slowly to stare at her.
“Bill, go ‘way. I’m tryin’ to sleep.” She pulled the pillow away from the smiley, spiky-haired nuisance and covered her face with it.
“You made a promise. You said you would go. Erin’s going.” He folded his hands on her covered shoulder, setting his chin on them to appear completely innocent.
She groaned, cursing loudly. “That’s today? Why didn’t you get me up earlier?”
“Your alarm went off. I heard it in the kitchen. Und Tom yelled for five minutes because one of the dogs had his hat. I thought for sure you would have come out and yelled at him then.” He blinked innocently, knowing it usually calmed her down.
“Then can you please get off so I can go get ready?”
“Nein.” He smirked.
She reached to grab a pillow, but he held down both of her wrists to keep her from attacking his meticulously done mane.
“Bill, come on. I can’t go if you don’t get off of me.”
“Neither can I.”
She glared at him, annoyed. She stretched up as much as she could, placing her lips on his. He finally let go of her wrists, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“Come on you two lovebirds! Haven’t you put me through enough torture?” Tom groaned from the doorway, turning away.
“Nein!” They both informed him.

Eight.
Riley nearly crashed into the armrest of the park bench, her head falling into her hands. She felt one tear slide down her cheek, and she quickly swiped it away. She was too strong for tears; she couldn’t let stupid guys get under her skin.
Sure, she had been stupid to run out and not let him explain, but a picture is worth a thousand words. This was worth a couple thousand to the tabloids.
She had also been stupid to let herself fall in love with a rock star. There was too much that came with them: overly adoring fans, paparazzi, schedules. She had gotten used to little privacy away from home and the schedules, but she had never gotten used to the fans that bombarded them whenever they went places.
It seemed ironic that the only thing she really disliked about the fame was now the downfall of the relationship.
---Flashback
The interviewer pulled out a clipped article, a picture taking up most of the clipping. Riley’s jaw dropped when she saw the picture: it was Bill and some brunette, who was in a band shirt and had the logo drawn on her cheek, kissing. The date in the corner said it was nearly a month old.
“Oh *******,” Bill whispered.
“Well, I was going to ask how you explained this to your girlfriend, but her expression seems to say you didn’t,” the interviewer murmured, not wanting to spark anything.
“Nein, he somehow forgot to mention that he’s been doing things behind my back,” Riley responded bitterly.
“Ry, I can explain—” Bill began, turning to her.
“You’re a little late to be explaining that.” Not wanting to fight with him, especially in front of a reporter, and Tom and Erin, she picked up her purse and left. She made sure to slam the door behind her.
A moment later, he came into the hall and tried to go after her. “Ry, listen to me! It’s not what you think!”
“Don’t talk to me, Bill.” She stepped into the elevator, pressed a button, and let the doors close, avoiding his look.

Nine.
Somehow, Riley caught herself a cab and had it drop her down the street from their house. A few minutes into the ride, the cabbie recognized her and asked where Bill was. She gave him some vague answer, making it very obvious that she was in a bad mood.
So, there she was, sitting in the grass in the middle of the backyard, the sun beating down on her arm as it covered her face. The dogs were wandering around, checking out bushes and plants, but Perdita was sticking close to her. The dog barely moved from her side, trying to comfort her.
After some time passed, Riley heard footsteps approach her and stop next to her. She finally looked over to see Bill, his eyeliner smudged and his eyes slightly puffy and pink.
“Riley, please listen to me.” He sat down, his eyes pleading with hers.
“Fine. I’m listening.”
“She was just some fan.”
“I figured that out already, thank you.”
“I didn’t think she would do something like that. I brought her onstage to sing with her, but then she took advantage of that.”
“I forgive you for the fact that it wasn’t your fault. But I still don’t understand how something like that could have slipped your mind. A day or two is one thing; an entire month is a different story.”
“Ry, I would never intentionally keep something from you. I completely forgot because we had a short interview after the concert, and he hadn’t seen it.”
She looked at him for a moment and moved her arm back over her eyes. A minute silently passed, save for the dogs disturbing the bushes. Bill finally pulled her arm away to look at her.
“Please forgive me.”
She nibbled at the inside of her lip, keeping herself from saying something. It was a habit that had always annoyed him, so he leaned over and captured her lips.
“A’ight, I forgive you. But if this happens again, you have twenty-four hours before I’ll go crazy on ya for not telling me.”

Ten.
Bill sighed happily as Jost and the others told him that he was done for the day. Just as he pulled the headphones off and tried to fix some of his stray hairs, he saw Riley appear on the other side of the glass as the others were leaving.
“Hey! What are you doing here?” His face lit up more than it normally did when he saw her. They had been hard at work on a new album for the past few weeks, and she had been neck-deep in paperwork and recertification. She was usually gone or leaving when he was getting up, and either busy with something or already in bed from exhaustion by the time they were getting back.
They shared a bedroom, but not much else during those weeks.
“It was kinda hard to miss your message on the bathroom mirror this morning. I got off work super early today since I’ve been working so much overtime, and I did a ton of the paperwork. Or were you just trying to get my attention?” She smirked and raised an eyebrow at him, wondering if his offer of shopping was real or not.
“It’s nice to know it worked. Well?”
“Well what?”
“Are you ready to go shopping?”
“With Bill Kaulitz, the person who is now taking over my side of the closet with his wardrobe? It’s payback time.”
“Ay, you let me use the extra space.”
She shook her head, chuckling to herself. “C’mon, dummy. Let’s go.”
---
“Nein…nein…nein…nein. Ew, nein,” Bill vetoed several dresses that the salesperson intended to take to Riley. He knew her style all too well, but she was the one who stole some of his shirts every so often, so it was beyond easy to know that she would refuse to wear a giant stack of ruffles.
A moment later, Riley came twirling out of the dressing room, looking much like a dog chasing its tail as she tried to grab the elusive tie on the back of the dress. He turned as her heard her, squeaking when she spun into him.
“Oh, whoa, sorry,” she muttered.
“Here,” he wrestled the ties out of her hands and tied it for her. “It looks good.”
“You’ve said that about the past three I’ve tried on, dear,” she responded sarcastically, knowing he only liked to use the syrupy sweet words on her.
He glared at her in the mirror, eyeing her up in the strapless black dress that fit her perfectly to her hips, where it flared out slightly.
She smoothed it out some before noticing him. She turned around and crossed her arms, smirking. “Are you checking me out, Mr. Kaulitz?”
He mirrored her stance and look, acting nonchalant. “Maybe.”
She rolled her eyes and turned back to the mirror, eyeing it from every angle possible.
“Ry, it’s fine. Come on, I need to get my outfit.”
She pointedly ignored him. After a moment, she noticed someone in the background of the mirror, grabbed Bill’s hand, and dragged him into her dressing room.
“What the—? Nein, whatever Erin told you her and Tom did, I’m not doing it.” He made a move to leave, but she yanked him back.
“God, I’m not the insane, sex-crazed nut like they are. There’s a salesperson out there that I know from high school. The only time she ever talked civilly to Mags and I was when Mags was dating a football player. Any time other than that, she would ignore you unless you were the only person that she even knew,” she rambled quickly and quietly.
He blinked at her. “So what is the problem?”
She slapped her forehead with her palm. “I just explained that. She was basically a bxtch to my sister and me unless she had a good reason to be nice.”
A hand appeared from the other side of the curtain and tugged it open. A young woman, with bleach blonde hair and a perfect tan. “Oh! Oh mein Gott! I’m sorry! I’ll just—Riley? Riley Bauer?”
Bill could feel Riley tense in the grip she still had on his arm.
“Hi…Carrielynn,” she responded, clearly not too excited about the reunion.
“How are you? How’s your sister? I thought you moved to Miami, what’re you doing here? And since when are you dating a rock star?” She gave him a flirtatious look, which caused Riley to only tighten her grip.
“I’m good, Maggie’s good, I live here now, and it’s been more than a year, so clearly someone doesn’t keep up on her celebrities like she used to.” She suddenly became snippy, obviously accustomed to being the interrogator.
“Whoa, sorry, didn’t mean to hit a nerve. I have a child now, so the only things I really have time for are work and family. She was always a sweet little thing in school, always helped everyone,” she informed Bill, who simply raised his eyebrows in slight interest.
“Yeah, well, I grew out of that. The old saying of ‘what goes around comes around’ never really came into play.”
“Well, I was always nice to you. Look, my husband and I are throwing a little housewarming this Friday. I’d love it if you could come.”
Bill looked at Riley, knowing their only plans were to watch a movie and talk to Maggie until they were crying from laughing. “We have plans,” she lied.
“Oh, that’s too bad. Are you sure you can’t stop by, just for a little bit?” She clearly was inviting them just to brag that she had a famous singer at her otherwise dull party.
“We’ll have to see.” She pulled two dresses from the hook beside her. “Would you mind putting these back for me?”
She smiled sweetly and added them to her stack of clothes in her arms. “Sure. I’ll give my address to the cashier to give to you, okay? See you later!”
Once Riley heard her out of earshot, she sighed loudly. “God, that was painful.”
“So we’re not going to her party?”
“Hxll no. Now, get out so I can change.”
He smirked. “Why? I've already seen—”
“Just go, smartarse.” She shoved him out playfully, rolling her eyes.

Eleven.
Riley yawned as she hung up a blouse, so bored that she had resorted to organizing some of her closet space. She turned to grab another blouse and noticed Bill in the doorway, holding the slip of paper she recognized from the day before, the one in Carrielynn’s curly script.
“Nein,” she told him, not pausing.
“Ry, you’re hanging up clothes. You only organize the closet when you’re bored to death.”
She gave him one of those looks. “I’d rather do this than put up with her. And why do you want to go all of a sudden?”
“…Tom dared me to convince you to go.”
“And you think you can?”
“I’m the famous Bill Kaulitz. And your boyfriend.”
She hung it up and went over to him so that their faces were only a few inches apart, her body nearly pressed against his. “So you think you have me wrapped around your finger?”
He blinked, smirking.
“Think again, bud.” He felt her lips brush ever so slightly against his, teasing him.
“But if I lose, I have to draw on your face with eyeliner when you’re asleep.”
She left the room silently, and he could just barely hear her footsteps on the stairs. A moment later, he heard a loud shriek and a mouthful of cursing from Tom, and then Riley cursing back at him. Finally, someone stomped up the stairs and back into the room. It was Tom, Riley fighting to get her wrists out of his grip, and a red hand-shaped mark was growing brighter on his cheek.
“Why did you tell her?” Tom snapped, flinching as she dug her nails into his arm.
“She wouldn’t agree to it unless she knew what would happen to her.”
Riley finally kicked him in the back of the knees and got free, glaring at him. “You wanna mess with me, Tom Kaulitz? Bring it.”
He jumped back to his feet and rolled his eyes at her. “Please. Don’t lie to yourself. I’m bigger, smarter, faster…sexier. Besides, I bet you wouldn’t go to that party for anything.”
“Name your stakes, Kaulitz.”
“Fifty Euros says you won’t.”
“Then get ready to pay up. We’re goin’ to that party.”
---
Bill could tell Riley was bored out of her mind, listening to some people she didn’t know gossip about celebrities, who thought that she would know about them, being in the spotlight herself. Of course, he was bored, too, pulled into a conversation about the German music industry.
She glanced over at him, signaling that they’d stay for ten more minutes. He nodded and wandered over to the drinks. She followed after him, figuring that they could stick together and be ignored for those last minutes.
“I’ll have to thank Tom for making me waste the past hour and a half of my life,” she told him sarcastically.
He smiled.
“Oh mein Gott, if my husband took longer than me to do his hair, I’d leave him in a heartbeat. I love my men manly.”
Both Riley and Bill looked over at Carrielynn, who was chattering away with her married friends. Her hair was perfectly made up, her tan looked freshly done, and her outfit was entirely pink and expensive-looking. Riley inhaled deeply and walked over to the hostess, tapping her on the shoulder.
“Riley! What can I do for you, dear?” She plastered on a sickly sweet smile.
“One, you can stop being the fake you’ve always been. I see through it now, I saw through it when we were in high school. Two, never try to be a suck-up to me or my sister again. And three, just never talk to me ever, okay? I’m sick of dealing with you and your…Barbie-ness.”
Carrielynn’s jaw hung open in complete amazement, never having been told off like that. “You….you bxtch.”
“That’s all you got? Wow. At least my friends aren’t my friends because of my money or who I’m with. Oh, and the nice thing about not-so-manly men is that they actually listen and don’t just cut you a check to shut you up. C’mon Bill, this party’s not nearly as fun as I expected.” She grabbed his hand and they headed for the door.
“Auf Weidersehen!” Bill said brightly with a big smile, wiggling his fingers in goodbye.

I'm bored, and I don't feel like doing my Spanish. So, y'all get another chapter.
Feel loved. Feel very loved.
Twelve.
“Bill, you’re not helping,” Riley exclaimed as she yanked the shirt away from him.
“Why can’t someone else go?” He whined, flopping down on the bed beside one of the dogs, finally surrendering. He had been taking things from the suitcase when she wasn’t looking, but she had caught on and was slightly irritated with him.
“I’m the only one who can speak decent English and one of three people on the case.” She folded the shirt back up and threw it on top of the other clothes.
He sighed and leaned his head against a pillow, contemplating what their first time apart was going to be like.
Painful…
Dull…
Boring…
Ten million pranks from Tom…
No ice cream stealing…
No one complaining about hairspray all over the counter…
No long walks with the dogs, talking about random things…
No one to bug in the morning when sleeping late…
Bill launched himself through the air to hug her tightly as she appeared with a blouse. She stumbled a bit, caught off-guard, and hugged him back.
“I’m only going to be gone for a week, if it even takes that long. I’d say you could come along, but I have to stay with one of the detectives because the hotels are booked up for some awards going on, and I really need to focus on the case.” He stayed attached to her as she walked to the suitcase, put the blouse in, and zipped it shut. “Look, I promise I’ll call every night, okay? And if you don’t unglue yourself from me, we’re goin’ to be late getting there.”
---
Riley brushed at her eyelash absently, trying to fix it so it didn’t appear as if she had been crying. She already missed him, but she knew that she didn’t need her emotions getting in the way of work. And something as simple as missing him could easily be twisted into something else by those who were sure to follow Bill’s beloved girlfriend in the Big Apple.
Adjusting the strap on her shoulder, she confidently stepped out to the pick-up area of the airport, looking for the detective who was supposed to meet her. However, her vision was soon marred by a swarm of paparazzi.
“Riley Bauer!”
“Riley!”
“What’re you doing here in NYC?”
“Did you and Bill break up?”
“GOD NO!” She yelled at the last question, glaring at the photographer who had dared to suggest it. She tried to move and look around, but they continued to swarm around her.
She shrieked as someone grabbed her from behind and yanked her out, telling paparazzi to go find a story elsewhere. Her rescuer took her bags and placed them in the back of a town car, motioning for her to take the front passenger seat. She scrambled in just as the paparazzi rushed after them, slamming and locking the door. She glared at them for a moment before she turned to the person who had saved her from making a scene by pushing them around.
“Thank you so much. These guys are so much worse than the ones in Europe, I think.” She smiled at him and offered her hand. “Detective Riley Bauer, Hamburg PD.”
He smiled and shook her hand. “Detective Don Flack, NYPD. Why are they after a small-time CSI from Germany?”
She licked her lip, knowing this was going to be an interesting trip, to say the least. “You don’t know who I am, do you? Other than a detective, obviously.”
“I’m guessing you’re from America. You have a southern accent. But no, I don’t.” He glanced at her with bright blue eyes as he slowly pulled away from the curb, avoiding the diving paparazzi.
“My boyfriend’s an internationally famous rock star. Even thought I’m not the most interesting person on the planet, other people seem to think so.”
“Oh…great,” he murmured, now knowing why Stella and Lindsay had been smirking when they heard Flack offer to take in the detective, and then hearing Riley’s name being announced as the visitor.
suckish ending, but oh well. >.>

Thirteen.
Riley rolled over and reached out for Bill, only to find a pillow and air on the other side of the pullout couch. She looked over and sighed, remembering that she was thousands of miles from him. Exhausted from the time difference, she sat up and looked around dazedly.
“Bauer, what do ya want for breakfast?” She looked over to see Flack, already dressed in his suit and tie.
“My boyfriend,” she said out of nowhere and flopped onto the pillow beside her.
He laughed. “Unless you have a plane ticket handy, I can’t get him.”
She grumbled something and got out of bed. She grabbed some things from her suitcase and went to get ready.
Flack waited until the bathroom door closed before going to his laptop and reopening it. He had been looking up some of their story; curious as to whom she missed so horribly. She had picked an interesting boyfriend, to say the least, with the large hairstyle and ten times the eyeliner she wore in most pictures. But, if the ‘expert analysis’ on some of the pictures was truthful, they clearly loved each other and didn’t care what other people thought.
“Why are you looking at pictures of Bill and me?” Riley wondered as she checked a button on her blouse.
Flack jumped, startled by her sudden appearance. “It’s not a crime in the US to be curious, detective. Besides, you never told me who he was.”
“You never asked.” She wandered into the small kitchen and began to poke around for something to eat.
“Good point.” He watched as she nearly inhaled her cereal, but also didn’t look like a pig like most people did. “You don’t have to eat so fast, we have plenty of time.”
“I’m used to eating fast. If I don’t, it usually gets snatched the moment I’m not looking. Besides, I’d like to get this case over with.”
“Homesick for Deutschland already?”
“You can’t even begin to imagine.”
---
“Ah, Detective Bauer. Willkommen to the New York Crime Lab,” the FBI agent, Matthew Michelson said, trying to appear professional and slightly flirty, not knowing who she was.
“Thanks. What’s the FBI got to do with our case? I know it’s international, but I thought it was just the two PD’s working together,” she shook his hand curtly, playing with one of Bill’s large rings on her finger, trying to send a message.
He passed it off as anxiety, though could have ignored it because he was surprised by her accent. “You’re American?”
“That doesn’t answer my question, Agent Michelson.” She wasn’t in New York to play games; she was there to catch a killer.
Flack snorted behind her, impressed and amused.
“Rather than the FBI taking over, we’re letting your people and the Crime Lab work together so we don’t waste any time going over things so someone else can take over. I’m just here to supervise.”
“Nice to know.” She breezed into the room where the New York team was waiting, her file in hand.
“Detective Bauer, I’m Detective Mac Taylor. This is Stella Bonasera, Danny Messer, Aiden Burn, and Doctor Sheldon Hawkes. Since everything began in Germany, we’ll let you fill us in.”
“Nice to meet y’all. Okay,” she opened the file and began to pass them some papers. “Well, everything started out as a regular homicide for us. We had a match in the database, and when we went to arrest the guy, he shot at us and took off through a back door before we could get far. One of my colleagues was hurt, but nothing serious. After that, someone who wouldn’t cooperate, for unknown reasons, was killed in his home. Then he went to New York.”
“Where he killed an airport security guard,” Danny finished, looking at one of the reports.
Mac looked up from a shot from a security camera. “This guy’s all over the map with what he’s doing. We need to get inside his head, and we better do it fast, before someone else gets hurt.”

CSI NY is awesome. Mainly for Flack and Danny and Hawkes. <3
Fourteen.
Another killing.
She and Flack were right down the block from where the teenage girl was shot for her cell phone.
Her cell phone.
The names of places where he was sighted, lab report numbers, everything pertaining to the case whizzed around in her head. She barely went a second without thinking about it all.
She had been holding onto the girl, telling her everything would be okay, when she took her final breaths. It shook her to the core, being so close to the killer and not realizing it, and then seeing that girl die because of a mentally unstable man and over a stupid piece of plastic.
It was an understatement to say that she was still jet-lagged, tired, cranky, ticked off, vengeful, and just in an overall bad mood. That’s why she had been snapping at the others whenever one of them would poke their heads in the interrogation room.
She watched a small gnat pass in front of the window, making a few loops in the air before it flittered out of the light. Riley swung her foot around in small circles, barely noticing that it made the table move slightly. After a moment, she pulled her phone out and dialed in a number.
“Hallo!” Bill chirped, oblivious to the recent events.
“Hey, it’s me.”
“How are you?”
“To say that everything’s fine would be a lie. He killed a girl over a cell phone. I was right there with her when she died. I just wish we could catch this guy and stop all this insanity. We’re receiving tips every ten seconds from all over the city. This guy’s just started a bunch of chaos, and we have to sort out what’s what to get to him. And I’m tired as hxll, which isn’t helping.”
“I’m having a time here, too. Tom keeps taking things and being an all-around pain in the ***.”
“Tell him I’ll beat him up when I get back if he keeps messing with you.”
Bill chuckled.
Riley looked over as someone opened the door. It was that annoying FBI agent, no doubt wanting to keep tabs on everyone he could. “Bill, I gotta go. Duty calls. I’ll talk to ya tonight.”
“Ich liebe dich.”
“Ich liebe dich. Auf weidersehen.” She put the phone back in her pocket in and hopped off of the table. “Please tell me we have something solid to run with.”
He closed the door and stepped towards her. Immediately, she tensed and watched every move critically, sensing something.
“You want me.”
“Please. I have a boyfriend that I love. Why would I want you?”
“I don’t know. But you like me. I saw that look in your eye when you first saw me.” He advanced towards her.
“That would be called my ‘you don’t fool me with the professional prick look for one minute’ look. Get over yourself.” She slipped past him and went for the door, but he grabbed her arm forcefully to stop her. “I won’t hesitate to report you. So you better back off or I’ll kick your ***.”
He laughed and tried to pull her to him. Unexpectedly, she grabbed his arm with her free hand and twisted it behind his back, at which he protested loudly. He kicked at her leg, causing her to lose balance and loosen her grip.
A heartbeat later, Riley found herself against the wall, a hand tightly around her neck. She screamed as loud as possible and kicked him swiftly, thankfully having perfect aim.
Within the next few seconds, two cops, Mac, and Danny were running into the room, guns drawn.
“Agent Michelson! Officers, get him outta here!” Mac demanded, keeping his aim on the Fed until they had led him out of the room. “Bauer, what the hxll happened?!”
“He…I…he thought I kept flirting with him…And…” She slowly slipped down the wall to sit on the floor, head in her hands.
“Danny, go get her some help.”
“No! I’m fine. Right now, I’d rather just get some dinner, some ice cream, crash out for the night, and forget about all this.”
---
“He WHAT?!” Bill yelped on speakerphone.
Riley and Flack both flinched, not expecting the reaction. They both nearly dropped their ice cream, but recovered in time.
“I’m coming over there,” he added, his tone giving off the vibe that his mind couldn’t be changed.
“Bill, it’s not necessary. FBI’s Internal Affairs already talked to me, and he’s in a lot of trouble.”
“That’s the understatement of the year,” Don commented, shoveling ice cream into his mouth.
She rolled her eyes. “But in all seriousness, I’m just a little shaken up and have a few red marks. Otherwise, I’m fine.”
Flack’s phone rang and he went off to answer it.
“Ry, please tell me you’re coming home soon.”
She sighed. “I can’t make any promises, you know that.”
Flack came over to her and signaled that something was up, still listening to the person on the other end of the line.
“Bill, we just got a call. I gotta go. Ich liebe dich! Auf weidersehen!”

Fifteen.
Riley and Flack watched and listened carefully from behind the patrol car as Mac tried to talk the man down from the doorway of the store. His hostage, a young male convenience store clerk, barely breathed as the killer kept the gun pressed to his forehead. Anytime they seemed to get somewhere, he suddenly wouldn’t understand and Riley would have to translate whatever the man yelled, which was much harder than it seemed. He would yell to the point where his voice would crack, and it was hard to pick up pronunciations. For every two steps to getting him safely, they seemed to take a step back.
“He’s saying that the first person he shot was someone who had promised him a new job and a new home, but then changed the deal and took all of his money,” she translated into the radio.
“So he’s got nothing left to lose,” Flack thought aloud.
“The worst kind of killer,” she added.
The man suddenly released his hostage and pointed the gun at his own temple. Riley nearly dropped the radio, stunned beyond belief. Then she did possibly the most daring, or stupidest, move she had made thus far. She left the safety of the sidewalk, walked across the street to the store, and walked right up to the man, gun still in her holster. Mac rushed the hostage across the street and demanded answers from Flack.
“What the hxll is she doing?!”
“She’s talking him down,” the tall detective replied matter-of-factly.
“I can see that. What is she doing talking to a killer without her weapon drawn?”
“I don’t know, but I think it’s working.”
Mac turned around to see the man’s gun on the counter and him breaking down in tears. Riley signaled for some SWAT men to come in, and they secured his weapon as two of them led him out. She talked to one of the SWAT men, smiled, and strolled over to the two detectives.
“That was one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen someone do. You could’ve gotten yourself killed!” Mac exclaimed angrily.
“If you count the number of people he’s killed and hurt, or just how many bullets he’s used in general, you’d know that he had used up the entire magazine.” She blinked at him, not thrown by his anger.
Mac stared hard for a moment, counting. “Then that was probably one of the smartest things I’ve ever seen.”
She smiled.
“So, now that the case is closed, how do you want to spend the rest of the day off?” Flack asked. They were both getting out of paperwork and other work, since he was her only way around the city, and she was the one who had to fly to NYC.
She thought for a moment. “I have a friend who I promised I’d visit whenever I came here. And I have an idea to cheer Bill up.”
yes. Sehr short, I know.
But now I really do need Taylor to get on and give me some character stuff.

Sixteen.
There was a loud chorus of barking the second after Riley knocked on the door of the apartment. Flack raised his eyebrows, wondering what he was getting into. A moment later, a blonde head appeared, wrestling back a large, overly happy yellow Lab. After the young college student could get herself between the guests and the dog, she looked up.
“Riley!” She flung her arms around the detective’s neck, now as happy as her dog.
“Hey Taylor. Okay…air…”
“Sorry.” She pulled away. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, I wanted to see my old friend, and the last time we talked, you said you had puppies. I figured I could cheer Bill up with a new pal. Besides, my dogs are attached to me, and his are attached to him, so I think we need a dog that’s ours.”
“Awwwwwww!” Taylor responded, only to be jumped on by her dog.
“And that’s what you get,” Riley retorted, receiving a glare.
She invited them in, where they were greeted by two full-grown yellow Labs, and yipped at by two puppies corralled in the corner. Riley guessed it was so her friend didn’t have a complete madhouse with four hyper dogs running loose.
“So are you dead serious about getting another dog? You two already make enough press with four Dalmatians and Bill’s black Lab.” Taylor wondered as they sat on the couch and were licked by the two dogs.
“Yup, pretty much. Things aren’t like they used to be between us.”
Taylor walked over to the two puppies and picked one up. She then rejoined the two detectives and plopped the little ball of fur on Riley’s lap. One look in those little brown eyes, and Riley knew this was exactly what they needed.
---
Bill ran through the airport, dashing towards the Riley-like figure. She looked over her shoulder for a moment, away from him, and turned back just as he reached her.
“I’ll talk to ya later, Taylor,” she said quietly into her cell, sliding it in her jacket as she stared back at him. After a moment, she smiled and kissed him.
And time seemed to stop around them. After only two days apart, it seemed like ages for them. Everything seemed so much better when they were together.
Then Bill felt something wiggle against his chest. They broke apart to see a golden-yellow fluff-ball in Riley’s arms, looking up at them curiously.
“Bill, meet Echo.”
He pulled the puppy out of her arms and got nose-to-nose with it. Echo simply looked at him and licked his cheek. Riley couldn’t help but laugh.
Okay, Imma go die of happiness now. x]
