View Full Version : TH in Malaysia

Hey all! I’d just like to begin by saying that all views expressed in this review are personal, and may not reflect other concert-goers’ opinions.
So, I just came back from a Tokio Hotel-filled day and it was so fun! I’ll divide the review into two parts: the signing session and the mini-concert itself.
Signing session:
It was scheduled to start at 11.30a.m. I got there at 9.45, and the queue was already building up. A fan told me that she had arrived at the venue at 7.30a.m. Yes, the TH craze in Malaysia/Asia is not to be underestimated. ;)
The signing session went very well, IMO. It was efficient. So efficient, in fact, that despite the crazy long queue, they managed to sign for ALL fans under an hour. The boys were very sweet and in good spirits, smiling and saying hi to everyone. In fact, my friend overheard Bill telling one fan that she was lovely, and my friend, who’s half-German, spoke to them in German and they were so pleased. It was a pleasant session, though quick.
I told Gustav that he rocked on the drums and he gave me a smile and said “Thank you.”
And all you Lightsiders would be pleased to know that Bill is absolutely breathtaking in person. His translucent skin, his elegant bone structure, his warm, lovely eyes. Everything about him was perfect at the signing session. Tom was cute! He said ‘Hi’ really enthusiastically, and his smile, gahhh!!
Mini-concert
All right, I’ll start off with the positive first, all right.
Positive:
The boys were so great and gracious. They seemed so thrilled to be there, and they performed really well. Bill’s voice was so loud and clear, even from the end of the venue (I went to the back after a few songs because the crowd was getting a bit suffocating for my liking), and Gustav just rocked it on the drums. Tom was sweet towards the end. He went from one side of the stage to another and gave fans the thumbs-up and ‘Peace’ sign. AND, the best part was, they came back and did two encore songs for us. I was so so happy. When they said they were singing the last song, my heart literally stopped because they were so good, and I refused to accept the fact that the night was over. Thank all heavens they came back, not once, but twice, to give the fans more. I thought that was nice of them. :)
They did 11 songs altogether (if I remember correctly) and every single one was good, although the crowd really went wild for ‘World Behind My Wall’ and ‘Automatic’, no surprises there. :)
Noise
Human Connect to Human
Pain of Love
World Behind My Wall
Hey You
Ready Set Go
Dogs Unleashed
Automatic
Screamin'
Forever Now
Durch den Monsun
Negative:
The waiting was just terrible. It was disorganized, rowdy, and fans were pushing each other while waiting for the gates to open. The gates opened late, making fans even more agitated, and many were at the point of being pi**ed off. When the gates were opened, the security people didn’t even bother checking tickets and worse, they didn’t bother making the fans file in in an orderly manner. Many just barged right in and it was unfair that fans who had queued for more than 6 hours were relegated to the back because of the more aggressive ones, who weren’t even real, die-hard fans to start with. Many of them just came for the heck of it. Not everyone there was a TH fan, and when the boys were done with ‘Automatic’, a lot of these people left because they weren’t really interested in other songs. And those who stayed basically just hung around and chit-chatted or did other irrelevant things like wrestling one another while the band was performing. It was annoying and disheartening to see. Thankfully the fans in the front made up for it, though. :)
Despite all that, I thought it was a great fist-time show in Malaysia. The crowd responded well to their performances, and the best part is, towards the end of the show, the host for the night, Jin from Hitz.fm, announced that the boys will be back again sometime later this year for something they’re doing with MTV. So Malaysian fans, congratulations and rejoice for their second trip here!

Hey. Sorry but the view was terrible from where I stood. I managed to get a couple of shots but they're pointless, and I was literally drowned in a pool of people twice my size (I'm short. ;) so in the end I gave up and just enjoyed the show.
But here are some awesome pictures posted by others, and also videos. :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences!
It's always heartbreaking to realise that it really is coming to an end when you listen to the last songs. And I'm happy youi had a good time even if some "basic phenomenons" in TH concerts (like pushing, animalistidc behavior to get to the front row etc. ) disturbed it a little. I love to hear how nice people they are... It always warms my heart.
I haven't seen them as close as you did, but I can only imagine how it was with Bill in signing session. He has some kind of enourmous charisma, breathtaking beauty (and I don't mean only classic, outside beauty) which is very rarely seen. I always say that he dazzles. It hit me hard on my concert and even if there was more or less distance, I still saw it. He has something really special in him.

Thank you for sharing your experience!! It made me smile. I love hearing about how sweet and nice the guys are. :-)
Aww, you're welcome. It's always nice to share stories about the boys being nice/sweet. :)

Yea, I honestly didn't want it to end because for weeks I had been looking forward to it and as sad as it might sound, when it was nearing the end it almost felt like the end of something special. Sounds silly, I know. Heh. :) Yep, the boys more than made up for the less-than-beautiful parts of the day (the rowdy fans and non-fans, etc). They were very very good onstage.
And yes, Bill definitely has something enigmatic about him. He has so much charisma and presence. Although I'm now (and will always be) a Tom girl, I couldn't really peel my eyes away from Bill at the signing session and concert yesterday. When he stares at people, it's just intense. And Tom was actually quite shy, LOL. A fan showed him a sign which said "Tom, can you play your solo for me? And marry me after?", he gave a small, shy smile and looked down at his shoes before looking back up and smiling again. It was very cute. I love it that they're well-received in Asia. I'm sure they've won over many, many new fans. 2 of my friends who tagged along are now converts. ;)

Yes, as much as I'm on Tom's side and been there from the day one, I still think Bill deserves all the credits he gets here. He is truly amazing and breathtaking live. The intense and presense you see in pictures? It get hundred times that live. I don't think there is anything why I shouldn't say this, why would there be?
It's still not converting me and never will, because no matter how much charisma and wonderful qualities Bill has, he lacks of something undescibable Tom is having and with that it's everything. I adore shy Tom. He has his bold moments when he flirts quite shamelessly, but when he is surprised off guards, you get those adorable shy little smiles, when he doesn't know where to look and in his smile there is nothing cocky. Just plain adorable little, shy, lopsided smile and it's disarming me then and there everytime. Apparently even after years of being a target for blind and crazy admiring, it still gots him sometimes...
By the way, Sam, do you have any first hand impressions of how successful this visit has been? What, how much, and what kind of attention TH has got in media and most of all, in audience? It looks like media has treated the band very nicely, but how's the public? I'm curious of knowing if this has direct affects on their success there businesswise?

No problem, Mary! :)
Yes, he does have the strongest presence among the boys, although Tom, Georg and Gustav are pretty hard to ignore as well. They're great together. ;)
LOL, yes, Tom is cute when he's all shy, and yes, he is buff!
And are you from Asia? If you are, then they've promised to tour Asia sometime soon, so keep your fingers crossed, all right? ;)

Hey Nikki! I yelled 'Go to the Philippines!' at the concert but I doubt they heard it. I couldn't manage to say it during the signing session. Security was tight as ever.
Yeah I know! When I heard that he told that fan she was lovely, I literally went 'awww'. So sweet of him! Yes, shy Tom is very adorable!
Aww thanks! Please keep your fingers crossed that they'll go to your country when they return to Asia, all right? Maybe you should send the management an e-mail or a petition or something, since they usually go where they hear they have fans. I hope they go to the Philippines for you and the other fans, Nikki. You guys deserve to see them live! :)
Aww thanks for the review. Honestly all this stuff from Asia is starting to make my cheeks hurt from all the smiling

Thank you! I'm still smiling thinking about yesterday, LOL. Yes, the boys have been turning on their charm here in Asia. I'm sure we'll hear more from Taiwan in the next few days.

Yes. Exactly, Hannele! As charismatic as Bill is, I'm still on Team Tom. As much as I've been gushing about Bill, I'm not taking away anything from Tom. He was as sweet and disarming as ever yesterday!
Hmm, I'm not quite sure about the business aspect of their trip to Malaysia. Media-wise, they received considerable attention and exposure, especially from the sponsors. The concert was definitely successful, though. We expected a crowd of maybe 800 but the turnout was about 1800 (close to 2000), from what I've heard and read. I can't say if they made a lot of money out of this, though, since tickets were given out, or obtained either via the purchase of their album at a minimal price or the TM package promotion, so I don't think they made as much money as they would've had if the tickets were sold.
In terms of the public, I think they definitely made a wave. Their trip generated a lot of excitement and exposure. Fans from all over the world travelled to Malaysia just to see them. I met fans from Hong Kong, Singapore, France, Germany and even the Middle East, so I think they definitely won over many new and existing fans. The fact that they've been so nice and gracious in Asia has also won over the media and public, because we like nice, humble stars here in Asia, and the boys have been very sweet so far to everyone here. So overall, I think their visit to Asia has been a very successful one. Yay!
I do hope the next time they're here, the tickets will have to be bought, though. It ensures a concert or show where only fans are there, no rowdy people who are only there to make a scene and hang out with their friends and disrespecting TH and their fans. It's something the management and sponsors should definitely look into.

I'm glad your sister's stand has changed after the concert. It's pretty hard not to be impressed after such an energetic show. The boys really gave their all. :)
Well, don't stop hoping. I'm sure if the boys had their way, they would travel to every nook and cranny in the world as long as there are fans there! All the best! :)

I'm sorry of my bad English. I didn't actually think of money with the business here. I know it was literally impossible to actually make money on this visit, but I was curious if they left so good impression, interest in media and in potential fans that it was useful visit in a long run. Like they can expect maybe increasing album sales and more people to their concerts in a future when they come back. And you answered that too, so thank you :)

Oh, no problem. I myself am bad at interpreting words over the Internet! :geek:
But yeah, I agree. I guess this is true for all promotional tours/visits, where the purpose is mostly about getting attention and promoting the band, rather than to make money. Hopefully the next time they're here, it'll me more profitable. As much as I'd like them to come back because they're nice and want to see the fans, I do think they need to make some money for their hard work and effort as well. So yup, hopefully their next trip here, they'll make some money. :)

If they're gonna do an Asian tour, it wouldn't make sense to leave the Philippines out. And LOL, Tom's godliness! Yes, all fans need to see them live at least once in a lifetime. :)
Oh, that's great! I hope they or their management got the letter. It'll make them even more certain that they're wanted in the Philippines, rather than just basing their potential visit on hearsay. Good luck!! :)

I'm so glad to know they are coming back again!
Thanks!
